    Mathemateg / Mathematics

Dependent on the learner’s maths group within the class, we aim to cover a range of mathematical skills, problem solving tasks and cross curricular based activities which will be incorporated into the following strands.

    • Developing numerical reasoning

    • Using number skills

    • Using measuring skills

    • Using geometry skills

    • Using algebra skills

    • Using data skills Gwyddoniaeth / Science

    • How Do Things Work? – Light Learners will discuss what they already know about light, how it is generated, how it travels and how it can be used. By using their prior knowledge and asking relevant questions they will be investigating how we see things. They will explore the purposes and uses of a periscope before constructing a simple copy in order to use during an investigation.

    • How Do Things Work? - Gravity and Air Resistance Learners will discuss where forces exist around them and the different kinds of forces found on Earth. They will investigate and compare the effects of gravity and air resistance, and how these forces can affect movement and speed. •

    Cymraeg / Welsh

Learners will read a series of short novels as a class, including ‘Harri ac Otis’, which discusses a series of issues which involve making decisions and friendships. The majority of the teaching will stem from these novels, but the main focus of the lessons will be to develop the pupils oracy skills based upon the following themes:

    • Adolygu Geirfa Cyffredin / Revising Common Vocabulary • Fi fy hun / Myself • Hobiau ac Amser Hamdden / Hobbies and Leisure Time • Mynegi hoffter ac opiniwn / Expressing an opinion • Cyfarwyddiadau / Directions and Instructions • Arwyr / Heroes • Trefnu digwyddiad / Organising an event •

  • Celf a Chreft / Art & Design

    ‘Landscapes and Castles’

Learners will compare the work of well known landscape artist such as Kyffin Williams, Peter Prendergrast & Graham Meredith. They will experiment with different techniques e.g. mono-printing, before choosing an appropriate medium e.g. charcoal, ink, water colour & sketching pencils to create their own artwork.

Please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s Class teacher if you would like to discuss anything in relation to your child at Ysgol Deganwy.

    Cerddoriaeth / Music

Learners will be given the opportunity to develop musical skills through listening, composing and appraising. This unit of work will be based on well known Folk Songs / Caneuon Gwerin. Learners will use different musical elements, taken from a traditional Congolese folk song, to compose their own rhythmic and melodic composition. They will perform, record and evaluate their work.

    Dylunio a Thechnoleg / D & T

‘Hats and Headwear’ Learners will research different types of hats & headwear available on the market today before discussing what makes a good design for this type of clothing? They will study the use of hats & headwear in everyday life & the way in which they are used as a fashion accessory and as protection, before designing and making their own.

Addysg Gorfforol / Physical Education ‘Gymnastics’

Learners will create and develop their own individual / group routine in order to answer a given brief, before performing and evaluating their own and each others work.
