Bangladesh Astronomical Society

Since its inception, Bangladesh Astronomical Society has been playing an important role in popularizing the subject of Astronomy and Space Science among the people of

Bangladesh and the success achieved so far is quite spectacular. The Society has arranged lots of Seminars, Meetings on different topics and occasions of Astronomy including Sky Observation camps to lure the people looking their eyes towards the

sky.The Halley‟s Comet Observation Programme during its apparition in 1985-86, Astronomy Education Programme in 1987, Total Solar Eclipse Observation Programme in October,1995, Leonid Shower Observation Programme in November, 1999 were a few examples in which thousands of Astronomy enthusiasts had participated to enjoy

those celestial spectacles. In fact, these programmes were extremely effective for inculcation of knowledge of Astronomy among our people. During the time of Total Solar Eclipse Observation Program on October 24, 1995, in south plaza of the National

Parliament building, Dhaka, about 30,000 Astronomy enthusiasts converged into the observation spot and police had to take drastic action to disperse the mob and to save the lives of the organizers from their hands. It is an example how crazy the people of

Bangladesh have become to demonstrate their interest towards Astronomy. Presently, articles on Astronomy and Space Science get major coverages in every Newspaper and Magazine in Bangladesh apparently a section of readers want to read these articles to

satiate their zeal. One of the spectacular achievements of the Society was the establishment of a major Planetarium in Dhaka. Since 1986, the Bangladesh Astronomical Society had been persuading to the Government for establishment of this

project which eventually got approval and funding in 1996 and construction started in 200.The US.$.22 million gigantic Planetarium Project, the costliest of its kind in southeast Asia, is expected to be commissioned at end of 2003.

With a view to creating interest in Astronomy and Space Science among the people of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Astronomical Society was founded by a group of

Astronomy enthusiasts in their meeting held on November 12,1984 in the office of Bangladesh Institute of Distance Education, Dhanmundi, Dhaka and an Adhoc Committee was formed with the following persons present in that meeting:

Oil And Gas Exploitation

To date, petroleum resources of Jordan have not been adequately tested. There are numerous oil and gas shows throughout Jordan, even in wells that are not located on

valid structures, and there is an abundance of surface indications of hydrocarbons in the form of seeps , asphalt impregnation's, and near surface deposits of rich oil shales. Oil was discovered in, and was produced from, Cretaceous reservoirs In the Hamzeh oil field and the Azraq basin. Currently, in 2008, it is yielding up to 25 barrels per day. Gas

also was discovered in and is produced from Ordovician sandstone reservoirs in the Risha area, with a cumulative production of 138 bcf by the end of the year 2005 .

Syrian Amateur Astronomers Association

About us

Syrian Amateur Astronomers Association (SAAA) is a scientific Syrian association whose activities extend over the whole land of Syria. The Association was announced

officially on 31/8/2005, and it strives to familiarize people in Syria and Arabic countries with astronomy in all possible ways.

In these few pages on the left column you may find answers to the most common

questions about Syrian Amateur Astronomers Association. Theses pages are intended to give clear information about the association for non-Arabic speakers who live in Syria and would like to participate in our activities, as well as those in other

countries who would like to know more about us or contact the association. We strongly apologize for not presenting the whole site in English, as most of the information is found on other English-speaking websites.

If you have any questions or inquiries please do not hesitate to contact us by one of the

following ways:

Activities

Activities of Syrian Amateur Astronomers Association vary greatly and include lectures, movie shows, publications, observations, and conferences. We give below a brief idea

about all these activities except observations, which are presented on a separate page.

Lectures

The scientific activity of the association depends on presenting various lectures in the

field of astronomy and related sciences. The association organizes a program composed of about 40 lectures a year presented between September and June every Tuesday. The lectures are usually presented in Arabic language by members of the

association or other Syrian or Arabic experts. Attendance is usually opened to public.

The archive of the association contains tens of documentaries and science fiction movies related more or less to astronomy. The association presents from time to time one of these movies in a well-equipped hall and holds a related discussion after the

show. Movies are usually in English with Arabic subtitles, but some documentaries are in Arabic language. Attendance is usually opened to public.

Publications

Since November 2006 the association has been releasing a monthly leaflet in Arabic language. The leaflet is composed of eight pages and it contains various astronomical information concerned with the solar system, events of the month, activities of the

association, and other historical and scientific articles. About 3000 copies of the leaflet are distributed every month free of charge.

With the beginning of 2008 the association has also launched its weekly newsletter which is send to subscribers by e-mail. The newsletter is written in Arabic language and

contains detailed information about the activities of the association during the coming week, all new updates added to the website, hot topics in the forum, important astronomy events of the week plus necessary maps, the latest astronomy news, and

the schedule of TV astronomy programs on various Arabic-speaking channels.

Conferences

The association tries to participate in all astronomy conferences in the Arabic world

through its most active administrators and members. We also participated in some international meetings such as the 2007 International Workshop in Japan. The participation usually takes the form of presenting some lectures about our latest

activities or about a hot scientific topic. We have also organized some astronomy conferences and meetings in Syria, and we have also welcomed some international organizations such as the Hipparchus Astronomical Society from Italy

The Turkish Biochemical Society

Mission and Vision

The vision and mission of our society is to unite all biochemists and molecular biologists under the same umbrella and to further biochemistry in our country. Over the years TBS

has flourished to become one of the leading national societies in Turkey, with more than 1200 members and official branches in three major cities: Istanbul, Izmir and Adana. Our society also accepts non-residental scientists living in other countries as members

as long as they are Turkish citizens.

The aim of TBS is to promote the advancement of biochemistry education in relavent educational institutions and hospitals by organizing workshops, seminars and courses

on both undergraduate and graduate levels; Four of such workshops were performed together with IUBMB Educational Committee between 1989 - 2000.

History

The Turkish Biochemical Society (TBS) was founded in 1975 in Ankara.

TBS is a member of FEBS (Federation of European Biochemical Societies) and IUBMB (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) since 1977, more recent memberships of our society include IFCCLM (International Federation of Clinical

Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1997), FESCC (Federation of European Societies for Clinical Chemists, 1997) and BCLF (Balkan Clinical Laboratory Federation, 1998). TBS organised 31st FEBS Congress in Istanbul-Turkey on 24-29 June, 2006.

Additionally, TBS will be hosting the 15th Congress of BCLF (Balkan Clinical Laboratories Federation) under the Auspices of IFCCLM, in Antalya on 3-7 September, 2007.

Key Offers

TBS supports its members by providing financial grants, fellowships and awards; forming local and international collaborations for scientific research; organising national and international scientific congresses and meetings and promoting publications. The

Turkish Biochemical Journal, published by TBS since 1976 on a quarterly basis, covers research and review articles on all aspects of biochemistry and related fields and indexed in Chemical Abstract since 1979, in addition to Index Copernicus and Directory

of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and Turkish Medical Index and is published on - line since 2002.

Membership

As some of our members are clinical biochemist, we also organise meetings and

informative workshops on clinical laboratory standardization, internal - external quality assurance and accreditation; eight such meetings between 1987 – 2004 were organised. Additionally, we also deliver assistance and cooperation on health issues to

the concerned govermental and non-govermental institutions. TBS also established a working group on the correct usage of biochemical terms in Turkish.

Turkish Ceramic Association

TURKISH CERAMIC ASSOCIATION > FOUNDATION

The Story of the Foundation of Turkish Ceramic Association

We see that ceramic lost its appeal and in fact, was forgotten before the Republic period

on our soils where very valuable ceramic works have been produced through centuries by numerous cultures. Together with the campaign of industrialization launched in 1950, ceramic also became popular; reaching its current level, noting significant progress in a

very short time.

Today, ceramic has become an important product our society is using intensively with appreciation for various purposes; both artistic and industrial. During this period, our academic institutions, industry and society have developed ceramicists in thousands. A

major portion of these ceramicists have made ceramics their professions, creating this day of the ceramic industry of our country and Turkish ceramic art. The ceramicists, becoming such a big professional group, have desired to come together in an

association or union at times and various futile attempts have been made.

With this desire and view, this point was re-discussed together with Mr. Basri SEZER at Ceramic and Refractory Manufacturers meetings and the foundation of the association

targeting to bring all ceramicists in a broad based manner was planned for early 1989. As intense wishes and support were received from people thought of as founding members to represent various branches like art, education and industry, the by-laws

were prepared and the first official application was made to the required authorities on 27.12.1989.

With the completion and follow-up of the necessary bureaucratic procedures in line with

the Act of Associations, the official licence was received for the establishment of our Association on 21.03.1990. In the first General Meeting, together with the founding members, the Board of Directors, other bodies and sub-divisions were formed as

required by the by-laws on 03.05.1990.

Our association, targeting to bring together the ceramic artists, academicians providing ceramic education and all ceramicists serving in the ceramic industry and production in all bodies including founding members has started from a point where formation of a

very broad based force and solidarity, and the following points were targeted.

1. Advancement of the subject of ceramics in our country and enhancement of its effectiveness.

2. For the purpose of establishment of communication between ceramicists and informing the members speedily of domestic and international developments, organization of conventions, seminar, conferences, panels, exhibitions and similar meetings with;

o Scientific o Technical o Artistic

o Economic o Social

90

o purposes. 3. Preparation of professional publications, bulletins, magazines and announcements. 4. Determination of the problems and needs of members in the field of ceramics, seeking

solutions and if necessary, taking initiatives before applicable agencies and organizations.

5. Informing our members of ceramic related activities domestically and internationally,

aiding them in their participations and achieving of necessary organization and coordination.

6. Public relations activities which can announce the achievements of our members and

developments in the field of ceramics in our country, domestically and internationally, to society.

7. Mediation on the subject of meeting the workplace and staff requirements between

members and ceramic manufacturers and the industry. 8. Establishment of collaboration with institutions providing education in the field of

ceramics and supporting education's becoming beneficial to ceramic institutions.

Introducing ceramic materials and ceramic art to society, achieving enhanced sympathy

towards ceramics.

The Turkish Mathematical Society

Home

The Turkish Mathematical Society was founded in 1948 and, until 1995 was the only institution professionally representing and bringing together mathematicians in Turkey. It

has 818 members from all over the country. Turkish Mathematical Society has been a full member of the International Mathematical Union since 1960. Also, Turkish Mathematical Society has been a member of European Mathematical Society since

2008. The Society is located in Istanbul and has also a branch in Ankara.

The main objective of the Turkish Mathematical Society is to sustain the advancement and nationwide augmentation of mathematics, mathematical sciences and related

disciplines. To reach our goal we advocate the effectiveness of mathematics in sociological, economical and technological context, as well as its vocational significance. In addition, we support research and scholarships, promote mathematics

education and the exposition of mathematics at all levels thru appropriate venues.

The Society provides nationwide resources and activities that foster professional growth and cooperation among researchers, academicians, teachers and students. To this end, TMD organizes annual national symposiums in different regions of the country. So far,

20 symposia have been organized at fifteen Turkish universities. Each year, hundreds of academicians attend these symposia to collaborate over research and benefit from lectures presented by researchers who are selectively invited by a scientific advisory

committee. Thru the organization of special sessions, young researchers are given the opportunity to present their theses, and thus, a professional platform for discussing their ideas is provided.

Annual Algebra Workshops and Summer School fostering graduate students are conducted regularly and, in addition to facilitating research, give novice researchers the chance to interact with and learn from expert researchers. In addition, TMD offers three

fellowships per year, supporting three math undergraduates who are selected by a fellowship committee upon application.

We influence institutional and public policy through the emphasis of the need for the

application of mathematics within other fields. Moreover, we promote a general understanding and appreciation of mathematics. We offer monthly seminars appealing to a general audience, to the benefit of educators and students.

TMD publishes a quarterly mathematical magazine, „World of Mathematics‟, capturing

public interest, and selling over 10,000 copies per issue. The magazine is designed to encourage students of all ages to pursue activities and careers in the mathematical sciences. Successive issues are dedicated to specific subjects covering contemporary

advancements in mathematics.
