Edmonton City Centre Airport. Like all Airports, the City Centre Airport is a driver of economic activity. That means jobs, livelihoods, and the economic multipliers and taxes that these bring to our city. Even if these j obs could be transferred to the International, (they can't), the City of Edmonton should be promoting jobs here, not in Leduc County. I wish this weren't my number 1 issue, but closing down the Instrument Landing Runway to promote the fantasy of high density residential has taken us to crossroads in the city. This wasn't an issue at all in the last election and no one campaigned last time to close it down. Number two issue, and why? Debt. The current environment of low interest rates has enabled the City to borrow money at an unprecedented rate, and it needs to stop. Once interest rates rise, as they inevitably will, taxpayers are going to be left not just with the big loan, but a huge debt servicing bill. Number three issue, and why? Taxes. Once the debt servicing starts to kick in, and if we continue to chase jobs and industry out of our city, the problem of paying for it all could lead to even higher taxes. Taxes which have been growing above the rate of inflation already. Which should be a higher spending priority for council, LRT construction or road construction, and why? Roads. LRT is a efficient way of moving many people from a few places to a few other places. In total there are currently 6 stops on the LRT South of the river and 9 North of the river. LRT is not a good way of moving goods or services. We need good roads to move all the essential goods, services, and people from the hundreds of thousands of places that they are, to the hundreds of thousands of places that they want to be. City council has turned down a motion to hold a non-binding plebiscite on keeping the City Centre Airport as a general aviation facility. Should the new council reopen the airport issue? Yes. Although, I don't see the airport issue having been closed  Do you live in the ward where you're running? Yes How important is social media to your campaign? 2 out of 5 What is your favourite blog?
