INTRODUCTION

• We've heard of solar powered cars, now it's time to welcome wind powered vehicles.

• Which has same basic technology – wheel!

turbine!

Some mechanical instruments!

PRINCIPLE

Wind-powered mechanical vehicles primarily use wind turbines installed at a strategic point of the vehicle. The wind power, which is converted into mechanical energy through gears, belts or chains, causes the vehicle to propel forward

GRAPHICAL MECHANISM

Page 9: Wind powered automobile

It will require the

spinning of a fan at

the back in order to

create a whirlwind

effect, with the

resulting force

causing a forward

motion for the

whole vehicle

Magnus effect

VENTO MOBILE

-

A vehicle that can drive against the wind

powered by wind energy only.

University of Stuttgart design and build.

-The Vento mobile.

Won the first prize at the Racing Aeolus.

• Wind turbine transform kinetic energy to electrical energy.

• Electrical energy is stored in a D.C battery pack

• D.C battery pack connected to a controller which is converted to A.C power source .

• A.C power source is connected to powerdiod.

• By the help of power diod make the engine run..

Won 2nd Aeolus race.

SPIRIT OF AMSTERDAM.

It uses wind turbine to capture the wind velocity and uses mechanical power to propel the vehicle against wind.

Capable of driving 6.6 meters / sec. with a10 per sec. wind

On-board computer system

capable of automatically shifting gears in a fraction of second, by this gears are shifted to their most efficient position.

BLACK BIRD

It is an experimental land yacht build to demonstrate that it is possible to travel faster then dead downwind.

It can travel more than twice the speed of circulating air.

2.01 times faster than the wind

In 40mph wind it can go up to 126mph.

Page 16: Wind powered automobile

VENTURI ECLECTIC• Its top surface has a wind turbine.

• The Eclectic has two forward and

two reverse "gears" that are driven

by its electric motor.

That motor then gets electricity

from a pack of Nickel Metal Hydride

(NiMH) batteries.

It can go up to 50 km/h.

• In fully charge only wind energy

can increase its speed up to 15

km/h

ADVANTAGE

• The wind is natural source of energy.

• Generate energy from wind turbine.

• Free, Forever.

• Reusable.

• No green house gases or other pollutants.

• In future wind has an important role to developed a new world.

Page 18: Wind powered automobile

DISADVANTAGE

• The strength of the wind is not constant.

• Wind turbines are noisy.

• Each one can generate the same level of noise as a family

car travelling at 70 mph.
