Pahimis Coffee Festival of Amadeo

PAHIMIS is the Amadeo word for thanksgiving. In the olden times, as a sign of thanksgiving the coffee farmer gave away his

last can of harvest, believing that by doing so, luck and abundance will come on the next

harvest season.

In keeping with this tradition of thanksgiving, Pahimis is now a coffee festival

named after this cultural practice, held annually in Amadeo, Cavite.

Iskong Bantay Watchtower

Iskong Bantay Watchtower was built sometime in 1752. It has a good view of Lamon Bay and the

island of Alabat. The tower served as an observation and defense tower during the times when pirate raids were rampant in the southern

parts of Luzon. The tower also served as a weather observatory, which determines if the fishermen of the town could do their jobs or

not.

The watchtower was named after Francisco Tandas, fondly called Isko by the townsfolks. He

was the chief defender of the town during the vicious pirate raid of 1872.

Boling Boling Festival

It is an age-old practice particular to Catanauanins, which is celebrated

annually. Participants roam around the town garbed in any costume they may

fancy. Most of them wear colorful clown-like clothes while others imitate anybody

whom they want, be it somebody they idolize or somebody they despise, and

make fun of them. Boling-Boling comes from the Visayan word “ Boling “ which

means dirt. The festival reminds us of the vulnerability of a man and serves as

symbolic spiritual cleansing and signals the start of the Lenten season.

Hambujan Festival

Since the early times, Sitio Hambujan was an eminent bathing place now called Sta. Lucia.

Hambujan to most is just getting wet or throwing water to each other. But to the

deepest essence of the word, it is the ceremony of acceptance of guests from other places who come to present themselves with gift of friendship and the proposal of unity. It

has now become the gateway to the strengthening of our brotherhood as a nation

through our tradition. And to this effect a Hambujan Festival was organized and being

held annually in the month of April
