PERFECTION IN STEEL VTKOVICE CYLINDERS a.s.

VTKOVICE CYLINDERS a.s. is a major member of VTKOVICE MACHINERY GROUP comprising more than 60 companies with total sales over 1 billion EUR and employing about 8,500 people all over the world.

VTKOVICE CYLINDERS a.s. is a manufacturer of steel grinding balls with a many years tradition.

The grinding balls have been produced since 1938 when the production process based on press forging technology was initiated. In 1961 the product range was extended by rolled grinding balls. The grinding balls are produced by VTKOVICE CYLINDERS a.s. using world-class equipment achieving high quality.

In 1998 the entire production process was reequipped, heat treatment technology (quenching and tempering) was added and the product range was further extended.

  • GRINDING BALL CLASSIFICATION AND PRODUCTION

The rolled and forged grinding balls are actually offered in the following nominal diameters:

    16, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and 120 mm.

The grinding balls of the diameters above are produced and offered in the following hardness classes:

Hard 59-65 HRC for diameters D16 D50 57-64 HRC for diameters D60 - D70 55-62 HRC for diameters D80 D100 50-60 HRC for diameter D120Medium 42-55 HRC for diameters D16 and moreLow 240-360 HB for diameters D16 and more and approximate chemical composition:

The grinding balls are produced of materials which have undergone a long-term development in the company and are continuously advanced to improve the end-use properties and customer satisfaction. The combination of high-quality wear-resistant steel and high grinding ball hardness ensures very low wear values during grinding. The heat treatment process is described in great detail so that each grinding ball is uniformly through-hardened which enables to achieve the best mechanical properties. The achievement of accurate volume hardness values is a matter of course.

In case of special requirements we can offer production and delivery of the grinding balls in other diameters and made of various material grades provided the quantity conditions are met.

  • INSPECTION OF INPUT MATERIALThe input material for the grinding ball production are round bars which are subject to strict receiving inspection be-fore their entry into the production process. Identication of each bundle is a precondition which must be met in any case.

HEATING OF INPUT MATERIAL The input material is heated in an advanced walking beam furnace which ensures accurate output temperature of the bars. The temperature is one of the most important factors inuencing the nal grinding ball hardness in direct heat treatment from the rolling temperature

ROLLING OF GRINDING BALLSTwo rolling mills for the grinding ball processing are avail-able. Grinding balls of 16, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 50 mm diameters are rolled on the smaller one and grinding balls of 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 mm diameters are rolled on the larger one. Reworking and improvement of the tools ap-plied enables to achieve very high surface quality of the grinding balls processed on the two rolling mills.

  • HEAT TREATMENTThe grinding balls are heat treated in an advanced furnace linked with a high-capacity quenching tank to achieve the required hardness. The heat treatment know-how elabo-rated in detail secures the achievement of high hardness, or accurate hardness range required by the customer.

GRINDING BALL INSPECTIONSpecied number of grinding balls is withdrawn from each production lot during the production process. Each of the withdrawn grinding balls is then subject to thorough meas-urement of surface and volume hardness. Metalographic structure of the material of cut-up grinding balls is also ana-lyzed using etching.

GRINDING BALL PACKINGThe grinding balls are packed as required by the customers. We offer packing in steel barrels on pallets or without pal-lets, in high-volume bags of 1 ton bearing capacity. We also offer grinding balls in bulk. The services provided by the company include the arrangement of grinding ball trans-port by truck, railway wagon or in containers.
