Auchmuty High School

Continuing the Journey towards a Curriculum for Excellence

Page 2: Auchmuty High School Continuing the Journey towards a Curriculum for Excellence

How Did We Do Last Year? Attendance up significantly to 93.9% Exclusions down significantly to half of year

before. 91% of our students achieving a positive

destination. (93% when they left. Keep in touch.)

The new timetable and move to ‘college ethos’ proved very successful.

A huge range of electives, clubs, concerts, events and activities across the school that have further enriched the curriculum.

Wider community links with industry and organisations continue to flourish.

Examination Results S4 5+ National 5 2011 2012 2013 2014 38% 37% 36% 37% S5 5+ Higher Awards 2011 2012 2013 2014 6% 10% 14% 11% S5 3+ Higher Award 2011 2012 2013 2014 19% 22% 25% 27% S5 1+ Higher Award 2011 2012 2013 2014 33% 45% 43% 51% S6 1+ Advanced Higher 2011 2012 2013 2014 9% 14% 19% 17%

Five years ago we set ourselves the target of achieving:1.30%+ at five Credit passes.( 25%- was typical)2.10%+ at five Higher passes in S5.(4%- was typical)3.20%+ at three Higher passes in S5 (18%+ was typical)

We have now consistently achieved our targets for the past three years and more. Our results in these areas are consistently better than our PIPS predictions.

Page 4: Auchmuty High School Continuing the Journey towards a Curriculum for Excellence

Reaching The Next LevelWe have the potential to achieve our new targets: 40%+ at 5+ National 5 by end of S485%+ at 5+ National 4 by the end of S495%+ at 5+ National 3 by the end of S413%+ at 5+ National 6 by end of S530%+ at 3+ National 6 by end of S555%+ at 1+ National 6 by the end of S5

Consistently strong performance within quite narrow parameters on a yearly basis.

Page 5: Auchmuty High School Continuing the Journey towards a Curriculum for Excellence

What Else Do We Need To DO?• Fully review and focus on effective teaching and learning

strategies. How we teach is every bit as important as what we teach.

• Ensure that all target setting, monitoring and mentoring systems are fully reviewed and operated effectively.

• Try to reduce development time demands for new courses and exams and time spent outside of the classroom by individual teachers.

• Ensure that testing adds to the learning experience and does not detract from it. National 5 testing was difficult last year.

• Ensure that our expectations and practices in S1 to S3 are appropriately demanding of our students as we build towards the Senior Phase. .

• Keep developing our academic performance as part of the development of the potential of the new school.

Concluding Statement• The curriculum for excellence has already delivered a

great deal of change to the educational provision of Auchmuty H.S.

• We continue to evolve the academic provision to fully deliver a BGE followed by a true Senior Phase.

• Literacy, Numeracy, HWB and IDL are key themes across each faculty.

• Wider partnerships across the local community are seen as a vital part of our provision.

• How we teach as well as what we teach is the key theme of our school based C.P.D. for this year.
