OBIADYWere always on the lookout for new businessesand weve foundsomething completely different
for those of you who are looking
to taste something brand new and
exciting.
Celebrating its first anniversary
last December, Antoni and Ela
Piatkowskis quaint Polish Bistro,
set in the heart of Pillgwenly on
Commercial Road, serves the local
community with delicious home-
made and authentic Eastern
European cuisine. Antonis Bistro
is well known throughout South
Wales, with loyal customers coming
from far and wide to sample the
superb homemade cooking.
Very happy customer, Matt Filinski,
who had just finished a wholesome
plate of Placki Ziemniaczane
Gulazem (Potato Pancakes with
Goulash), told us: The food here
is excellent, the taste is exceptional.
The spices that are in the goulash
are just right and exactly how they
should be, its just like mum makes
it back home!
VOICE HAS FOUND YET ANOTHER GEM
FOR YOU LUCKY READERS TO PAY A VISIT
TO THIS MONTH - THE ONLY POLISHRESTAURANT IN WALES
All meals are freshly prepared on the premises with
the vast majority of ingredients sourced locally from
Johns Meat Market and Saturdays Auction Market.
Certain spices and specialist items are brought in
from a selected Polish retailer. Most dishes on the
menu need a lot of preparation to create and it is this
love, passion and extreme detail of cooking which
makes this homemade food taste so great.
Antonis famous goulash takes a few hours to
prepare and he works early in the kitchen everyday
before the bistro opens to make a fresh batch. For
those of you who dont know what goulash is, its
kind of like a soup or stew of meat, with a wide
variety of vegetables which is then seasoned with
paprika and other spices. This popular dish is the
firm favourite on the menu and we at Voice highly
recommend that you try it for yourself.
Another dish you simply have to try is Pierogi
Ruskie (Dumplings), these little delights of joy
are parcels of unleavened dough which have been
stuffed with a potato filling, which usually consists
of sauerkraut, ground meat, and cheese.
They are first boiled and then fried in
butter with onions.
Antoni told us: Its great when we
see new customers come back for
more, once they try the food they
love it. I know how people have a
misconception of trying something
different, but when you look down
the high street of any town in
Britain youll see food from allover the world, Italian, Chinese,
Indian, Turkish and Greek. It feels
so good to offer Polish food to the
wonderful people of Newport;
variety is the spice of life.
Hopefully well become as popular
in the British community as we are with the
Eastern Europeans!
