longer exists or can’t be used or repaired彻底的破坏，由“不能或很难修复”的意思，

也指希望、信心、梦想的破灭。damage: to cause physical pain to sb. or

sth. or have a bad effect on them损坏 / 害 ( 身心 ) ，部分尚可修复的破坏ruin: to spoil something completely, so that

it can not be used or enjoyed破坏严重，以致不能修复，强调其使用价值出

了问题 .

Why and when do we use passive?1. We don’t know or don’t need to know

the “doer”. 动作执行者不易指出或不需明说；eg: The thief has been arrested. 2. The “doer” is obvious. 动作执行者不言自明；eg: It is said that a Chinese writer won the

prize.

3. The action is more important than “doer”. 强调动作承受者 ;eg: My house was broken into last night. 4. In scientific reports or in newspaper

articles, passive is more formal在科技类文章或新闻报道中，被动语态更正式。eg: A new vaccination was found to fight the

disease.
