Model your process
Work comes into the Backlog queue
Take the high priority work and “pull” it into the Dev
activity
When Dev is complete, work is moved to output queue
Next priority work item is pulled into the Dev activity
Work begins to flow
Deploy has a problem, work backs up
Large batches and WIP cause the flow to slow
down
Limit work to 2 items in activity columns
Add policy that defines “Done”
Define policy for “expedite” work items
Work begins to flow again
Add the team
Test team is stuck, Deployment guy helps them
Deployment doesn’t work, Dev and Test help out by writing some
automation
Deployment still doesn’t work - all Devs lend a hand.
Devs help unblock testing of “C”
Problem solved – Devs move back to priority work items
Devs are done now so help out with Deployment automation again
Testers now help make the Deployment scripts more robust
Lead Time = Customer View
Cycle Time = Internal View
