Why Give a Speech?

The speech contest is a kind of forced

way to work on the speaking aspect of

learning English.

英語演講比賽是一種鍛練英語口說能力的方式。



Why Give a Speech?

It’s important to learn how to formulate

ideas and then communicate those

ideas – it’s a skill that lasts a lifetime.

學習將想法系統化，並有條理地傳達很重要，這種技能終生受用！



Preparing Your Speech

Word counts are a guide to give your

speech a basic structure. The main focus

will be on time management.

了解字數多寡能有助建立講稿架構，演說應主要著重在時間控制。



Writing the Introduction

Personalized the topic – show how it

relates to you. If you design your speech to

match your personality and style then it

will be easier to write and deliver.

加入個人色彩，展現題目與你的關係。將演講編排設計成符合自己的個性風格，那麼無論寫稿或發表，一切都會容易許多。



Writing the Body

List any and all possible ideas for the body

of your speech. The body is the largest piece

of this project. The best way to handle it is

to break it down into smaller pieces.

列出對演講主軸所有任何可能的想法，主文是演講中最重要的部分，最佳的處理方式就是把它分成再更小的段落。



Writing the Conclusion

The reason I usually skip “thank you” is

because I want my final thought to stick

with the audience.

我通常會略過“謝謝聆聽”這種結尾句的理由，是希望能與眾不同，而出色的結尾能使觀眾留下深刻的印象，甚至念念不忘。



Getting Help from Your Computer

In most cases Microsoft Word is helpful

for correcting basic spelling and

grammar errors. 大部分情況下，微軟Word有助基本拼字及文法的校正。



Asking a Native Speaker for Help

If you want to prepare as best you can, just

ask for some help. Try to have a native

speaker review your text and record the

audio or video at least 5 days before the

contest.

想做最好的準備，就求助英語母語人士吧！至少在賽前5天，請對方幫你查看、修正及錄製聲音或影音檔。

Memorizing Your Speech

Singers focus on lines and verses, great

speakers focus on key ideas. Memorizing it

can be done by breaking it down into

smaller pieces.

歌手將重點放在歌詞與歌韻，演說家則專注在講題的核心概念。背稿也是把講稿拆解成更小的部分來記憶。



Practice Performing Your Speech

Practice looking around as you speak. A

good idea is to imagine that you are in

front of an audience, and pick three spots

to look at as you’re speaking.

練講時視線要顧及全場，想像自己目前正在觀眾前演講，並將視線觸及三個不同的方位。



Fine-tuning Your Speech

When you give a speech you should speak

loud enough so the people in the back of

the room can hear you. Not yelling, but

speaking with boldness and confidence,

because every word you say is important.

發表演說時要盡量提高音量，讓後排觀眾能聽得清楚。不是大喊大叫，是很有勇氣自信地發表，因為你說的每個字都很重要。



The Night Before and The Day of the Speech Contest

Get enough sleep! A good night of sleep

will help your memory and overall

performance. Be sure to have a good

breakfast! It gets your day started right.

要睡飽！一夜好眠有助提升記憶力及整體表現。吃頓好早餐，會讓你整天精力充沛！

Look at the audience.

Move your feet.

Don’t talk too fast.

Smile when you can.

注視觀眾。

移動步伐。

語速適中。

Video the contest if possible.

Let the speaker start again when

there’s any interruptions.

After the Prepared Speech

Debriefing your performance. Jot down

some notes. Watch other speaker’s

presentations may help you improve.

Giving the Impromptu Speech

Writing your ideas down will help you

clarify how you want your impromptu

speech to go. By having an arsenal of

information ready to be used you’ll be ready

for the time you have to look at the drawings.

將想法寫下來能幫你理出即席演講的走向，把資料庫隨時準備好，看到圖片時就能從容應對。



The End of the Contest

Delivering a good speech is just a

matter of doing it frequently, learning

from mistakes, and becoming more

confident in your ability.

擁有好的演說技能就是要多參與並從錯誤中學習，你會對自己的能力越來越有信心。




Introduce all the judges, preferably before the contest.Announcing the top finishers. Students need to learn how to win gracefully and how to gracefully deal with not finishing in the top positions.

最好能在賽前介紹評審。

宣布優勝者，學生必須學習優雅地贏得

勝利，溫文地面對未得名的失落。

Don’t talk too long! Keep your comments between 3-4 minutes. Focus only on the really important aspects, use words that students will understand, and talk with an appropriate speed.

話及適中的語速。
