180 degree ruleThe 180-degree rule is a basic
guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a
scene.
This is the imaginary line called the ‘axis’ that you cannot cross, if you cross the line this is called ‘crossing or jumping the line’.
The Camera may film from anywhere along this line as long as it does not cross
the axis!
Shot-reverse-shotShot-reverse-shot is a
filming technique which shows you each side of the conversation. It is
the most commonly used shot when filming
dialogue between two characters. It starts off
showing the first character talking, then
shows the second character responding.
Match on action.Match on action is when
something happens in a scene, and there is a cut, when the scene is shown again everything has to be the same. This is an example of continuity editing, and helps
make the material more realistic and helps the audience to
continually understand what is happening.
