Joseph Godges DPT, MA, OCSAdjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Physical TherapyUniversity of Southern California Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy

Dr. Joseph Godges is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Southern California Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy, where his primary focus is to support clinical residency and fellowship programs and the professional development of clinical instructors through high-quality education. He also serves as the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) practice guidelines coordinator for the Orthopaedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. Before joining the University of Southern California, Dr. Godges served as coordinator of the physical therapy clinical residency and fellowship programs for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California.

Terrence McGee, PT, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPTOrthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Director, Clinical Resource AnalystJohns Hopkins Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

Dr. Terrence McGee is director and lead mentor of the Johns Hopkins Hospital and George Washington University Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program, as well as director of the Spine Rehabilitation Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins. His primary clinical focus is on orthopaedic rehabilitation of the spine, including mechanical neck and low back pain, as well as evaluation and treatment of hips, knees, shoulders, feet and ankles. In addition to patient care and his responsibilities overseeing the residency program, Dr. McGee holds an academic appointment with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Course Objectives1. Improve proficiency with the application of manual examination and treatment procedures.

Approximately 80 percent of class time is devoted to lab demonstration and practice sessions.

2. Improve clinical reasoning within the context of Description of Specialty Practice: Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, both published by the American Physical Therapy Association.

3. Improve knowledge in the Description of Specialty Practice content areas, providing a framework to assist in studying for the orthopedic certified specialist (OCS) test.

4. Integrate basic principles of psychotherapy into physical therapy clinical practice, enabling participants in this course to improve their effectiveness with physical therapy management of patients who have mental disorders co-existing with their physical disorders.
