ENGINE OIL
SAE GRADE RATING INDICATES ENGINE OIL VISCOSITY
An SAE visco sit y g r a d e is u se d t o sp e cif y t h e vis-
cosity of engine oil. SAE 30 specifies a single viscos-
it y en gi ne oil. E n gin e oil s a l so h a ve m ult iple
viscosit ies. These ar e specified w ith a dual SAE vis-cosity grade which indicat es t he cold-to-hot tempera-
ture viscosity range.

SAE 10W-30 = mult iple gra de engine oil.
API QUALITY CLASSIFICATION
The AP I Service G ra de specifies the type of perfor-
mance the engine oil is intended to provide. The API
Service G ra de specificat ions also a pply to energy con-
serving engine oils.

TO JUMP START A DISABLED VEHICLE:

Frozen battery.
Yellow or bright color test indicator, if equipped. Low battery fluid level.
Generator drive belt condition and tension.
Fuel fumes or leakage, correct if necessary.
CAUTION: If the cause of starting problem on dis-abled vehicle is severe, damage to booster vehiclecharging system can result.

Turn off a ll a ccessories, set the parking brake, place
t h e a u t o m a t i c t r a n s m i s s i o n i n P A R K o r t h e m a n u a l

OFF.
(3) On disa bled vehicle, place gear selector in pa rk
or n e u t r a l a n d se t p a r k br a k e . Tu r n of f a l l a cce sso-
ries.
(4) Connect jumper cables to booster battery. RED
clamp to posit ive terminal (+ ) . BLACK clamp to neg-
ative terminal (-). DO NOT allow clamps at opposite
en d of ca b l es t o t ou ch , el ect r i ca l a r c w i ll r es u lt .
Review all warnings in this procedure.
(5) On disabled vehicle, connect RED jumper cable
cl a m p t o p os it iv e (+ ) t er m in a l . C on n ect B L AC K
ju m p er ca ble cla m p t o e n g in e g r ou n d a s close t o t h e
ground cable at taching point as possible (Fig. 1).
( 6 ) S t a r t t h e e n g i n e i n t h e v e h i c l e w h i c h h a s t h e
b oos t er b a t t e r y, l et t h e e ng in e i dl e a f ew m i n ut e s,
t h en s t a r t t h e en gi ne i n t h e v eh icl e w i t h t h e d is -
ch a r g e d ba t t e r y .
CAUTION: Do not crank starter motor on disabled
vehicle for more than 15 seconds, starter will over-heat and could fail.
(7) Allow ba t t e r y in d isa bled veh icle t o ch a r g e t o
at least 12.4 volts (75% charge) before a t tempting to
st a r t e n g in e . I f e n g in e d o e s n o t st a r t w it h in 15 se c-
o n d s, s t o p cr a n k in g e n g in e a n d a l lo w st a r t e r t o co o l
(15 min.), before cranking again.

TOWING RECOMM ENDATIONS
RECOMMENDED TOWING EQUIPMENT

recommended. When using a wheel lift towing device,

dolly. I f a f lat bed device is used, the approach angle
should not exceed 15 degrees.

CAUTION: If vehicle is towed with wheelsremoved, install lug nuts to retain brake drums or
rotors.

FLAT TOWING WITH TOW BAR
3-speed automatic transaxle vehicles can be flat
towed at speeds not to exceed 40 km/h (25 mph) for
not more than 25 km (15 miles). The steering column
must be unlocked and gear selector in neutral.

TOWINGFRONT WHEEL LIFT
Chrysler C orpora tion recommends t ha t a vehicle be
towed with the front end lifted, whenever possible. A
90 cm (36 in.) length of 4x4 wood beam can be placed
be t w e e n t h e w h e e l l i f t d e vice a n d t h e bo t t o m o f t h e
fascia to prevent damage to vehicle during the lift ing
op er a t io n . Th e bea m ca n r e m ove d a f t e r l if t in g t h e
front of the vehicle.
TOWINGREAR WHEEL LIFT
I f a ve h icle ca n n o t be t o w e d w it h t h e f r o n t w h e e ls
lifted, the rear wheels can be lifted provided the fol-lowing guide lines are observed.
CAUTION: Do not use steering column lock tosecure steering wheel during towing operation.
