Florida Southern College Founded by the United Methodist Church in 1883, Florida Southern is the oldest private college in Florida, moving to Lakeland in 1922. Located on the north shore of Lakeland’s scenic Lake Hollingsworth, FSC is home to the world’s largest single-site collection of architecture by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, including the recently refurbished Water Dome. The 100-acre campus also includes a number of other outstanding facilities – George W. Jenkins Field House (for basketball and volleyball), Barnett Field (for softball and soccer), 11 residence halls and several College-owned apartments and houses and the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center, which consists of a state-of-the-art fitness center, recreational facilities, and an NCAA competition-size outdoor swimming pool. The College recently opened the new Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Technology Center, which is staffed 24/7. There are several new academic buildings on campus, including the state-of-the-art Joe K. and Alberta Blanton Nursing Building and the Dr. Marcene H. and Robert E. Christoverson Humanities Building. With Lakeland’s population at more than 94,000, FSC is only about an hour’s drive from the major metropolitan areas of Tampa and Orlando. Well-known attractions like Disney World, Universal Studios, Epcot Center, Sea World, Busch Gardens and some of the world’s most popular beaches are only a short drive from campus. Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers make Lakeland their annual spring training home, and several other big league teams train in the nearby area. Prominent professional sports figures who are FSC alums include professional golfers Lee Janzen and Rocco Mediate and Major League Baseball player Matt Joyce (Tampa Bay Rays).

Founded by the United Methodist Church, Florida Southern College is one of the oldest private colleges in the state, tracing its beginnings to a small seminary in Orlando in 1885. The tie to its founding church has remained constant and is today, a proud part of the College's heritage and a bright beacon for the future. Florida Southern moved to Lakeland in the heart of Florida's citrus belt in 1922 and began the construction of a campus that would eventually become a national landmark. The beautiful 100-acre campus, on the north shore of Lake Hollingsworth, includes the world's largest collection of buildings by master architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Florida Southern’s West Campus, now known throughout the world, actually had its inception in the mind of Dr. Ludd M. Spivey, president of the college from 1925-1957.

In 1935 he conceived the idea of an ultra-modern campus, designed by the world's leading architect. Ground was broken two years later for the first building in the Wright collection, the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. What Frank Lloyd Wright created on the campus is amazing. His original work is still as modern and exciting as the newest buildings still on many architect's drawing boards. It is, perhaps, symbolic that the greatest concentration of his genius should be located at a small, private institution of higher learning. Perhaps he describes it best, "...out of the ground and into the light, a child of the sun...the college of tomorrow."

A grouping of three residence halls, thePublix Commons are close to just abouteverything on the Florida Southerncampus. All three buildings offer suite-style living in which six students each havetheir own rooms and share a living areaand bathroom. The Publix Commons alsois home to Florida Southern’s Greekorganizations.

Florida Southern’s recently renovated Water Dome, designed byFrank Lloyd Wright, made its premiere performance on October25, 2007. The Water Dome features 74 jets powering streams ofwater 45-feet into the air. It took almost 260,000 gallons of waterto fill the basin of the dome and at full power 4,800 gallons arewater are pumped per minute.

All of Florida Southern College’sresidence halls offer wireless accessin the common lobby areas and everyroom offers cable TV and is wired forinternet access. In addition, wirelesshotspots on campus include the RouxLibrary, TûTû’s Cyber Cafe (whichoffers Starbucks products), Wynee’sBistro (our cafeteria), and the Nina B.Hollis Wellness Center and pool area.

As one of the four originalbuildings on the FSC campus,Joseph-Reynolds Hall (“JR”)offers one of the best views oncampus. It sits atop a hilloverlooking Lake Hollingsworth.Community life is big here - thewomen of JR form groups withinthe building as a whole and alsowithin the “wings” and smallerhallways. JR and its companionhall, Spivey, are located in thecenter of campus between EdgeHall and Ordway and serve mainlyas first-year female residencehalls.

Wesley Hall is one of two new twin residence halls at FSC, and opened in the fall of 2008. The second building, Nicholas Hall,opened in the fall of 2009. Each new residence hall includes 115 bedrooms with views of Lake Hollingsworth, meetingrooms, student lounges, kitchens, and study spaces.

Anne B. Kerr, Ph.D. College President Since her appointment as Florida Southern College’s seventeenth president in 2004, Dr. Anne Kerr’s visionary leadership has enhanced the student experience on campus and increased the college’s national prominence. Under her direction, the institution has renewed its

commitment to educate the whole person—academically, socially, spiritually and physically—in order to insure that students leave prepared to make a positive and consequential impact on our world. Early in her tenure, Dr. Kerr oversaw implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan for the College that was designed to enrich all facets of our student-centered culture. Opportunities for active learning and leadership were increased; innovative, engaged, and personalized instruction were prioritized; and the College’s scholar-athlete program became a model for NCAA Division II athletic programs. Recent college improvements include ongoing restoration projects on the Frank Lloyd Wright campus (the Water Dome, Esplanades, and Annie Pfeiffer Chapel) and the construction (Fall 2010) of a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian House for use as a campus Visitor Center, which will be the first Wright design built since 1966. Other new construction includes the two-

building Barnett Residential Complex and the Christoverson Humanities Building (all three designed by world-renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern), the McKay Archives Center, the Blanton Nursing Building, the Rinker Technology Center, and TûTû’s Café (located in the Roux Library). Further improvements include the complete renovation of the student dining facility (Wynee’s Bistro), residence hall and campus-wide technology upgrades, and a campus beautification project featuring dozens of interconnected plazas and gardens. Dr. Kerr graduated from Mercer University and received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Florida State University. Prior to assuming the Presidency at Florida Southern, she served as Vice President for Advancement both at the University of Richmond and at Rollins College. She has held numerous volunteer leadership roles, and currently serves on the boards of SunTrust Bank Mid-Florida, All Saints’ Academy, EarthLinked Technologies, Inc., the Polk Museum of Art, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Presently, she is completing a two-year term as president of the Sunshine State Conference. Dr. Kerr and her husband, Roy, have a sixteen-year-old son, Ed, who plays baseball for All Saints’ Academy. Dr. Roy Kerr is a retired professor of Spanish and a baseball historian, whose recent publications include The Loving of the Game: A Baseball Memoir (2007); Sliding Billy Hamilton: The Life and Times of Baseball’s First Great Leadoff Man (2010), and Roger Connor: Home Run King of Nineteenth-Century Baseball (2011).

Pete Meyer Athletic Director

Now in his third year as Director of Athletics at Florida Southern College, Pete Meyer saw Moccasin teams enjoy considerable success in 2009-10. The men’s golf team captured its 12th NCAA national title and the school’s 27th, while the women’s golf team finished third. Swimmer Jeb Halfacre won the 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA championship, giving FSC its first individual national champion in swimming. NCAA postseason bids went to women’s soccer, golf and tennis and men’s cross country, basketball, golf, tennis and baseball. Both swimming teams and the women’s cross country team had individual NCAA qualifiers. FSC won SSC titles in men’s cross country (their 13th straight), men’s basketball and men’s golf. All of that success combined to give the Moccasins a 23rd-place finish in the 2009-10 Learfield Sports/NACDA Cup standings and their ninth top-25 finish in the program’s history. In Meyer’s first year as AD (2008-09), Moccasin teams produced three SSC championships (men’s cross country, men’s basketball, softball) and a fifth-place national finish in women’s golf. Eleven FSC teams went to NCAA postseason competition. Named to the AD position Feb. 21, 2008, he officially assumed his duties July 1, 2008, when Lois Webb retired. In the fall of 2008, Meyer was given the additional title of Dean of Wellness, putting the operation of the Hollis Wellness Center, as well as the water ski program and campus intramurals under his direction.

Meyer, who has been at Florida Southern since 1998, was the Moccasins’ head baseball coach from 2002 through 2008. He also served as assistant athletics director for Webb from February of 2006 until his AD appointment. As baseball coach, Meyer spent six full seasons as head coach, guiding the Moccasins to their ninth NCAA Division II national title in 2005 with a 51-11 record. His head coaching record at Florida Southern was 257-111-1, while his overall record as a head coach was 296-141-1. Thirty-four Moccasin baseball players were drafted or signed professional contracts during Meyer’s tenure at FSC. Before officially assuming the reigns of head coach, Meyer had served for over three years as Florida Southern's top assistant coach under Chuck Anderson. He also was the program’s recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining the Florida Southern coaching staff, Meyer spent five seasons at Valdosta State, working under legendary head coach Tommy Thomas. Before his stint at Valdosta State, Meyer was head baseball coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he coordinated the start of the school’s Division III program in 1991. His Oglethorpe teams went 39-30 in two seasons (1992-93). He served as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State from 1988-90, while earning his M. Ed. in physical education. A four-year baseball letterman at the College of Wooster in Ohio, Meyer graduated in 1987 with a B.A. in speech communication. Meyer is married to the former Julie Newnum. The couple has three children, 22-year old Ross and 20-year old Mitchell, both of whom are enrolled at FSC, and 19-year old Megan, who attends Trinity University in Texas.

Head Coach Ben Strawbridge During his first four years at Florida Southern College, Ben Strawbridge has helped the Moccasins rise from the bottom of the Sunshine State Conference standings to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009. The quick turn-around has made Florida Southern one of the top women’s soccer programs in the South Region and gives Strawbridge a career record of 44-30-4 entering the 2010 season.

Over half of those 44 wins have come in the last two years when Florida Southern earned its first two trips to the NCAA playoffs since the team began play in 1998. The Moccasins went 14-4-2 in 2008, and followed that up with a 12-8-1 record last year. Those two seasons came on the heels of a 12-7-1 campaign in 2007 that saw Florida Southern narrowly miss another trip to the playoffs, but still gives the team three straight seasons with 12 or more wins. That’s a current streak unmatched by any other team in the SSC, and equaled by only the University of West Florida in the South Region. Florida Southern has also finished as the Sunshine State Conference runner-up each of the last two seasons, after previously never winning a game in the SSC Tournament or finishing higher than fifth in the regular season standings. The Moccasins have gone 13-3 in conference play during that time, with seven different players recognized as All-Sunshine State Conference (a figure topped by only Rollins with eight), six different players selected as the SSC Player-of-the-Week, and eight different players named to the SSC All-Tournament Team. Altogether, a total of 13 individual Moccasins have received some type of conference award in the last two years, a number unequaled in the SSC and a testament to the type of recruiting done by Strawbridge and his staff. Strawbridge arrived at Florida Southern in 2006, and had little time to prepare for his first college head coaching job. Hired on June 14, his first look at the Moccasins came just two months later, and six of his first nine games were against teams that qualified for that year’s NCAA Tournament. Florida Southern finished 6-11 that year, but even with that record, there were signs of things to come. In their first two games under Strawbridge, the Mocs took Peach Belt champion Columbus State to double overtime, and lost another one-goal decision to Armstrong Atlantic State, both of whom advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The following weekend saw Strawbridge earn his first career win with a 2-0 decision over Montevallo on September 1, as well as a 2-1 overtime victory against Alabama-Huntsville. The Mocs continued to improve throughout the season, and went 4-4 over the last eight games. By the time his rookie season ended, Strawbridge and the Moccasins had played seven games against NCAA Tournament teams, the most of any school in the Sunshine State Conference. The Mocs dropped two of those games in double overtime, lost another one in the final seconds, and battled national semi-finalist Tampa evenly for more than 70 minutes. Along the way, there were plenty of highlights for Strawbridge in his first year. The Moccasins set a team scoring record in a 7-1 win over Warner Southern, earned their first ever win over national power Barry, and won three dramatic overtime games against South Region competition.

In year two of the Strawbridge era, the Mocs picked up where they left off in 2006, as their 5-0 start included wins over Armstrong Atlantic State and Montevallo, two teams that went on to earn NCAA Tournament bids. The Mocs almost joined them, and finished the season ranked high enough in the final South Region poll, but were bumped in favor of an automatic qualifier that won the Gulf South Conference Tournament in upset fashion. Altogether, Florida Southern again faced seven teams that did make the NCAA Tournament, beating two and tying another (Nova SE). They also lost double overtime games to Saint Leo and national champion Tampa, and played an even game with 2006 national champion Metro State in Denver for 70 minutes. Games like that meant the Mocs’ record of 12-7-1 came against the most difficult schedule they’d ever faced to that point. In addition to seven games against NCAA qualifiers, the Mocs also faced 11 teams that won 10 or more games, and were the only team in the country to schedule both the 2006 and 2007 national champions. It also helped the Mocs reach their highest regional ranking ever at the time (#4), and receive votes in the national poll for the first time in team history. Not surprisingly, the Moccasins set numerous school records in their second year under Strawbridge. While the wins were the most important of those, they also established new marks for longest winning streak, goals scored, goals per game, total points, shutouts, and fewest shots allowed, and had three players named First Team All-Sunshine State Conference. That was one more than they had in the previous nine years. Most of those records didn’t last long, however, as the Mocs turned right around and broke many of them again in 2008. The impact Strawbridge had was felt all over the field too. Up front, Linda Hoglund set school records with 33 points and 17 assists, and became the first Moccasin to lead the nation in any statistical category (assists per game). The back line saw Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck star as the SSC Defensive Player-of-the-Year in her first season at that position, yet still lead the team in goals scored, and the nation in scoring by a defender. Meanwhile, Erin Hopkins set a school scoring record by a midfielder, first-year starting goalkeeper Sarah Furr set a record for shutouts, and a defense with three converted forwards allowed only 9.6 shots per game. After the season, Clampitt-Holsenbeck was honored as the team’s first Daktroncis All-American, Hoglund and Hopkins were all-region selections, and Strawbridge was voted SSC Coach-of-the-Year. After coming up just short in their quest for an NCAA Tournament bid in 2007, the Moccasins made it in 2008, going 14-4-2 overall and 7-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. That earned the Mocs 2nd place in the SSC regular season standings, their best finish ever. After a 3-2, double-overtime win vs. Tampa in the SSC Tournament semifinals, the Mocs also played in their first SSC Championship Game, tying Saint Leo 1-1, before being edged in penalty kicks. One day later, the Mocs were awarded the #3 seed in the Division II South Region Tournament, where they battled conference rival Florida Tech to a 1-1 draw before the Panthers advanced on penalty kicks. While Florida Southern’s 14 wins were an impressive total, the way they were accomplished was equally so. The regular season schedule featured seven teams that played in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, two additional teams that qualified in 2008, and even a Division I program. At one point, beginning in mid-

September, Florida Southern reeled off 11 straight wins to set a school record for longest winning streak. Seven of those wins came in conference play, including a grueling 5-day stretch where the Mocs beat Nova Southeastern, Saint Leo and Tampa, the league’s top three teams from 2007. After beating Saint Leo on October 19, Florida Southern moved into the NSCAA national rankings for the first time and spent the next three weeks in the poll. They went 3-1-1 during that stretch, which included a pair of wins over defending national champion Tampa. Statistically, the Moccasins finished #12 in the country in scoring, averaging 2.75 goals per game with a school-record 55 goals. They were the only Division II team in the country to go through the entire season without being shut out, and one of only six to score on national runner-up West Florida. Along those lines, Strawbridge saw five of his players in 2008 record at least 20 points, led by midfielder Erin Hopkins (12 goals & 12 assists) and forward Princess Haley (15 goals & five assists). With 36 and 35 points respectively, each of them broke the previous school scoring record and went on to earn First Team All-SSC honors. Along with Linda Hoglund (who set Florida Southern’s career scoring record), the Mocs also had three players named to the NSCAA All-South Region Team, and Hopkins became the first Moccasin ever to be named an NSCAA All-American, as well as an Academic All-American. In 2009, Strawbridge had the task of replacing three of his all-conference performers from the previous season, but he and the Moccasins came up with two new All-SSC players and went on to earn another trip to the NCAA Tournament. It wasn’t easy, as they started 0-2 and dropped their first four regional games to put themselves in a tough position just three weeks into the season. What followed was a remarkable nine-game, 26-day stretch that saw them go 7-1-1, with all of those games against regional opponents. The Mocs ended that run with a resounding 4-1 victory at Saint Leo, a win that vaulted them back into playoff position when a loss might have knocked them out.

At the end of the year, Florida Southern’s 12-8-1 record included a 6-2 mark in conference play and two more wins in the SSC Tournament. That put them in the SSC Championship game for the second year in a row where they lost to 8th-ranked Rollins, 1-0. The championship game against Rollins was one of a school-record seven matches against nationally ranked teams. Earlier in the year the Moccasins beat one of them for the first time ever, a 2-1 overtime win at Franklin Pierce, a program with five national titles to its credit and ranked #9 at the time of the match. The Mocs then added to their list with a 2-0 win over #15 Florida Tech in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament. Though the season ended with a 3-2 loss to North Alabama in the NCAA South Region Tournament, Florida Southern had its third straight 12-win season and set a new school record with eight shutouts. The team’s 1.30 goals against average came against a schedule that featured seven games against the top 14 scoring teams in Division II, another indication of the type of schedule Strawbridge annually conceives. The Moccasins also had three players on the NSCAA All-South Region Team for the second year in a row, giving them a total of eight since 2007. Prior to his arrival at Florida Southern, Strawbridge was the assistant women's soccer coach at Division I Liberty University from 2002-05 under James Price. In his final season with the Flames, he helped Liberty win the 2005 Big South Conference championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Flames were 12-7-2 overall and 5-3 in the Big South, giving them a winning conference record in all four years Strawbridge was an assistant, including 2002 when they were undefeated in league play. Strawbridge also played at Liberty, where he started all 67 games from 1998-2001 as a defender. During that time, he established himself as one of the best players to ever wear a Flames uniform. He was two-time All-South Atlantic Region, and remains the only player in team history to earn First Team All-Big South honors three straight years. His play in 1999 helped Liberty goalkeeper Dean Short set a Big South Conference record with 10 shutouts. After his college career, Strawbridge went on to play two seasons with the Richmond Kickers in the USL A-League. He was also a third round draft pick by the Milwaukee Wave in the 2002 Major Indoor Soccer League draft. While he spent eight years in Lynchburg, Virginia as part of Liberty’s soccer program, Strawbridge began his soccer career in Lakeland, which made his arrival at Florida Southern in 2006 as more of a homecoming. He was a member of three state championship teams at Lakeland Christian in his prep career before signing with Liberty. Strawbridge earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Liberty in 2002, and his master’s in business administration in 2006. He and his wife, Kristy, have two daughters: four-year old, Aslyn, and three-year old Maryn.

Assistant Coach Jason Streets Now in his third year as assistant coach at Florida Southern is Jason Streets, and like head coach Ben Strawbridge, he is a Lakeland native who graduated from both Lakeland Christian High School and Liberty University, where they were college teammates from 1998-2001. While at Liberty, Streets was a First Team All-Big South Conference selection in 1999, when he put together one of the best seasons ever by a member of the Flames. That year he became just the fifth player in school history with a 30-point season when he scored 14 goals and added two assists. His team-leading point total helped Liberty to a school-record 14 wins that season, and a runner-up finish in the Big South Conference Tournament. He was a member of the all-tournament team, helping the Flames defeat Elon and Winthrop before they were out-dueled in penalty kicks by Radford. Two years later as a senior, he notched nine assists to lead the Big South Conference in that category and equal the second most ever recorded by a Liberty player. He scored 27 goals with 11 assists in his

career, finishing with 65 career points to rank 10th in team history. During his time at Liberty, the Flames were 18-8-1 in conference play, won two Big South regular season titles, and finished second in the Big South Tournament three times. In addition to his duties at Florida Southern, Streets is also head coach of the girls’ soccer team at Lakeland Christian, a title he’s held since 2004 when he debuted with a 23-4 record in his rookie season. His six-year record stands at 107-34-13 for a .737 winning percentage, with six appearances in the state playoffs. The Vikings have won the district title five times under Streets and finished as runner-up last year. The Vikings were 16-7-3 and advanced to the region final for the fifth time in six years with Streets as head coach. Streets is not the only member of his family involved in coaching, or to be involved with the Florida Southern soccer program. His brother Grandy is the boys’ coach at Lakeland Christian, and his brother Jonathan played three years at Florida Southern from 2003-05 before also spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the women’s team.

Assistant Coach Renee Heacock A new addition to the Florida Southern coaching staff is former Moccasin player Renee Heacock. A 2010 graduate with a degree in nursing, Heacock was one of three Moccasins to earn NSCAA All-South Region honors last year and was a key component of two Florida Southern teams that reached the NCAA Tournament. Heacock was a 2-year starter for the Mocs after coming to Florida Southern as a junior college transfer in 2008. Most of her 41 games and 40 starts were spent as a defender where she helped the Mocs post a 1.30 goals against average with 15 shutouts over the last two seasons. Eight of those shutouts came in 2009, a new school record as the Mocs allowed just over 11 shots per game while playing seven games against the top 14 scoring teams in Division II. Heacock also scored two goals and had one assist during her senior year, with one of those goals sparking a come-from-behind, 4-1 win at Saint Leo that put Florida Southern back in playoff position for the second year in a row. At the end of the season, Heacock was honored as a member of the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the second year in a row and became the first Florida Southern defender ever named to the All-South Region Team. She was also selected to the Academic All-Region team as well, joining Linda Hoglund (2007) and Erin Hopkins (2008) as the only Moccasins to win both of those awards in the same season. Prior to joining the Moccasins, Heacock played two years for Polk Community College where she helped the Vikings go 20-3-1 her sophomore year and finish sixth at the NJCAA Division I national tournament. She helped PCC goalkeeper Carol Myers earn All-American honors with a 0.41 goals against average, scored two goals and had two assists, and was named to the all-region team. As a freshman at PCC, she was named the team’s most valuable defensive player and also scored eight goals and two assists. Originally from Titusville on Florida’s east coast, Heacock played both soccer and volleyball at Titusville High School. She also played club soccer for Melbourne-Eau Gallie United, and in 2009, played for the Clearwater Galactics-Amazons in the Women’s Premier Soccer League.

Did You Know? Since 2007, six different Sunshine State Conference schools have gone to the NCAA Tournament at least once in women’s soccer. No other Division II conference in the country has sent a greater percentage of its members (two-thirds) to the NCAA Tournament during that span. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has had nine different schools play in the NCAA Tournament since 2007, but has a total of 15 schools in the league. Saint Leo is the only SSC school to make it all three years, while Florida Southern, Florida Tech and Rollins have all made it twice. Nova Southeastern and Tampa have each qualified once since 2007.

Assistant Coach Erin Hopkins Returning to Florida Southern as an assistant coach in 2010 is Erin Hopkins, an All-American midfielder for the Moccasins who graduated in 2009 with a degree in Athletic Training. The native of Winter Haven started every game in her two years at Florida Southern (2007-08) after starting 18 games for the University of Central Florida from 2005-06. In the 12-year history of the Florida Southern women’s soccer program, Hopkins is the only player to earn First Team All-Sunshine State Conference honors twice in her career. She was also a two-time NSCAA All-South Region selection, and in 2008 as a senior, was voted NSCAA Third Team All-American. In addition to those honors, Hopkins was a Second Team Academic All-American in 2008 as well, the first Florida Southern women’s soccer player to ever win that award. She capped her Florida Southern career as the 2009 Pat McFadden Award winner, given annually to the school’s top female student-athlete. Despite playing just two years at Florida Southern, Hopkins graduated fourth on the team’s career scoring list with 54 points, and enters the 2010 season ranked fifth. In 40 games, she totaled 19 goals and 16 assists, and her average of 1.35 points per game is the highest in team history. She’s one of only three Moccasins, who have played at least two years, to average better than a point per game in her career. Though she was a First Team All-SSC selection in both of her seasons at Florida Southern, Hopkins was at her best as a senior when she helped lead the Moccasins to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. That year saw the Mocs go 14-4-2, finish as the SSC runner-up in both the regular season and conference tournament, and set a school record with 55 goals. Hopkins set the school individual scoring record with 36 points, doing it in equal parts with 12 goals and 12 assists. The point total was good for third in the SSC that year, and was Hopkins’ overtime goal against Tampa that sent Florida Southern to its first ever SSC Championship Game. Before her college career began, Hopkins scored 72 goals and had 40 assists for nearby Lake Region High School, where she also played volleyball and tennis, and was a member of the track and field team. She played club soccer for the Lakeland Lazers and the Winter Haven Kicks.

Did You Know? When Jackie Bachteler played club soccer for FSA Soccer Plus, her coach was none other than Tony Dicicco, the former head coach of the United States Women’s National Team. From 1995-99, Dicicco compiled a 103-8-8 record with the U.S. National Team, a winning percentage of .899 that is the best in U.S. soccer history. After guiding the United States to a 3rd-place finish in the 1995 World Cup in Sweden, he led the Americans to the championship in 1999, winning the title on their home soil in Pasadena by defeating China in penalty kicks. The U.S. National Team also won an Olympic gold medal under DiCicco, accomplishing that in 1996 in Atlanta.

Did You Know? With Ashlie Haas a former high school goalkeeper, it’s worth noting there have been two field players in Florida Southern history who have seen time between the posts. The last was Danielle Zirkelbach, who started 63 games in her career, most of them as a midfielder, but two as a goalkeeper. Those two starts came at the end of the regular season in 2003, when starter Kim Fish and backup Casey Mogford were both injured.

Cassie Miller also started in goal for the Moccasins against Thomas (GA) in 2001. After keeping the Night Hawks off the scoreboard for more than 20 minutes, Miller returned to the field where she later snapped a 1-1 tie with the game-winning goal in a 3-1 victory. WHY MOCCASINS? Florida Southern first used the nickname Moccasins in 1926, shortly after the college’s move to Lakeland in 1922. The water moccasin, or cotton‐mouth, was abundant in the nearby lakes and since the moccasin is one of the fiercest of all snakes, the college adopted the moniker for its athletic teams. A male water moccasin can grow up to 1.8 meters (74 inches) in length, and though its venom is considered relatively mild compared to other poisonous snakes, its bite is still extremely painful.

Did You Know? Taylor Greene is the only Moccasin to score two goals in her Florida Southern debut. She also had one assist in that game for a total of five points. It happened in a 6-0 win over Fontbonne on August 29, 2003. The freshman forward came off the bench midway through the first half, and within four minutes had assisted one goal and scored another to give the Mocs a 3-0 halftime lead. While Greene is the only Moccasin with two goals in her debut, Samantha Drove is the only FSC player to have two assists in her first game. She too came into the game as a reserve, entering late in the first half of a 2-0 win at Flagler on August 30, 2000. The freshman defender assisted one goal just before halftime and another one less than 10 minutes into the second half. Drove also helped the Mocs finish off the first shutout in team history and as a senior in 2003, was the first Moccasin defender ever named to the all-conference team.

AMY CLAMPITT‐HOLSENBECK 2007 Daktronics First Team All‐American

In 2007, Amy Clampitt‐Holsenbeck became Florida Southern’s first women’s soccer All‐American as the senior put together perhaps the best all‐around season in school history. Not only was she voted the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player‐of‐the‐Year, she was also the team’s leading goal scorer and finished the season with nine goals and 20 points. Those were the highest totals for any defender in all of NCAA Division II. She helped the Mocs post a 1.18 goals against average, set a school record with seven shutouts and allow just 9.6 shots per game.

ERIN HOPKINS 2008 NSCAA Third Team All‐American

In helping lead Florida Southern to its first ever NCAA Tournament, senior center midfielder Erin Hopkins set the school’s single season scoring record with 36 points. She scored 12 goals with 12 assists, becoming the first player in team history to reach double figures in both those categories in the same season. She was also the first Moccasin to be named First Team All‐SSC in back‐to‐back seasons. Hopkins was also an outstanding student at Florida Southern, and her list of 2008 awards included Second Team Academic All‐American. She was the first player in the program’s history to achieve that honor.

Lacy Emmerling was a four-year starter for the Moccasins and a two-time MVP. She finished her career with 584 saves to rank sixth in NCAA Division II history and first inSSC history. Emmerling also set a league record with 156 saves as a freshman in1999. Eckerd’s Cory Hawkins broke that record in 2007, with 183.

Did You Know? Only one time has Florida Southern been involved in a game where each team scored at least four goals. It happened in 1999, when the Moccasins defeated Rollins at Barnett Field, 5-4. The teams combined for five goals in the final 17 minutes alone, with the Tars scoring twice in the final six minutes to cut the gap to one. Liane Muise had two goals and one assist for Florida Southern, while Alicia Milyak had a hat trick for Rollins in the loss. One year later, Rollins took things even further with a 9-7 loss to Tampa.

Despite playing only one year betweenthe posts, her seven shutouts still rank second on theteam’s career list.

Linda Hoglund led the nation inassists per game in 2007, when sheset the school record with 17. Shealso holds the career assist record,and graduated as the Mocs’ all-time scoring leader with 78 points.

Did You Know? Nicole Brant is the only field player to play every minute of every game in a season. She did so as both a junior (2003) and senior (2004) while starting in the center of Florida Southern’s defensive line. That stretch covered a total of 34 games.

Fastest Goal at the Start of a Match ..................................... 9/30/09 In last year’s 5‐0 win over Flagler, Princess Haley became the first player in team history to score a goal in the first minute of the game. It came just 40 seconds after the opening kickoff, and though it had never happened before then, it nearly happened a second time in the same game. Just 28 seconds later, Renee Heacock scored again for the Moccasins for the second fastest goal in team history. The Mocs then added a third goal when Ashlie Haas gave them a 3‐0 lead only 3:24 into the game. The only other time Florida Southern has scored a goal in the first two minutes of a game was in a 6‐0 win over Thomas in 2007. Erin Hopkins scored that one at the 1:28 mark. Defensively, Florida Southern has allowed a first‐minute goal on two occasions, most recently in 2004, when Rollins scored 27 seconds into the game en route to a 3‐0 win. The first time it happened was even faster, as Tampa’s Stephanie Keating needed just 14 seconds to score in 1999.

By scoring just 28 seconds apart, they broke the previous record of 34 seconds set in 1998 by Noreen Drenthe and Valerie Krajcsik in a 4‐1 win over Embry‐Riddle. Shortest Time Between Goals by the Same Player ................ 10/4/06 Though she would later go on to be the 2007 SSC Defensive Player‐of‐the‐Year, Amy Clampitt‐Holsenbeck first put her name in the Florida Southern record book for something she did on offense. One year earlier, in a 7‐1 win over Warner Southern, she became the first player to score two goals in less than a minute; those goals came 41 seconds apart and sent her on the way to the first of her two career hat tricks. Since then, one other player has managed to score two goals in less than a minute’s time. Liz Gorman joined her in that category by scoring 55 seconds apart in a 4‐2 victory at Lynn in 2008. She too went on to score a third goal later in the game.

Did You Know? Prior to last year, Florida Southern had never defeated a nationally ranked team, but in 2009, the Moccasins did it twice. Their first such win came in Rindge, New Hampshire when they beat #9 Franklin Pierce, 2-1 in overtime. Then, on November 6, in the semifinals of the SSC Tournament, the Mocs defeated #15 Florida Tech, 2-0. Franklin Pierce and Florida Tech were also two of the seven schools Florida Southern played in the regular season which qualified for last year’s NCAA Tournament. The others were Armstrong Atlantic State, Massachusetts-Lowell, West Florida, Saint Leo and Rollins.

THE SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE

Founded in 1975, the Sunshine State Conference has risen from a single sport organization to the Division II “Conference of Champions”. Since its inception, the conference has grown steadily in sports played, membership and national prominence. Sunshine State Conference member schools have won recent NCAA national titles (71 total) in baseball, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s

soccer, and women’s volleyball. The SSC is also nationally recognized in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s rowing and women’s basketball. The SSC sponsors championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, softball and women’s rowing. Last year saw three SSC school wins national titles, including the Florida Southern men’s golf team. SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE HALL-OF-FAME

Lisa Ball, a 3-time First Team All-American in women’s golf who played on three national championship teams, and Wayne Raath, a 4-time All-American who also played on three national championship teams with the men’s program, were inducted into the SSC Hall of Fame in 2009, the league’s most recent Hall of Fame class. That brings the number of inductees from Florida Southern College to 41. Nine Moccasin representatives were inducted into the inaugural class in 1991-92, and FSC has had at least one inductee in 15 of the 18 classes since the Hall’s inception. Of the 41 inductees, 27 have been student-athletes, while 10 have come from the coaching ranks, and four from administrative and staff positions.

SIDES OF THE MAYOR’S CUP

The Mayor's Cup recognizes competition in six sports for men (soccer, cross country, basketball, golf, tennis and baseball), and eight sports for women (soccer, cross country, basketball, golf, tennis volleyball, softball and rowing). Points in each sport are awarded by the number of schools sponsoring teams in the respective sports. Last year saw Florida Southern finish second to Rollins College on both the men’s side and the women’s side. The Mocs were three points behind the Tars in the men’s race, and two points behind in the women’s. Florida Southern has won the men’s division 11 times and the women's division 10 times, more than any other school in both divisions.

DIRECTIONS TO FSC From Orlando… I-4 West to exit 33. Turn left off exit, and turn right at second stoplight. Continue to major intersection at Memorial Blvd and turn left. Go 1/2 mile to Ingraham Avenue and turn right. Go to McDonald and turn right. Parking lot is on the left, just past Barnett Field. From Orlando Airport… Take 417 South (toll road) to I-4 West and follow directions above. From Tampa/St. Petersburg… Follow I-4 East to Exit 27 (570E, Polk Parkway exit). Go approximately 6.1 miles to Exit 7 (South Florida Avenue - toll: 50 cents). Turn left onto 37N (South Florida Avenue) and go to McDonald Street. Turn right on McDonald and go seven blocks to the campus. Barnett Field is the by the second parking lot on the right. From Palm Beach/Miami… Take Florida Turnpike north to Yeehaw Junction (Highway 60). Take Highway 60 to 98 North in Bartow, and 98 North into Lakeland. Watch for the Grove Park Shopping Plaza (on the left) and turn left at Crystal Lake Drive. Go to Lake Hollingsworth Drive, turn right and go around the lake to Ingraham Avenue. Turn right again, and go to stop sign (McDonald) and turn left. Parking lot will be on the left, just past Barnett Field.

BARNETT FIELD, HOME OF THE MOCCASINS

The Moccasins play all of their home games at Barnett Field, on the campus of Florida Southern College. The field is located

behind Jenkins Field House, home of the Moccasin volleyball and basketball teams, on the corner of Ingraham Avenue and

McDonald Street. Bleacher seating is available on one side of the pitch for approximately 500 fans.

Barnett Field is the only home the Moccasins have ever known since men’s soccer was first played as an intercollegiate

sport in 1957. Originally known as Pipkin Field, it was re-christened Barnett Field in 1990, in honor of longtime Florida Southern

booster Hoyt Barnett. Lights were installed (nine polls at the cost of $100,000) in October of 1989, and the Moccasin men’s team played its first

night game at Barnett Field in a 5-1, exhibition victory over Polk Community College in 1990. The first regular season night game

was on September 8 of that year, a 2-0 loss to Flagler. The first intercollegiate soccer game at Pipkin/Barnett Field was on October 26, 1957, when the Mocs lost to Rollins College,

3-1. The women’s first game at Barnett Field was September 1, 1998 (the first game in the program’s history) and was a 5-2 loss to

Tampa; the game was played in a steady rain throughout the night. Florida Southern eventually earned its first home win on September 17, 1998, defeating Embry-Riddle 4-1. In 11 years, the women’s soccer team has a 54-52-3 record on its home field.
