PORTGRAPHIC DESIGN

BY. JASON PEREZFOLIO

PORTFOLIOJ A S O N P E R E Z2

Hi

I am Jason Perez..

I consider myself to be extremely fortunate, because my ‘job’, such as it is, simply entails doing

what I love. I call myself a designer as it’s a nice umbrella term for the web design / print design /

illustration / branding work that I do, although I spend a great deal of time talking about design

I’m a simple 23 year old living in the city. I was born in the US but was raised in Colombia for part

of my childhood and returned to discover my passion in the arts. I have developed a keen interest

and skill set in Graphic Design and am an avid Graphic Designer capable of using my knowledge

and tools to execute any project or job. I am well versed in different areas of design and have suc-

cessfully designed solutions for print media and have a total work experience of 5 years. When

I’m not creating things, I spend my time trying craft beers, eating or cooking, as well as hiking.

Building visual brand identities that elevate and compel experiences true to your service and deliver a dynamic story. creative strategic design that shapes brands through powerful storytelling, stunning design and insightful problem solving. Many people believe a brand only consists of a few elements – some colors, some fonts, a logo, a slogan and maybe some music added in too. In reality, it is much more complicated than that.

One major role in the ‘brand’ or ‘corporate image’ of a company is its identity.

In most cases, identity design is based around the visual devices used within a company, usually assembled within a set of guidelines. These guidelines that make up an identity usually administer how the identity is applied throughout a variety of mediums, using approved color palettes, fonts, layouts, measurements and so forth. These guidelines ensure that the identity of the company is kept coherent.

Porter Brewery is a fictional craft brewery based in London. My branding proposal is a modern visual translation of distinguished traditional elements from old brewing traditions and surroundings. I developed a friendly, simple-looking brand that honors the human touch and workmanship behind every product.

While most bar brands use muted colors or complex graphics, I opted for a simple and straight-forward design language that utilizes a simple palette and a bold logo mark.

Looking at type from the 1800’s and pulling together certain attributes from sans serif typefaces. An illustrated ampersand was created to highlight the connection between the letters, that results in a detailed and spirited work.

This concept used inspiration from combining the three initial letters of the business in to a cursive. Creating a figure that would work as a centerpiece for the logos anvil.

Bone Island was a personal branding assignment for a client who owned property in Nova Scotia. He wanted to adorn his dish wear and have tote bags with his personal logo on it. Using details about his background and the location of his property we used nautical themes to put together designs for his brand.

The logo explores its inspiration in nautical language, Its end result positions the anchor as a graphical focal point. The elements found within the brand are inspired by signaling communication representative of ships.

The typography used is a mixture of elaborate with modern technique, using various details, like the coordinates of the island. Making it a strong and pungent logo, but with subtle details that give richness to the logo.

This concept came together from taking some inspiration from the 50’s with the typeface chosen. The solution was to design the seal, make it simple and the center point of the logo.

The concept was brought to life intending to portray the brand’s values - professionalism and trust. The idea was to convey expertise without loosing approachability. We designed custom typography for the word mark and chose a straight forward typeface for other applications to depict the industrial facet of the brand.

Pinning down exactly what is meant by the term Web design can be difficult. At best we can see that Web design is a multidisciplinary pursuit that consists of five primary components: content, visuals, technology, delivery, and purpose. However, theories of exactly how these components should mix together vary from person to person as well as project to project. Striking a fine balance between form and function, user and designer, content and task, and convention and innovation is the lofty goal of the Web designer. The good designer knows that scales should not tip too far one way or another and tries to avoid the absolutisms of “correct” Web design. Yet not everything in the field of Web design is so abstract—many specifics can be found. Correct mastery of the technical medium and knowledge of various details and conventions are mandatory for aspiring web design

A logo is for identification. A logo identifies a company or product via the use of a mark, flag, symbol or signature. A logo does not sell the company directly nor rarely does it describe a business. Logo’s derive their meaning from the quality of the thing it symbolizes, not the other way around – logos are there to identity, not to explain. In a nutshell, what a logo means is more important than what it looks like. Logo design is everywhere. It is the key element for any company’s corporate identity. It is important that as a company they ensure that the logo that is representing them is effectively designed so that people can easily identify and relate the logo to the company. If a logo is poorly designed, it can have a negative effect on the company it is speaking for.

A simple logo design allows for easy recognition and allows the logo to be versatile & memorable. Good logos feature something unique without being overdrawn.

Following closely behind the principle of simplicity, is that of memorability. An effective logo design should be memorable and this is achieved by having a simple, yet, appropriate logo.

Behind a good poster should be a message or idea, using the tools at my disposal I create a message that echoes through the use of minimal design. A message that focus exclusively on typographical and graphical posters, those that challenge type, colors and shapes to express a message.

On Friday March 11th, 2011 an earthquake of 9.0 magnitude triggered a tsunami hitting the coastline of japan destroying everything in its path. I decided to create a poster that would symbolically speak about the tragedy and aid the victims of this event. Using minimalist design and strong emphasis on iconography. I was able to create posters that were able to capture the series of events that transpired

Reading is a collection of work there relies on the careful deployment of typography. the way the type looks feels and behave impacts the way we consume messages words are sometimes images images are sometimes words typography can be in neutral vessel of communication decoration illustration installa-tion. The reader is left to discover each level of narrative, through images, text and hidden thoughts. This idea of discovery underlines, once again, the inside/ outside duality, forcing the reader to actively engage with the object.
