We are building a library of multi-language children’s books as it is hard to find books in other

than Japanese for your child in here Okinawa. Ms. Cantereau, from the OIST Faculty

Affairs Office, donated her child's French books to the CDC and we would like to lend them to OIST

families. So far, we have 19 French books with hopes of building this library to include the manydifferent home languages of the OIST children.

If you would like to donate any children’s books for the international library or if you would like to

borrow any books in the children’s library the CDC International Library is located in the After School

Classroom in the Village Center and open every Friday from 1:00 - 6:00.

沖縄では日本語以外の本は入手しにくい多言語で書かれた子ども向けの本の図書館をＣＤＣで作っています。OIST教員担当学監オフィスのカンタルーさんから彼女のお子さんが使っておられたフランス語の絵本のご寄付をいただきました。１９冊のフランス語の絵本がアフタースクールプログラムの教室に設置され、ＯＩＳＴファミリーへ貸し出しを始めます。この図書館が将来、多くの異なった母国語を持つＯＩＳＴの子供たちのために多言語の本が揃うことを目指しています。

このＣＤＣインターナショナル図書館はヴィレッジセンターのアフタースクールプログラム教室に設置しています。本のご寄付をお考えの方、また、本を借りたい方はぜひお越しください。貸し出し、返却は毎週金曜日１：００－６：００の間オープンします。

We experience this proverb every day in our afterschool Children during their free play

time. Children are spellbound by his or her imagination! Some children show their

engineering skills in Legos/blocks, and some show their creative skills in origami paper

folding, or by board games since they create their own rules.

They turn their free play into educational play, by testing each other, on the flags of

different countries.

Most importantly, they teach us, the qualities of friendship, how to forgive and forget,

and team coordination.

アフタースクールの子供たちの遊び方を見るたびに、私たちは常にこの格言を思い出します。子供たちの想像力は魔法です！ 建築的な技術をレゴやブロックで見せる子やボードゲームや折り紙で表現する子もいます。

自由遊び時間に世界の国旗をクイズに変化させて教育的なゲームに発展させたりします。 許し、水に流してチームの流れを子供たちが調整していることを私たちの方が学んでいるのは重要なことです。

The children eagerly wait for their Computer day

each Friday! They enjoy playing simple math games,

do their homework, and even take spelling tests.

Another educational activity is typing practice. The

CDC also has an online resource that provides

many Genres and levels of children’s books for the

kids to enjoy and develop their reading skills.

コンピュータータイムはとりわけこども達には待ち遠しいものです。それは金曜日！単純な算数的なゲームだったり宿題やスペリングテストなどをする子もいます。タイピングの練習は教育的にも良いでしょう。いろんなジャンルの読み物で読解力の向上にも利用しています。

Homework Time

宿題の時間

The students of the Afterschool Program have homework time from 4:30 pm

and lasts until 5:15 pm. During homework time, the students are asked

to bring out and complete any homework assigned by their elementary school

teachers or work requested by parents. The teachers of the Afterschool

Program are prepared to create supplemental work for the children and also

help the students with their homework in any areas as necessary. Reiko and

Kalpana help students with homework in English; and Akiko help the students

with homework in Japanese. The Afterschool Program children are use to the

homework time schedule and are becoming more eager to complete any

homework that they have before his or her pick up time!

スナックを食べ終わったら学童のみんなの宿題タイムです！ ４：３０から始まって５：１５頃までの間、それぞれの学校からの宿題や保護者またはこちらで用意したお勉強をします。学童の先生たちは助けが必要な所を状況に応じたやり方で助けます。レイコ先生とカルパナ先生が英語の宿題を、アキコ先生は主に日本語の宿題について助けます。日を追ってみんなはこの宿題タイムのあり方に慣れてきてお迎えが来る前に宿題を終わらせるやる気をみせています！

The Parent Association for Tedako at OIST (PATO) is a grassroots group of parents

seeking to support the Tedako CDC and build community with other OIST families. We

have meetings 3 times a year to plan and discuss various events throughout the year

like Teacher Appreciation Week, fundraisers, and the Family & Teacher Summer Picnic.

We always are looking to include more families! Please come and be a part of the
