namento mediante i tasti frontali e l'indicatorealfanumerico, con una procedura basata sull'at-tuazione di scelte guidate e sull'indicazione espli-cita e immediata delle operazioni eseguite, equindi praticabile senza alcuna necessit di tabel-le di codifica o altre informazioni mnemoniche;
DESCRIPTION
The SHG protection relay is the first component ofa new line of protection relays (S series) combiningthe Thytronic technology, acquired over the years andwidely proven in effective applications, with the featuresof the latest microprocessor-based devices.
The most significant constructive features are:- well oversized screw-type terminals;- extractable-type construction, with connector having
silver plated contacts with 6 contact points;- current measuring circuits provided with short-
circuiting devices;- fully insulating shell protected against dust and
dripping;
- membrane front panel, fully protected against elec-trostatic discharges.
The most significant circuitry features are:- all digital programming of operating features by
means of front panel keys and 16-digit LCDindicator with internal lighting;
- absence of any traditional mechanical calibratingdevice, since all calibration coefficients are storedin the microprocessor non-volatile memory;
- galvanically insulated input and output circuits (com-munication and blocking circuits included);
- continuous monitoring of analog input circuit off-setand automatic compensation of possible drift;
- measurement of input signals through sampling andA/D conversion with a frequency of 1 kHz;
- optimum filtering of input signals through combineduse of analog and digital filters;
- traditional electromechanical-type final output con-tacts with continuous monitoring of control coilcontinuity;
- auxiliary supply comprising a switching-type voltagestabilizing circuit having a very wide field of appli-cation and a very small power dissipation.
The most significant operating features are:- programming of operating modes and parameters by
means of the front keys and alphanumeric display,
with a programming procedure based on carryingout guided selections and on explicit and immediatesignalling of the operations being performed, sothat such procedure can be carried out withoutcoding tables or mnemonic informations;

- necessit della conferma finale (ovvero dell'annulla-mento) per ogni modifica delle caratteristiche difunzionamento;
- le operazioni di modifica delle caratteristiche noninterrompono il normale funzionamento del rel;
- oltre ai valori dei parametri (soglie e tempi d'interven-to) sono completamente programmabili anche lemodalit di assegnazione delle varie funzioni diprotezione ai rel finali, la condizione normale diogni rel finale e il tipo di ripristino;
protocollo di comunicazione sono quanto pi sem-plici possibile, limitando cos al minimo il costo delsingolo rel;
- final confirmation (otherwise cancelling) required forany change in the operating features;
- the feature modification operations do not interrupt
the normal functions of the relay;- in addition to the parameters values (trip level and
operating times), the modalities for allocation ofthe various protection functions to the final relays,the normal status of the each final relay and thekind of reset are also fully programmable;
- impossibility of programming unacceptable param-eter values, thanks to the automatic limitation oftop and bottom scale values for the relative settingranges.
The communication circuit is based on collectingmessages corresponding to several protection relays
(up to a maximum of 30 relays) into a special repeatermodule called concentrator (SCR type); this concen-trator communicates with a central supervisor unit,either directly or through a standardized communica-tion network. This system includes the following ad-vantages:- the interface circuits of the single relays and the
relevant communication protocol are very simple,therefore reducing the cost of each single relay toa minimum;
- the network connection is easier thanks to aperipherical unit (the SCR concentrator) whichcollects the large number of protection relayslocated in each cabinet.
The connection between the concentrator and theprotection relays is made up of two current loops, fedby the concentrator itself. Thanks to the operatingmodality, the absence or the failure of one or morerelays belonging to the loop does not affect thecommunication between the concentrator and theother relays which operate correctly. The communica-tion protocol between the concentrator and the pro-tection relays is a private one, since it does not allowfor connecting of devices other than the series Srelays; it is quite similar to other widely-used andtested industrial protocols, therefore it keeps theirhigh features for operating safety and reliability.
The blocking circuit, which is intended to build upprotection systems according to the accelerationscheme, presents as well high reliability characteris-tics, thanks to a periodic monitoring process for thecontinuity of the pilot wire connection.

The column VARIATION shows the maximumvariation of the mean error, due to the variations ofeach influencing quantity within its operative nominalrange.
The accuracy of the operation time for the depend-ent time functions refers to current values of 10...20 IS ,or 10...20 IE S; for lower values the mean error must bederived from the diagrams shown in the fig. 5...9. Theconsistency error and the variation of the mean erroralso grow proportionally to the mean error.
