The sanctuary was founded in 1553 AD after the finding of a miraculous statue, an Alabaster Pietà, by a local farmer to whom, apparently, the Virgin Mary appeared curing him of his illness. As a thanking gesture the Madonna asked him to build a little church for who-ever wished to come to praise and pray to her.
53 CASE DI VISO (48 Km from Malé): a typical, high-altitude village near Pez-zo-Ponte di Legno in High Valcamonica, Lombardy, in the Stelvio National Park; worthy for being able to maintain its traditional, old buildings’ architecture.

55 GIRO DEI PASSI (254 Km from Malé): the itinerary includes the Stelvio National Pass encompassing Trentino, Lombardy and South Tyrol. Starting from Val di Sole it passes through the Tonale Pass (1883 m), crosses over the Gavia Pass (2621 m) and then descends towards S. Caterina Valfurva. It continues towards Bormio and from here towards the Stelvio Pass (2758 m) that connects with Val Venosta to reach Meran and then return to Val di Sole hiking over the Palade Pass (1512 m).
56 PANORAMIC ROUTE OF THE BERNINA GLACIERS (92 Km from Malé to Tirano): part of the Unesco World Heritage Sites from 2008, it is a spectacu-lar itinerary to be done partly by car and partly by the renowned Red Train or Bernina Express. Departing from Val di Sole through the Tonale Pass you arrive at Edolo and then through the Aprica Pass reach Tirano in Valtellina, from where the Little Red Train, along a 61 Km railway track, connects with S. Moritz in Switzerland surrounded by unequalled, natural scenery.
