“The study of Japanese thought is the study of Indianthought” Dr. D. T. (Daisetz Teitaro) Suzuki (1870-1966)Japanese Buddhist and Zen scholar

During the past 1200 years, Indians have come to Japan fromtime to time. It is said that in the period of Emperor Kotoku (645-654)a seer called Hodo (Dharma-marga or Dharma-patha) came fromRajagarh of India. The first Indian to come to land of rising sun wasBodhisena, a Buddhist monk. He was born of a Brahmin family inIndia. His clan (Gotra) was Bharadvaja. Receiving a mystic inspirationfrom Manjushri Bodhisattva, he went to China and lived in the Wut’ai shan Mountain. At the request of several Japanese who were inChina for diplomcatic negotiations and for study, Bodhisena cameto Japan along with other Buddhist monks from China and Indo-China in 736. He arrived at his destination in 736 AD. He was cordiallyreceived by the Imperial Family, and was appointed Head Priestinformally called as Baramon (Brahman) archibishop.

Mantra Meditation: Members of the Hare Krishnamovement practice mantra meditation. In Sanskrit, manahmeans “mind” and tra means “freeing”. So a mantra is acombination of words that is meant to relieve the mind ofanxieties arising from worldly entanglement. Vedic literaturecompares the mind to a mirror, and our present state ofspiritual forgetfulness to a mirror which has accumulateddust. Mantra meditation clears the dust from the mirror ofthe mind so that we can see our original self.

I believe that everyone enjoyed the beauty of cherry blossoms inthis beautiful land of the rising sun. The spring is about to end and it istime welcome the heat, the summers. Time for transition from wintersto summer.

Talking about recession, things seem to be getting back to theirplace but still a long way to go. While people in our country were busywith general elections, we enjoyed the festivals Ram navami andbasakhi held by Indians in Japan. Then not to forget the White Day,where it was the girls turn to enjoy the chocolates.

Lets see what is in stored for all of us this summer. For the TBT readers, people’s interested in Japanese culturaland Languages can read Hiragana Times

which is truly a unique magazine, in which you can study a language while learning information aboutJapan. Each Japanese paragraph is followed by its English translation, and furigana are placed above eachkanji to make Japanese study even easier. This concept was recognized at the NTT magazine contestwhere Hiragana Times was awarded the Grand Prize twice and the Best Editing Award once on separateoccasions. Furthermore, the articles are often used in English and Japanese examinations by universities, schools and other institutions.

Best wishes and regardsGautam sanjay

Orissa, the eastern state of the Bay of Bengal, has a

rich tradition of classical dance, music, silverware, handicrafts and sculpture. Seven thousand temples once rangedaround the sacred Bindusagar Lake in OldBhubaneswar; about five hundred of them are stillstanding. The great Lingaraja Temple dedicated tothe Lord Shiva is the largest of these, and is the siteof a major Shivartri festival in February-March, onthe night of the new moon. On the coast, south ofBhubaneswar, lies Puri, one of the four holiest Hinducities in India and now also being developed as abeach resort; relax in the refreshing sea afterwondering at the famous 12th century JagannathTemple, the home of Lord Jagannath, the Lord ofthe World, “the Formless God”. The Yamuna Parks UsersAssociation (YPUA) has filed a PILwith the Supreme Court-appointedCEC, seeking a stay on the constructionwhich they allege is posing a hugedanger to the adjacent Okhla BirdSanctuary.

The petition filed on March 5claims that no environment impactassessment (EIA) was carried out forthe project which is in clear violation ofa 2006 ministry of environment andforest notification. The notificationmakes an EIA compulsory for allprojects located within 10km of aprotected area notified under theWildlife (Protection ) Act in this case,Okhla Bird Sanctuary critically pollutedareas notified by the CPCB riverYamuna or interstate boundaries Delhiand UP.

Extreme secrecy surrounds theproject. Though no Noida officials iswilling to talk about it, the project isrumoured to be “grander than theAkshardham temple” being built at acost of around Rs 300 crore. Allconstruction activity is hidden from viewby large tin sheets. Nobody is permittedto enter the premises when TOIattempted to enter the area, securityguards said they have been instructedto allow only those with government-issued identity cards. A worker at thesite claimed that the complex, spread

across 8km from the Noida SP officeto Amity University crossing, willhouse a museum, 11 statues of Daliticons, including one each ofMayawati, Kanshi Ram andAmbedkar, crafted by BSP’sfavourite sculptor Anil Ramsutar.

Residents say work on theproject started in January last yearand Noida officials had told themthat it was only a wall to protectand beautify the parks. “Initially,we thought that only a wall wasbeing built to enclose the parks. Butabout seven months later, two parkswere completely shut off for morningwalkers and massive excavationwork started inside with greatsecrecy and speed. Despiterepeated attempts, and even an RTIpetition, the government is notdivulging any details about theproject even as our parks have beeneaten away,” said Kanan V Jaswal, president of the YPUA.

Work is happening at a freneticpace, round the clock. “There ismassive noise and air pollution dueto the large scale construction.Earlier, we could not see anythinginside but now columns, about 30feet high, have emerged from behindthe tin sheets. Work goes onthrough the night. Since the CEC isyet to hear our PIL due to some

internal issues, we are planning to fileanother petition directly before the SupremeCourt, seeking an immediate stay on thework,” said Anand Arya, an avid birderand resident of Sector 15-A.

Not only is the project coming up on theYamuna riverbed, say residents, it has alsosprung up at the cost of roughly 3,000 trees.“The concretization in such close proximityof the bird sanctuary has already resulted ina fall in population of some importantmigratory birds. The nesting pattern of theIndian Golden Oriole has also been affected. The noise and light pollution caused by theconstruction would be a serious disturbancein their natural habitat,” said Arya.

Despite repeated attempts, nobody fromthe government was ready to comment onthe project. TOI tried getting in touch withNoida CEO Mohinder Singh, senior BSPleader and cabinet minister NasimuddinSiddique and the chief minister’s office inLucknow. However, TOI was told that mostpeople were out on election campaigningand there was nobody to respond toquestions.

The basic principle of everybody is: Be Good - Do Good - BeOne: Be Good means to embody qualities such as non-violenceand love for all being and to weed out weakness and imperfectionssuch as egotism and narrow mindedness. Do Good means that atrue human not only lives for himself but also for others. Be Onemeans to realise the unity of the soul with the God power and thusthe unity of all life and to live accordingly to this highestconsciousness. This practically experienced and lived spirituallyhad been at the onset of all religions and is the origin of all ethicalvalues- a strong foundation of Unity of Mankind.

On His last Punjab-tour in October 1973, Sant Kirpal Singhvisited the agriculture farm located in rural Punjab near Rahon, district Nawanshahar. There was one room made of mud and onepucca-room (room made of bricks) beside a little room for thewater-pump. He stayed there nearly for fifteen minutes and tookwater from the water-pump and a grain of rice. Then He blessedKirpal Sagar which now has been built beside the farm.

Kirpal Sagar located in north India is a common ground for allpeople to get together, irrespective of caste, colour, creed, religionor country. It belongs to all human beings of the world. In KirpalSagar no particular religion but the essence of all religions is taught, which is one and the same and has been written with one opinion. To keep the various outer rituals and rites of the different religionswith their basic signification is no bar to true religion. Every religionteaches the universal link among all human beings - the brotherhoodof men under the fatherhood of God. Religion is a very smoothpattern and a way to realize one’s self, if one rises above theshackles of the religion.

The heart of the project is an oval-shaped Sarovar-Holy Tank(oval shaped pool) surrounded by our corner buildings. The buildingin its centre (Sachkhand Bhawan) bear four symbols for all the

religions - a gurdwara, a temple, a church, and a mosquedemonstrating the basic necessity to understand that God mademan and man made religion. Around the basin four corner-buildingsgive room for the Holy Scriptures and specific attributes of therespective religions. True religion tells all to get together under onecanopy to remember God.

Their shapes refer to the human body. Temples and gurdwarasare dome shaped similar to the head of man and the curvature of themosque corresponds to the shape of the forehead. Churches havetowers wit nose shaped contours and often the ground plan is crossshaped, just as a man with outstretched arms. The symbols showthat all religions are respected here, yet man body is the true templeof God. The connection between man and the Almighty is the baseof the Unity-of-Mankind- the Brotherhood of Man under theFatherhood of God.

The place which Master has chosen for Kirpal Sagar has alsoa background which first was not known. When the constructionwork started, people from the surroundings came and one of themtold that an old person, named Chattar Singh and considered to bemad, had been living there. To that place the cows were taken forgrazing, and he used to sit along with the boys there. He neverwould return to his home, he stayed overnight in the forest, whichwas full of snakes. There was also a certain animal which alwaysattacks man. It is not injurious, but its teeth are very sharp. Onetime, when taking rest, he was bitten by this animal and his nosewas bleeding. Those boys wanted to take him to the doctor nearbyfor dressing the wound, but he said, “No, there is a hospital, I havegot it dressed over there.

“ Sometimes the boys used to say, “Old man, you are smelling, you should take a bath.” He would reply, “Yes, here is a Sarovar,a holy tank, I’m always taking a bath there.” When they offeredhim to share their food, he answered, “No, there is a big common

kitchen here, I always take the food from here.” All the time heused to tell such things, and he even said, “There is a big temple, ahouse of God.” So all people called him a mad person, who isseeing things where other people don’t see anything. Now thosepersons from the neighborhood believe that he was a holy man.Merinews

Kirpal Sagar is neither being built in the memory of the Master, nor is it a personal wish. It was the wish of the Master which isbeing fulfilled by all devoted disciples of the Master. Moreover, who learns and yearns or who wants to learn and yearn can alsowork in Kirpal Sagar, as it is the work of God, done by man butinspired by God. This is the highest and the rarest chance that evercomes in the life of a human being.

Moriya is someone who is a rhythmplayer, slugging it out from the baseline. But I did not allow him to settle,” saidYuki, who rushed after the match totake his Class X exam from the openschool.

“I have been serving well and thattakes a lot of pressure off me. Now Idon’t get flustered even if I am a coupleof points down as I know I can alwaysbank on my serve. I have also tried todevelop my forehand as a weapon. Iam consciously going for my shots ason a hard court you cannot go for longrallies.”

Yuki next plays eighth-seededRohan Gajjar, who rallied to beat

national champion Ranjeeth Virali-Murugesan 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in another pre-quarter-final clash.
