Liewe Ouers
Julle moet mekaar liefhê; soos Ek julle liefhet, Net so moet julle mekaar ook liefhê.

Term 3
MUSIC
On the music front it has been an extremely busy term. Congratulations to all pupils
who participated in the Tygerberg Eisteddfod. The excellent results that we achieved
are the result of dedicated practice and endurance by the music students.
The Junior and Senior choirs both achieved 88% for their performances. Well done,
to these pupils. A number of our pupils have also done extra-curricular music
examinations. We trust that the results will reward their hard work. At our Ignite
concert we had a variety of items presented by our talented dancers and musicians.
We honour God for the talent that our pupils have.

CHESS
Friday Friendly Chess
Our grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 chess players took part in quite a few friendly chess matches
this term. They represented our school well and won many of their games. We were
very excited to host a friendly chess tournament 2 September at our school this term.
The children played well and enjoyed showing the visiting teams around.
Thank you to all the parents that contributed in one way or another and that
faithfully transported children to chess matches. We look forward to more exciting
chess adventures next term.

WP league matches
We have 18 learners taking part in the WP chess league in this Term. We have entered
an U/9, 11 and 13 team for this term’s WP league. The learners have performed
exceptional well. During the two terms, they have played 102 matches (won 55 and
lost 47). A big thank you to all the parents who were able to help with
transportation. These matches wouldn’t have been possible without you.
We are looking forward to our Battle of the Knights chess tournament for all our
learners, 11 November.

AFTER SCHOOL DRAMA
The Lion King
The Gr. 4 – 6 Junior Dramatix group put on a spectacular “The Lion King”
performance 16 September. Thank you to all the parents who helped with
memorising the words, making costumes and doing the make-up. I have seen what
these wonderful actors can accomplish, and I am very excited to start working on
next year’s show!
“Wotalotigot” was the Gr. 1 – 3 drama evening, where 53 learners performed in 14
different assembly plays. It was wonderful to see how young actors progress form
classrooms to the stage and are able to perform with confidence. I am really looking
forward to see how these young actors grow in their acting abilities.
We are excited about the rehearsals for the 2017 Assembly plays in Term 4.
EISTEDDFOD
Well done to all the learners who took part in the Tygerberg Eisteddfod, everyone
did exceptionally well! Our three, group reading entries did very well, I can see how
these young readers are growing in their abilities and acting skills.

CRAFT CLUB
This term we completed a mosaic workshop. The children could make trays and
various objects for decoration purposes. These beautiful pieces of crafts will be
exhibited next term. We also got our pottery works back from the Tygerberg
Eisteddfod. It was on exhibition this week. The teachers are all amazed of our
talented potters! I am proud of the children’s very unique styles and ideas. I know
their parents will treasure each piece of art for many years to come.
Term 4 will kick off with a Cooking Workshop for Grade 4 - 6 learners on the 5th of
October. Entries are now welcome. I can only take 4 children in at a time. (Limited
space in the kitchen and one stove and oven!) I will repeat the same workshop every
Wednesday, therefor 12 learners can enrol. These workshops will run every
Wednesday from 14h45 - 17h00 for 3 consecutive Wednesdays. (5, 12, 19 Oct).
The last workshop of the year will be the Baking Workshop, starting 26 October – 9
November, 14h45 – 17h00 (three consecutive Wednesdays). Only for Grade 5 - 6
learners. This workshop will also repeat 3 times. Each workshop costs R150.
You can enrol your child with me, letters will accompany the enrolment form before
the school closes on 23 September.
Have a wonderful time of rest and remember to allow your child to be creative!!!

School Life
Term 3 has shown once again that time flies when you are having fun. We certainly
had much fun celebrating Founders’ Day this term. We had energetic young
runners who ran in their house colours, earning a lollipop each and some special
certificates and edible medals (chocolate medals are the best kind). We also had
our Senior Primary pupils decorating and pushing trolleys. They worked in groups
preparing for the big race and they can be very proud of themselves. The Grade 6
students won the overall trophy of the day for best trolley and spirit.
Everyone enjoyed the beautiful cakes that were brought in by each class. We have
some very talented bakers in our school.
1 September was a happy day with all the classes filled with flowers and the children
looking special wearing Spring-themed accessories.
The secretaries were also appreciated on Secretaries’ Day on 4 September. The
children prayed for them and blessed them with gifts and handmade cards.
We really appreciate the effort that the parents put into these special days, and we
enjoy having you join in the fun on the day.
Blessings,
Toni North
WINTER SPORT
TERM 3 - 2016
Dear Primary School Parents
Term three is done and dusted and once again, we can be truly
proud of our boys and girls, and importantly too, our committed
coaching “staff”. A heartfelt thanks from me to all of you for your
dedication and perseverance through this term, and year so far.
Each session with the kids provides another opportunity to plough
into them, not only in terms of sporting skills, but also their
attitudes, behavior, sportsmanship and teamwork. I continue to
look forward, with excited anticipation and hopefulness, that
together we will nurture and “produce” true sportsmen and
women, who will go out and shine His light in all areas of life.

WINTER SPORTS
NEWSLETTER
Outside of the school sports programme, several of our boys and girls continued to succeed. A number
of our boys were recently awarded at club soccer level and it is always encouraging to hear that a few
of our boys were named as “Player of the season” for their respective club sides.
Joshua Bailey and Joshua Gerber were named amongst 50 boys from an initial 350 candidates who
made the Ajax First Touch Programme and started a four month intensive training routine in August.
We continue to follow their progress as we wait to hear whether they will eventually be chosen to
represent the Ajax u12 Premier football team.
As previously mentioned, Holly Gerber competed in the Cape District Trials in June in the age 7, Level
1 category where she got gold and came first overall with a 9.063 point average in all 4 disciplines: bar,
beam, floor and vault. She then went on in August to compete in the South Zone National Competition
in Uitenhage and managed a third overall position- in the country (in the same category), while also
being awarded with another gold medal and a point average of 9.088!
After having achieved 1st place with a gold medal in her club competition in May 2016, Cleo van Coller
was selected to compete in even bigger competitions. At the end of July the District trails were held at
the Western Cape Sports School. Cleo, a Level 5 gymnast, participated at this competition and
Holly Gerber at the recent South Zone
National Gymnastics competition, held in
Uitenhage.
achieved 3rd place on Beam, Floor and Bar and 1st place on Vault, securing her position at 2nd
overall. With that Cleo qualified for the Western Cape Championships in August.
At the championships she accomplished 3rd on Bar, 2nd on Floor & Vault and 1st on Beam, attaining
a 2nd position overall. With this Cleo will be representing the Western Cape Gymnastics team during
the first week of October at the SA Gym Games.
We wish you all the best Cleo, and congratulate all of our boys and girls.
Netball
Hanlie, Zendre and Mary-Ann continue to work together towards creating a new love for the game of
netball at El Shaddai and we can already see new life and interest in the sport. I was again privileged
to be able to watch our girls in various matches at the Bastion Primary School tournament earlier in the
term, in cold and partially wet conditions.

The term ended with a season-end fun filled afternoon at the Brackenfell Indoor Arena where girls and
some of their brothers, coaches and parents took part in fun matches using the popular Indoor Netball
format and we look forward to further opportunities to expose our girls to this format of the game as
their skills and abilities are developed and improved.
Hockey
The hockey clinic, presented by Enhanced Sports was rescheduled from term 2 due to weather and we
were blessed with a clear, relatively warm evening on the 27th July. I am so grateful for the way things
worked out and for the participation by 75 El Shaddai hockey players on the night. I think the highlight
for me was the fact that 3 current South African players, and 5 Western Province players were on the
coaching team that night, including our very own Tarryn Glasby, who can also be seen on DSTV playing
in the newly launched PHL (Premier Hockey League). I trust that the clinic will be the start of many
great players to emerge from our ranks.

held at Bastion Primary
School.
Special thanks again to Ilse, Amelia, Corne, Sam, Tobie, Annalise and Louwrika for their ongoing
support in coaching our teams of boys and girls, from u7 to u12. Overall, we had another successful
term with mixed results of losses, draws and wins, showing that we aim to strengthen our teams through
continued exposure to A-level opponents from neighbouring schools and areas.
The astro sessions on a Wednesday evening have continued in term 3 and will do so again in term 4.
The vision for these sessions is that with ongoing exposure to the playing surface, our boys and girls
will prove formidable opponents at astro-type tournaments and matches in coming seasons and years.

Biathlon
The 2016 / 2017 Western Province Biathlon season has started and will continue in term 4 (2016) and
term 1 (2017). A few upcoming event dates are included in the term 4 calendar below.
We had a turnout of 12 Primary School athletes at the first event of the season and after the results
were released, ESCS was placed at number 1 (Primary School division), out of 24 schools who
competed on the day.
We recently competed in the
annual Paul Roos Gymnasium
Boys U12 Hockey Cup, held over
two days in August, with a team of
6 x U12 and 4 x U11 boys, and
finished 7th overall. Phillip Jeftha
was missing from the squad due to
illness and we truly missed his skill
and flair.
The 2017 tournament has already
been confirmed for 1st and 2nd
September 2017 and I hope to
improve on our results next year.
The format follows a middle-distance run and swim and the distances for the two events are dependent
on age category. I strongly encourage more participation in this sport over the season and welcome
any questions in this regard. All boys and girls are welcome and if your child has missed one or both of
the two completed league fixtures so far, they are welcome to participate at any stage of the season.
Visit the WP Biathlon at www.wpbiathlon.co.za for all the information, results, maps, distances and
point tables, as well as other related links.
