    Husband should step up and

tell friend shes inappropriateDear Annie: We belong

to a dinner group with sixmarried couples. One of thecouples divorced after thehusband caught his wife hav-ing an affair. He no longercomes to the dinner parties, but the ex-wife still shows upand brings her new (married)

boyfriend. They have beentogether for three years.

Heres the bigger prob-lem: She irts with my hus-band at every social activity. She always gives him a hugwhen we run into her. He isalways pleasant and chats, when Id rather he was lesschummy. Onetime, on NewYears Eve, I sawmy husband puthis arm aroundher waist as shemoved to the mu-sic with anotherman. I watched(humiliated) as

the three of themswayed back andforth.

I assume itwas the alcoholthat prompted him to do this. However, it apparently fu-eled her re. At one dinnerparty, she leaned across thetable toward me and madea comment about my hus-bands size. I kept my cooland replied that it wasnt herbusiness, but my husband, who was sitting right next tome, said nothing.

At the dinners, we actlike friends, but I am sorelytempted to give her a piece of

my mind. My husband is get-ting aggravated with me. Heclaims hes never cheated onme and shes never touchedhim inappropriately. He says,What am I supposed to do?I asked him to delete hercell number, but he has notdone that. This woman is notmy friend, and I think shescrossed a line. Any sugges-tions? Had Enough

Dear Enough: As alwaysin such cases, the problemis less about the woman andmore about your husbandsreaction. He allows her irt-ing and even encourages her,and then becomes annoyed

with you for doubting him. Itundermines your trust. Thereis no reason for him to haveher phone number in his con-tact list. Ask him to deleteit while you are watching. Then tell him all of his future

responses to this womansinappropriate remarks shouldmake it clear to her that he isnot interested. If he refuses, the next step is counseling.

Dear Annie: I have no-ticed that whenever thereis a tragedy involving thedeath of a child, people place

stuffed animals and dolls atthe scene. Please, in memoryof these children, tell readersto donate the toys and dolls tothe local police or re depart-ments, hospitals or a cancercenter where they will bringcomfort to living children. Pennsylvania

Dear Penn-sylvania: Thats alovely idea, and wehope people willconsider it, althoughnot everyone willwant to. There issome sentimentattached to mark-ing the actual spot

where a tragedyoccurred. We un-derstand why lovedones might objectto having these trib-

utes removed, but in manyinstances, they are a safetyhazard. Also, stuffed animalsthat have been left out in therain and mud are no longer inany condition to donate.

The handling of theseroadside memorials belongsto the local municipality. Many allow toys, dolls, etc.,to stay for a specied periodof time, and then the depart-ment of transportation re-moves them. In some areas,

temporary memorials arereplaced with a single per-manent marker. The state ofDelaware bans roadside me-morials altogether and has in-stead provided the DelawareHighway Memorial Gardenas a tribute. You should in-quire with your local depart-ment of transportation andsuggest the objects be do-nated.

Dear Annie: I read theletter from Worried Wife, whose 44-year-old husbanddrinks too much and refusesto see a doctor or dentist. Inaddition to the advice thatyou gave her to contact Al-

Anon and make sure he hasa valid will and that his af-fairs are in order, she alsoshould make sure he has a lotof insurance. She will needit to raise their four childrenalone. K.
