INFOPACK FOR THE PARTICIPANTS

Youth Exchange - “Great 4 MY Life!”

Erasmus+ program – Key Action 1

Project number: 2017-1-RO01-KA105-035780

We are looking forward to hosting you for our youth exchange ‘Great 4 MY Life!’ that will take place

from the 1st – 11th September 2017 in Brasov, Romania. We will now provide you with some practical

information regarding the project.

Project’s Name Great 4 MY Life! Exchange’s start date 1 September 2017

Exchange’s end date 11 September 2017

Location Brasov, Romania

Date of participants’ arrival 31 August 2017

Date of participants’ departure 12 September 2017

The main need and the general goal from which we developed the project “Great 4 MY Life”, is to develop a lifestyle that is healthy, active, tolerant and involved.

The specific objectives are: 1 Increasing the level of awareness to the importance of a healthy diet 2 Understanding the importance of interaction and communication in community 3 Understanding the benefits of using sport such as an instrument of social inclusion

Youngsters will develop basic competences of a lifestyle that is healthy, active, tolerant and involved and will have the possibilities to interact through the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ program. The project will be based on informal and non-formal learning methods, will be participatory, experimental and will allow working in groups in interactive workshops.

Youngsters will have the opportunity to discuss and to understand the importance and necessity of their involvement on long term in the problems of a healthy lifestyle, to find and even implement practical solutions for improving quality of life. Youth will be introduced to examples of good practice and new diet habits, so they will understand that marginalization and stereotypes can be exceeded, they will make physical activities and will learn to work in mix international teams.

The project wants to put an accent on finding ideas that are creative and innovative through realizing a video material and an electronic brochure (some of the tangible results will consist in “Great 4 My Life!” photo album on social media, video testimonials for a healthy lifestyle, videos promoting a healthy lifestyle, ideas for a healthy lifestyle program and activities in your community) from which the participants intend to send a message to the community.

Youngsters represent a very important target group, and the development of a lifestyle that is healthy, active, tolerant and involved is the most efficient method to maintain the healthy state on long term. At the

same time, based on the level of satisfaction, the state of health, optimism and self-confidence, these can mark their future.

Language of the activity The official language of the activity will be English.

All teams are required to come to Brasov with a preliminary work (according to the ERASMUS+ criteria). The content and "style" of the presentation (10-15 minutes) are left to the discretion of each national team.

We will ask to each national group to collect and present information and statistics about:

Which is the percentage of overweight young people (18-30 years) in your country? How does it show gender statistics?

This percentage increase or decrease during the last 20 years? How? Which is the percentage of sedentary young people (18-30 years) in your country? What are the culinary habits in your country? What comprises a regular menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Is there a relationship between food junk and obesity among the young people? What are the reasons, in your opinion, that lead to these results? Please explain the answer. There are NGO/institutions that promote healthy lifestyle and sport activities for youngsters? How

do they this? (examples) Is there a relationship between NGOs, young people and a healthy lifestyle in your country? Please

explain the answer. What kind of outdoor activities are usually practiced by young people in your country? What new sporting activities would you like to try in your country?

In addition to contributions related to the theme of the exchange, each group will have to select a series of games to propose during the exchange (specific national games).

We usually dedicate two nights to the intercultural evening presentation.

What we expect from you to present in these nights are: local or national dances, local music, games, little sweets, drinks, pictures, etc. from your countries.

Every country will prepare a short presentation of their culture, using all kinds of methods. It's preferred a short and FUNNY presentation, such as showing pictures and commenting it, quiz, short video (either already existing or made by you), etc. (YES - use your creativity!). For the intercultural night, we ask you to prepare in advance a brief performance (singing, your traditional music, popular dances) to present your group (typical costumes are really welcomed!).

The main idea of this presentation is: What is important for a stranger to know about my country?

Any kind of presentation is granted, better not to do a power-point presentation to avoid yawning.

The Intercultural night is the “most wanted event” on the beginning of the youth exchange. It is a sort of traditional night opened to all participant audience made up of our group leaders, youth workers, facilitators, participants to the exchange. All National groups are asked to perform briefly (10 for your NGO and country/city not more, and 10 min for traditional dances and music) in order to introduce their self. Certainly, we need your enthusiasm and energy!!

The food that will be brought must be eatable without any processing (boiling, frying, etc). of parking floor zone, in front of the entrance to Domestic Arrivals (from International Arrivals, go downstairs and follow the signs to get to Domestic Arrivals and then exit the building).

3rd step. If you choose this option please inform us in advance about your departure time at the airport! More information you will receive when the national group will be final!

From “Henri Coanda” Airport - Bucharest North Train Station (Gara de Nord) – Brasov – BY TRAIN 1st step:

http://www.citycomfort.ro/en/attraction/bucharest/how-to-get/780-bus-transfer-airport-train-bucharest/

Express Bus 780 - Henri Coanda Airport - Bucharest North Train Station (Gara de Nord) This is an express bus line, operated by RATB (public service) that runs between Henri Coanda Airport and Gara de Nord Train Station (Bucharest North Train Station). This bus line runs everyday from 05.15 to 23.10. The journey usually takes about 45-50 minutes either direction. If it is a rush hour, then the journey could easily take more.

Tickets The tickets are, in fact, magnetic cards. Tourists mostly use the blue card named Multiplu. A card for 2 trips costs 7 lei + the cost of the card 1.6 lei ~ 2 Euro. Because you will need Romanian money for the trip, we advise you to change a small amount in lei. The airport exchange rate is not very good and we do not advise you to change a large amount of money. You can't buy a card with only 1 trip, the cards are issued with minimum 2 trips and maximum 10 trips. This type of card is not rechargeable and you can use the trips together with your friends or family. There is another type of card called Active but that one is mostly used by residents, because it can be recharged with several types of tickets. When you travel from Henri Coanda Airport to Bucharest North train station you can buy this card from the automatic vending machine or the ticket booth located exactly in the bus stop. The bus stop is downstairs, on the lower floor, near the entrance to Domestic Arrivals (from International Arrivals, go downstairs and follow the signs to get to Domestic Arrivals and then exit the building). When you travel from Bucharest North Train Station to the airport, there is a ticket booth exactly in front of the main entrance in the train station (see the Map). After you have purchased the tickets, cross the street and near the crosswalk, on the right, there is the bus stop for the 780 Express Bus. Bucharest North Train Station is the penultimate bus stop.

When you are travelling from Henri Coanda Airport to Bucharest North Train Station the bus stops are: 0. Aeroport Henri Coanda (Airport - Arrivals Terminal) 1. Aeroport Henri Coanda (Airport - Departures Terminal) 2. Primaria Otopeni 3. Amco

4. Aleea Privighetorilor 5. Aeroport Baneasa 6. Casa Presei (Free Press Square - Bus connections) 7. Clabucet 8. Gara de Nord Train Station (Bucharest North Train Station)

When you are travelling from Bucharest North Train Station to Henri Coanda Airport the bus stops are: 1. Gara de Nord Train Station (Bucharest North Train Station) 2. Clabucet 3. Aeroport Henri Coanda (Airport - Departures Terminal) More information about the bus timetable and the route are shown.

Note: You must buy the card before you get on the bus because you can't buy the tickets from the driver. If you are already in Bucharest, note that some of the bus stops along the route may not have ticket booths, so better buy this card in advance. To validate your trip after you get in the vehicle, look for a small orange box with a blue LCD screen on it. Touch the indicated area on the orange box with your card and you will hear a short beep indicating your trip was validated. A long beep means there was an error and you need to try again. If you forget to validate your trip, you can be fined with 50 lei (approx. 11 euros)

2nd step:

https://www.cfrcalatori.ro/en/manuals/542-buy-online You can find the timetable at the upper web address. Also you can buy tickets on-line. You have to take a train to Brasov. Generally such a journey takes approximately 3 hours.

Romania, while its name is more than familiar to the Romanian visitors but also to foreign tourists around the world.

The medieval good-looking city was founded by the Teutonic Knights on an ancient Dacian site and settled by the Saxons as one of the seven walled citadels.

In 1211, the Teutonic Knights fortified the Tara Barsei area. On the site of the village of Brașov, the Teutonic Knights built Kronstadt – the city of the crown.

Germans living in Brașov were mainly involved in trade and crafts. The location of the city at the intersection of trade routes linking the Ottoman Empire and Western Europe, together with certain tax exemptions, allowed Saxon merchants to obtain considerable wealth and exert a strong political influence. They contributed a great deal to the architectural flavor of the city. Fortifications around

the city were erected and continually expanded, with several towers maintained by different craftsmen's guilds, according to medieval custom. Part of the fortification ensemble was recently restored using UNESCO funds, and other projects are ongoing. At least two entrances to the city, Poarta Ecaterinei and Poarta Șchei, are still in existence.

Brasov is one of the main tourist destinations for foreigner tourists and it is very easy to understand why. It’s medieval atmosphere, with old and stunning buildings, its cobblestone streets, its quiet and hidden alleys are among the most important reasons that make Brasov so desirable.

The Council Square (Piata Sfatului) of Brasov is a great place to relax while admiring the surrounding buildings and the passers-by. At first it was just a market place, later becoming the center of the medieval town. The building of the former Town Hall is the main attraction of the square. Built in 1420 by the Furriers Guild, it is the oldest building in Brasov and has been used as a watch tower, as the Town Hall, and even as a prison.

The main tourist attraction of Brasov is by far the Black Church, which practically outlines the history of the town. Built in about 100 years and at the request of the priest Thomas Sander, the Black Church is the most impressive Gothic religious building in the city. Built first as a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Black Church became the first Evangelical site in Transylvania. The church was given its present name in 1689 when a great fire destroyed much of the town, killing some 300 inhabitants. With a length of 89m and a width of 38m, with 40m exterior height and a 65m high tower, it is considered to be the largest church in Romania.
