Slow motion writing

1. 1. I see the tires of the car rolling through the stop sign,

4. 4. I see the right-hand corner of the hood crumple up like tin foil,

5. 5. I see the red paint flake off and drift off into the air,

5. 5. I can see all of that, like it's happening in slow motion. In my memory, that experience takes ten seconds.

2. 2. Letting the ball bounce on the floor once more, I gathered my thoughts.

3. 3. This was the moment.

4. 4. My right arm extended as I released the ball with a gentle flick,

5. 5. it rotated slightly as it arched toward the rim.

6. 6. I held my breath.

7. 7. The ball nudged the back rim, falling through the net with a gentle, satisfying swish.

8. 8. And the crowd exploded from their seats.
