WG2The main aim of WG2 activities is to create a European Framework for
Model Evaluation which will include the development of widely accepted quality assurance procedures throughout Europe for different models (regional, urban and local/hotspot) and for different purposes
according to the requirements of the AQD
(air quality assessment scenario calculations and impact modeling, forecast of exceedances and assessing contribution from natural
sources and winter sanding/salting).

• The research performed in WG2 should be in support of a better definition of the AQD in all those components that are
still not precisely defined or agreed upon
• So far most of the groups have conducted very important literature reviews and assessment of existing work
• There is a strong need to start to address concrete issues, may be few but concrete
• The starting point for all SGs should be the Guidance doc. Therein open issues and research aspects to be tackled in
connection to AQD are clearly stated!

• The SGs cover nicely all aspects connected with grey areas in the AQD:– Refer to the document,– Extract open issues, – Prioritize them, – Define the available resources, – Produce a defined work plan for the next 12 months
• We have to aim at a:– consistent, coordinated and concrete product – readily available to WG1/DG-ENV for implementation
– pre–operational concept, procedure, methodology, indication, guideline, tool that clarifies the grey areas as much as possible.

• Always consider the following questions:
– Are we contributing to specific issues addressed in the Guidance document?
– Have we identified specific grey areas?
– Have we identified the way to proceed to clarify them?
– Are the issues tackled connected in some ways with those of other SGs?
