1. Form: Positive S + have / has + V3/ ed + OQuestion Have / has + S + V3/ ed + O?Negative S + have/ has + not + V3/ ed + O

2. Usage: – Chỉ hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ và hành động đó kéo dài đến hiện tại: (for, since)

Ex: I have taught English for 8 years now. ( … since 2000.)– Chỉ hành động vừa mới xảy ra hoặc xảy ra gần đây.(just,recently, lately…)

Ex: He has just gone out.– Chỉ hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ và hành động đó không cần xác định rõ vào thời điểm nào:

Ex: I have read this book already.Ex: He has sent her a letter recently.

– Chỉ hành động lập đi lập lại trong quá khứ nhiều lần:Ex: I have been to Hanoi several times.

– Chỉ hành động xong trước một hành động khác ở hiện tại hay tương lai:Ex: You’ll pass the test after you have done these exercises.Ex: He says that he has completed his work.

– Hành động, sự việc xảy ra trong suốt một quãng thời gian dài trong quá khứ nhưng nay đã chấm dứt.Ex: Mr Ben spent all his youth in Africa.

– Hành động lặp đi, lặp lại nhiều lần trong quá khứ nhưng bây giờ không còn nữa.Ex: My father always drank a cup of coffee for breakfast.

V. PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE: Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn1. Form:

Positive S + was/were/ V-ing +OQuestion Was/were + S + V-ing + O ?Negative S + wasn’t/weren’t + V-ing + O

2. Use: dùng để:– Diễn đạt hành động, sự việc đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ.

Ex: She was cooking dinner at 5 p.m.– Nhấn mạnh hành động, sự việc diễn ra liên tục trong một khoảng thời gian xác định

trong quá khứ.

Ex: They were quarrelling the whole time they were together.– Nói về hai hành động, sự việc diễn ra đồng thời trong quá khứ.Ex: I was reading while my sister was coloring a picture.– Diễn tả hành động đang diễn ra tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ (dùng past

progressive ) thì có hành động khác xảy đến xen ngang vào ( dùng simple past ).Ex: We were having lunch when he came.

VI. PAST PERFECT TENSE: Thì quá khứ hoàn thành1. Form:

Positive S + had + V3/ed +OQuestion Had + S + V3/ed +O ?Negative S + had not / hadn’d +V3/ed +O

2. Use: dùng diễn đạt:– Hành động, sự việc đã diễn ra trước một thời điểm trong quá khứ.

Ex: He ( had ) finished his work before dinner time. Khi mối quan hệ về thời gian của hai hành động rõ ràng ( có các liên từ after, before, as soon

as ), ta có thể dùng cả hai thì quá khứ hoàn thành và quá khứ đơn.

– Hành động, sự việc đã diễn ra trước một hành động khác trong quá khứ.Ex: I realized that I had made a silly mistake.

– Hành động đã xảy ra và kéo dài đến một thời điểm trong quá khứ.Ex: Jone hadn’d known Sue for very long when they got married.VII. SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE: Thì tương lai đơn

1. Form: Positive Question Negative

WILL: có thể dùng cho tất cả các ngôi.2. Usage:– Chỉ hành động hay sự kiện sẽ xảy ra ở tương ở tương lai.

Ex: The play will be over at 10 o’clock.– Chỉ sự mời mọc hay thỉnh cầu.

Ex: Will you open the door for me? Note: WILL có thể dùng với ngôi thứ nhất; SHALL có thể dùng với ngôi thứ hai và ba để chỉ

sự hứa hẹn hay quyết tâm.Ex: My parents shall have a car for me next week.( hứa hẹn)Ex: I will do as I have promised.(quyết tâm)Ex: You shall be punished.(đe dọa)
