A College Assembly was held at 11:30 am on 26 September 2014 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall with guest speaker Professor Chau Kwai-cheong, Senior College Tutor, United College, Department of Geography and Resource Management, CUHK, speaking on the topic of The Environment Issues of Hong Kong International Airports 3

Runway. Professor Chau is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Environment and Member of the Town Planning Board of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

In the talk about environment issues of Hong Kong International Airports 3rd Runway, among the thirteen issues raised, Professor Chau Kwai-cheong concentrated on the conservation issue of Chinese White Dolphins. Professor Chau explained to the audience that threats to Chinese White Dolphins were mainly habitat loss from coastal development, water pollution, underwater noise pollution, vessel collision and over-fishing. According to the Statutory Environment Impact Assessment Process effective in 1998, the principles for processes should be in the sequence of Avoidance, Minimization and Compensation. Professor Chaus talk was delivered with informative graphs, statistics and pictures, inviting deep thought of students.

At the same Assembly, a signing ceremony of Student Life Charter was held, with signatures by student members of the Task Force on Students Well-being. Signatures by guest witnesses were invited, including Ms Lina H Y Yan (Vice-chairperson of the College Board of Trustees, Chairperson of the College Endowment Fund Committee and President of the College Alumni Association), Professor Stephen H S Wong (Acting College Head), Professor Barley Mak (Associate College Head, Dean of Students and Warden of Adam Schall Residence), Professor Lee Hung-kay (Associate Dean of General Education), Professor Chau Kwai-cheong (Senior College Tutor), Dr Chan Tak-yau (Warden of Bethlehem Hall), Mr Wong On-tung (Warden of Hang Seng Hall), Professor Eunice L Y Tang (Warden of Ping Fan Hall) and Professor Stephen K W Tsui (Chairman of the College Environment Committee).
