Many patent applications are submitted although their ideas are
already known from very old patents
Direct-injection gasoline engines will also need variable valve timing
Combinations of camshaft positioning and cam switching systems, or
those with continuously variable valve lift characteristics, are possible
The main emphasis in patent applications is on three areas:
