ConjugatingVerbs in the

Future Tense

The Future Tense 1. The future tense is used to indicate

an action that will, shall, or is going to take place.

ie…I will clean my room tomorrow. Yo limpiaré mi cuarto mañana.

The Future Tense 2. The future tense is also used to

express possibility or probability in the present.

ie…I wonder what time it is?¿Qué hora será?

(Hint – probability expressed in a question is usually translated as “wonder” and in a statement is translated as “probably”)

The Future Tense By using the future tense to talk about the

present, you are signaling that what you say is a guess about something that you do not know.

If you use the future tense in a question about the present, you are asking the other

person to guess an answer they are not expected to know.

(to someone wearing a watch) ¿Qué hora es? [present tense](to someone not wearing a watch) ¿Qué hora será?

Steps to conjugate in the Future 1. The stem is the entire infinitive.

ie...hablar, comer, vivir
