Technology in 2023

• Over the years we have seen a wide spread in various technologies, and through these technologies knowledge has expanded.– Three theories' to explain the technology expansion

• Social Information Processing• Social Learning Theory/ Social Cognitive Theory• The Theory of the Long Trail

– Three Communication technologies that have expanded• Computers- How they have changed in schools, and with the three theories• Cellphones- How they have evolved from the beginning and now are in

cars.• Game Consoles- How simple Mario grew to fighting friends in Modern

Warfare.

Social Information Processing

• “Perceptions of media are in part, subjective and socially constructed.”

• Social influence is strongest in ambiguous situations.

• Looking at Social Information Processing, when we are going to buy a computer we check and see what everyone else has and get opinions of others.– Example: Macintosh or Window’s based computer

Computers Back When……….

Here are some pictures of computer from the 80’s and before! The Networking took up

rooms not just areas!

Dos was the old operating system!

Computers Now……….

Looking at the different types of computers that we currently have, most have a laptop or a tablet.

Desk tops are for sure going out, the only thing that might be saving them are companies that use computers!

Applying the social information processing theory to computers now, I might ask friends if they like their tablet or laptop better. We tend to use social information processing on a regular basis.

Future of Computers………..The future of computers has a lot in store for us! Looking at the pictures, we see that tablets will have CD drives, walls will be touch screen computers, and project from our devices will provide touch screen.

Social Learning Theory/ Social Cognitive Theory

• This theory is like the Social Information Processing theory.– Instead of just gathering information from others,

this theory focuses on modeling others.• “Social Learning Theory focuses on how

people learn by modeling others.”– Some ways this happens: symbolic modeling-

which happens by watching the behavior modeled on a television or computer screen.

Phones back then……. The history of the telephone….How did we make it without cell phones?

Thank goodness for cordless phones!After this then came……….

Yes!......Cellphones

The cell phone has been quite an adventure!We have went from bulky phones that had hardly any service to flip phones to touch screens!

Texting has been a huge impact on the people! My grandmother even texts!

Connection….• We have watched people on TV

using cell phones, and for years we never had them!

• Now watch out everyone has them!

• We learned how to use them by mocking the action from people on TV, and even our friends.

• My grandmother learned how to text by watching me, the next thing I knew she was getting a touch screen phone and started texting!

The Future of cell phones

The future for cell phones we won’t even have to hold a device!We can call and see them through glasses!

The Theory of the Long Tail

•“This theory begins with the realization that there are not any huge hit movies, television shows, and albums like there use to be.”•The theory states, “our culture and economy are increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of hits at the headend of the demand curve and toward a huge number of niches on the tail.”

Video games and consoles..

Now!!!!

• You can connect wirelessly with game consoles and play people over the internet!!!

You can play games on your cell phone!!

With the WII and connect you can play games virtually, where the characters move with you move!

Future of Game Systems…

Playing games with friends, and not having to really be there and still have the same interactions!!The Theory of the long Tail applies, because what we have now is way better than what we had then.Technology keeps progressing and changing by the minutes!

Future Ouya?

• Ouya is indicative of an important trend in gaming: appification.– Appification is the process in which everything in a

given vertical moves to, well, apps. • Apps are cheaper than games on discs. Apps offer instant

gratification -- there's no need to drive to GameStop.
