XYLON AT XYLEXPOHALL 2, STAND C33

  • n 2013, apparent consumption of woodworking ma-chines and tools in Italy amounted to 500 million Euroapproximately. Of these, 350 were made-in-Italytechnology, while import was worth 150 million Euro.

On the contrary, Italian export, though decreasing, wasstill remarkable, at more than 1,130 million Euro out of atotal turnover of 1,500 million. These figures suggest a few simple remarks.First, import: 150 million out of 500 represent 30 percent,a physiological value in a mature market.Second, export: more or less it account for 75 percent ofturnover, a significant share which ensures a surplus inthe industry trade balance close to one billion Euro. After more than five years from the outburst of the worstrecession in the second post-war period, we can statethat the industry, though heavily affected, has resistedand has found vital nutrients in export.Next to the big industrial groups whose offer encom-passes most woodworking technology, smaller busi-nesses have emerged and established, addressing aglobal niche of users and a market big enough to keepworking and making innovation, sometimes unperceiv-able, but constant and consistent over time. This is the background of the greatest technology exhi-bition in even-numbered years, Xylexpo, that is cele-

brating its 24th event in Milan from 13 to 17 May.The show comes just a little more than one month afterthe Furniture Show, also held in Milan, which was a hugesuccess both for the exhibition offer, and most of all, forattendance, evidence of some liveliness in the varie-gated furniture and design world, with significant impactalso on woodworking. Will Xylexpo be able to repeat, proportionally, the suc-cess of the Salone and give the push that our industrystill needs to get finally past the negative cycle? We think so. Technology on display will encompass allsegments, with several innovations, and the early sig-nals for attendance are largely positive. For all our in-dustry, Xylexpo may be the turning point, back to agrowth trend for the manufacturing industries that drivethe country’s economy. Also Italianwoodtech will be there: visit us to exchangeideas and opinions, and to find out how your magazinecan support you in your daily challenge with the globalmarkets.

A real source of sat-isfaction for all of us: we wanted to showwhat we are, the results of the long, in-tense reorganisation of our work, our willto look to the future with renewed opti-mism. And that's what we did. Rimini, Vil-la Verucchio and Thiene were the mile-stones of a long journey within ScmGroup. We showed just how much

  • Wood pellet exports from North America to Europehave doubled in two years to reach 4.7 million tons in2013 with the Us South accounting for 63 percent of thevolume, according to the North American Wood FiberReview. North America exported wood pellets valuedat over 650 million dollars in 2013, a dramatic increaseof more than 250 percent in just two years. The Us Southshipped almost three million tons last year, which wasalmost two-thirds of total export volume from North Amer-ica. With no slowdown in sight, North American woodpellet exporting companies keep building new facilitiesto manufacture pellets for the European market.Export volumes hit a new record high in the 4Q/13 andthe total shipments for 2013 were up almost 50 percentfrom the previous year and more than double that in2011. A rapid expansion of pellet production capacityin the Us South during 2012 and 2013 has resulted ina tripling of pellet production in the region in just twoyears. The expansion, which is entirely driven by demandfor biomass in Europe, has increased pellet exports from800,000 tons in 2011 to 2.9 million tons in 2013 accordingto data compiled by Wri and reported in the North Amer-ican Wood Fiber Review. Many of the recent investments in pellet capacity in theUs South have occurred along the Atlantic coast, withEnviva and Fram Renewables expanding production inthe states of Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. The expansion in Canadian pellet export has been lessdramatic than that of the Us, but 2013 volumes were stillover 50 percent higher than in 2011, with British Co-lumbia shipping amajority of the volume. In Canada, there have been two recent developmentsof interest: the first regular shipments of pellets to SouthKorea started in the second half of 2013 and exportsfrom Eastern Canada from Quebec, Nova Scotia andNew Brunswick, increased during this same time period. ■

WORKSHOP“Tech & Trend” with Arpa, Biesse and Rehau

It was held last March 14 in Pesaro, the workshop “Tech& Trend 2014” − Technology and innovative solutions forsmart materials – organized by Arpa Industriale, Biesseand Rehau to update their customers on the latest inno-vations to meet the trends that orient the furniture indus-try today. The event, which saw the active participation ofmore than fifty partners, has been a great successthanks to the topics covered, the moments of demonstrationand in particular to the strong synergy that unites the workof the three companies within the technology materials forinterior design, solutions for laser edging and machineryfor their processing.

Arpa Industriale presented the new “Hpl 2014 FenixNtm®”, the exclusive intelligent material created for inte-rior design, suitable for both vertical and horizontal ap-plications. The exterior of “Fenix Ntm®” is obtained withthe aid of nanotechnology and is characterized by a dec-orative surface treated with resins of new generation, re-sult of research of Arpa Industriale. Following a discussionon the history of laser edging , which sees Rehau pioneersince its inception, Andrea Bucciarelli has stressed the im-portance of co-extrusion process for the production of theedges to get the highest quality beading not only optical, but also mechanical , regardless of type of polymer used.Rehau then presented the range of edge laser developedto perfectly match the colors and surface features of “FenixNtm®”, whose careful design has allowed to obtain thesame surface appearance and to maximize the resistanceto scratches. Biesse spoke about “Air Force System”, thenew technology based on the application of hot air, whichthanks to the improved quality of the finished product andthe simplicity system, has greatly lowered the entry bar-rier to the use of laser edges. The second part of the workshop was held at the plantBiesse, in which participants were given a practical demon-stration on the edge banding machine “Stream” and ob-served the benefits of the innovative bonding system boardusing hot air. ■

JAPAN Case study workshop for the new use of timber

The 5th case study workshop for the newuse of the timber hosted by Japan Fed-eration of Wood-Industry Associationsand Japan Council for Advancement onTimber Utilization was held in Shinkiba,Tokyo, on last February. This presenta-tion is popular as various examples oftimber usages are introduced at thepresentation every year. This year, over200 people keenly listened to the pres-entation made in Part1: Timber utiliza-tion in towns and cities and in Part 2: Re-port on a survey of “the urban devel-opment utilizing timber.”The Forestry Agency recently com-piled the short-term forecast of thesupply and demand for major timber forthe second quarter (April - June) of 2014and the third quarter (July - September)of 2014. New housing starts for fiscal2014 (April 2014 - March 2015) that wereused as the base for the forecast were

estimated to be 860,000 units, down by13 percent from 989,000 units thatwere the estimate for the previous yearwhen the housing start was strong dueto factors such as the rush demand be-fore the increase in the consumption tax.As for the lumber demand for the sec-ond quarter (April - June), the demandfor both domestic lumber and importedlumber was forecast to decline from thesame period in the previous year as areaction to the rush demand generatedin accordance with the increase in theconsumption tax. On the other hand, asfor the demand in the third quarter(July- September), with the demand ex-pected to recover, the demand for thedomestic lumber was forecast to in-crease from the same period in the pre-vious year. The demand for importedlogs and plywood was forecast to remainunchanged while the demand for the im-

ported lumber products and laminatedlumber for the structural use was fore-cast to decline. The situation sur-rounding the foreign lumber continuesto be severe due to the conditions in pro-ducing areas and the trend for the for-eign exchange. The use rate for the do-mestic lumber is expected to increasepartly due to the impact of the Wood UsePoints Program. The supply of products of North Amer-ican lumber that is a major foreign lum-ber was forecast to decline by 13.1 per-cent in the second quarter and by 4.3percent in the third quarter. At the sametime, the supply of European productswas also forecast to decline significantly, down by 21.2 percent in the secondquarter and by 23.6 percent in thethird quarter. The import of lumberproducts troubled by high log prices isforecast to decline significantly. ■

    XYLEXPO: READY, GO!

  • May-June 2014 XYLON INTERNATIONAL 19

Here we are. Everything is ready for the 24th event ofXylexpo, the biennial international exhibition of woodtechnology and furniture industry supplies. A few days moreand the curtain will open onto this new date in Milan and awide range of solutions that, for the past 50 years, havebeen regularly presented to an audience with a large shareof international visitors. As we are closing this issue of Italianwoodtech, there are438 exhibitors registered for the show, including 122 fromabroad, over an area of 27,000 square meters. These arenot record figures: many of us hoped that 2014 would be aturning point, the beginning of a better season for the Italianmarket. We will have to wait longer, but we must say that, inMilan, everybody will be there. With less square meters for many, with smaller stands, maybe with less staff involved, but nevertheless all majorplayers will be in Milan from 13 to 17 May.

And as we love to say, it could not be otherwise. Xylexpo isstill a major event in the global circuit of industry exhibitions;it is the major showcase of one of the most importantnational industries of woodworking technology, in terms ofquality and relevance of its solutions; it is a stage where youcan display machinery, products, semifinished materials, lines, technology to operators from all over the world, butmost and foremost to the leading actors of the Italianfurniture, interior decoration and design industry. So, also this year, we are going to see great things.

As you will notice, the Italianwoodtech issue you are holdingin your hands is entirely dedicated to this exhibition. Orbetter, to "made in Italy” at Xylexpo. We always take theopportunity of the most important exhibitions (Xylexpo ineven-numbered years, Ligna in odd-numbered) to askItalian manufacturers to give a preview of their presentation. So, Xylexpo is the “fil rouge” we have followed to introduceproducts and tell a few stories: that's our way of celebratingthe Milan May.

You will find us in Hall 2, Stand C33. We are looking forwardto meeting you!

ous development, that works in the field of energyconversion of solid biomass. The Venetian companyranks among the top three world-companies in thefield, with 2,500 boilers installed in more than 100countries. Its boilers for industrial use, with powerbetween 90 kWt and 15 MWt, heat companies, swimming pools, hospitals, hotels, stables, farms, and through district heating, also quarters or evenentire towns. And this is mainly due to the ability toinnovate in one area, that of energy generated fromrenewable sources, which certainly takes advan-tage of the incentives but that, with regard to sol-id biomass, it is attractive even without support.Three companies, LaTiEsse, Pal and Uniconfort, which lie a few kilometres away from each other, whose collaboration has made it possible not onlyto save the production of an "environmentally-friendly" fuel like pellet, but also to continue to en-sure dozens of jobs in Veneto.Uniconfort has designed and installed for LaTiEssea co-generation plant that produces both electricityand heat, that is capable of reducing to one-thirdthe energy bill. A strong economic benefit that gavethe company some fresh air, making it able to con-tinue working in Italy. The boiler, a diathermic oilGlobal 500, is connected to an “Orc” system. Itburns 15-16 thousand tons of materials per yearand is able to simultaneously generate 1 Mw ofelectricity and 4 Mw of thermal power. The elec-tricity produced is sold to the electricity network. The heat, instead, is intended to feed the dryer forthe production of pellets. "Installing a solid biomass boiler allows for eco-nomic advantages − Davis Zinetti, Ceo of Uni-confort, says − Then when the boiler is connect-ed to a turbine to generate electricity from the heat, the benefits "simply" multiply. Co-generation makesit possible to optimize the use of fuel by improv-ing its economic performance. The electrical en-ergy produced can be used on site and, if in ex-cess, sold to the network. This allows to speed upthe return on investment". Installations of this type are now countless: Uni-

The solid biomass boiler installed by Uniconfortoffered a new breath of fresh air to a major com-pany that produces pellets, and which employsnearly ninety employees. The company, fighting in sustaining the very highenergy costs to continue production, was in factalready looking to relocate the production seatabroad, thus shutting down one of the first Italiancompanies in the sector. The main character of this happy ending story isLaTiEsse srl in Cimadolmo (Treviso), well known forits “Brucciolo” and “Bravo Pellet” trademarks. Thecompany was the first in Italy which dedicated itself, since 1994, to the production of pellets, intended pri-marily to supply the domestic stoves. It producesabout 60 thousand tons per year, that is 20 percentof the whole Italian production, exclusively intend-ed for the domestic market. A market worth abouttwo and a half million tons of pellets per year, andwhich is forced to turn abroad for more than 90 per-cent of the total purchases. This figure alone givesyou an idea of how important it is to maintain the pro-duction of LaTiEsse within our borders. The second actor in this story is Pal in Ponte di Pi-ave (Treviso), Epc contractor which coordinated theoverall design of the factory and the installation ofthe turbine and the boiler. Finally, Uniconfort, a company in San Martino di Lu-pari in the province of Padova. A really high-qual-ity technological plant, characterized by continu-

confort boilers work in hospitals, sawmills, swim-ming pools, supermarkets, and are used for dis-trict heating both in Italy and abroad. Examples in-clude a facility in the heart of Milan, the Prometeusproject, which provides electricity and heat to 1,800flats with standard wood chips, for a saving of about50 percent on heating costs."The benefits for the environment are not even fin-ished − Zinetti adds − The system has been de-signed so as to comply with all regulations relat-ing to emissions of ash and fumes. A bag filter wasmounted and thanks to a high-tech system a con-siderable reduction in particulate matter and NOxwas obtained. The environmental impact is there-fore completely irrelevant, result that of course youcannot achieve when fossil fuels such as naturalgas are burnt! And not only. I stress that biomassshowed a zero balance with regard to CO2. Onedata for all: with our 2,500 boilers we have beenable to avoid the emission of 100 thousand tonsof carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The equiv-alent emissions of 10 thousand cars that make acomplete round of the earth!".The plant has been running since December2013 and between the design and installationstages, and its actual commissioning, just 11months passed. Uniconfort has followed step bystep all the stages. "We support the company in thecomplex and delicate path that leads from the de-cision to install a solid biomass plant up to its ac-tual start-up: from the feasibility study to the doc-uments needed for access to incentives, from ob-taining funding to the research for the supply chain, from design to manufacturing and installation, notto mention maintenance over the years − Zinetti con-cludes − A long and complex path, if you do notknow the right roads, that Uniconfort can customizebased on your specific needs, by providing the ap-propriate technologies and ensuring reliability, safety, cost-effectiveness and, above all, quality". lutions and targeted employment sec-tors as diverse as joinery, industrial andresale, professional design and archi-tecture studies. Versatility for “Spazio3D” also means theability to adapt and meet the ever-changing demands of a global market, integrating design methods and oper-ational conditions which may haveprofound differences between them.More than twenty years of experiencein Brainsoftware dedicated to theseprinciples has led to the creation of soft-ware that is able to express their full po-tential both in the individual its differentmodules that achieve these mutual in-tegration in “Spazio3D”. “Spazio3D”flexibility led to its spread in various re-gions of the globe, making it a com-petitive and appropriate to the needs of

markets with different cabinet con-ceptions between them: from Europe,South Africa, South America, to the Mid-dle East, China, India and Australia. Allthis has led to the need to provide bet-ter coverage of these regions in orderto support users in the best way and im-mediate; necessity that has resulted inthe recent opening of the new Asianbranch offices in Manila. The main tool in the design “Spazio3D”is the cabinet generator. Many customers have disappeared, other keepworking but they are not investing. “We cannot com-plain – Eleonora says – about the way things aregoing: we are close to 20 million Euro turnover, withan export share exceeding 92 percent. We did nothave big variations, thanks to our solid business inmajor markets like Russia, where we opened our“Griggio Center” subsidiary in 2004. That marketbrings great satisfaction, accounting for just belowone-third of our revenues. After all, we were pioneersin that country: my uncle, Paolo Griggio, was oneof the first Italian to offer woodworking machinery”.

Machines have changed, their technological con-tent has greatly increased from the past. Have usersalso changed accordingly?“It depends on the market”, Filippo Griggio explains.“Some markets still need good conventional ma-chines with the right price/performance ratio. In coun-tries where the wood and wood-based materials in-dustry is more mature, they are looking for more so-phisticated solutions. The company’s production pro-gram fits into this scenario, with our historical ma-

Filippo, Paolo’s son; Eleonora, Giovanni’s daugh-ter; Francesca, Ennio’s daughter. They are the mus-keteers of the new Griggio generation. The old gen-eration is still in the driving seat, but the arrival oftheir children is not just a big pleasure for seniors,it's also a great pride, as the raw material seemsto be good to build something...You can feel the determination to move on, to im-prove, to adapt tools and assets to the challengesof a much tougher and competitive market, wheresuccess requires constant and deep commitment.

“Things have changed much since 1946, when Grig-gio was born”, Filippo Griggio says. “There aremany challenges, the market is difficult. The winnersare those who offer quality, product and price. Andyou win if you work 365 days a year, with no breaks”.

Work is a strong value in this region of our poorcountry, but hearing these words from young peo-ple under 30 is impressive. Positively, of course. They are well aware that they are going through adifficult season, that price is too often a key factor.

The third “Griggio generation” is increasingly committed to designing the futureof a historical company of Italian woodworking technology, ready to play its part in a period of great change, as the Veneto-based companyapproaches lean management.

line where different machines are mounted. We alsohave excellent results in terms of productivity; wehave reduced stock, shortened lead time, reduced“missing parts” on the line... Such a clear, clean, linear process can only have a positive impact onfinal product quality, with very accurate cycle times, which are essential when production is driven byincoming orders”.

“The approach to “lean production” was a big tran-sition towards the future”, Filippo Griggio said. “Wereally believe in the work done by our parents, andwith this new method we have been able to relaunch

chines next to an increasing number of advancedsolutions, working centers, or conventional ma-chines with more electronics and IT. We want to of-fer new technology, therefore we have empoweredour R&D department to design new solutions thatwe will also exhibit at the upcoming Xylexpo.During crisis periods, you must invest to be readyto leverage early recovery signs, focusing on op-erator safety and flexibility. We are also competi-tive in panel sawing now, with our company Acmin Novellara, while Ascot manufactures finishing, rusticating and brushing machines, which are anemerging business. I remind you that this year, atXylexpo 2014, we are celebrating the 30th an-niversary of Griggio Group and ten years of busi-ness in Russia”.

What's the meaning of the adoption of lean man-ufacturing, or the "Toyota system", to use otherwords?“As we said, in difficult times you have to challengeyourself, ask the right questions and find new an-swers”, Filippo Griggio says. “We considered it wastime to make significant changes in the com-pany, investing on staff training, work organizationand methods, and we have obtained great im-provements. We have re-designed production cre-ating lines based on the “kaizen” concept of con-tinuous improvement.

“It’s a great experience”, Eleonora Griggio adds.“Our employees gave an amazing response, they felt involved, valued, more appreciated. Theyplayed an active role in this phase, showing theybelieve in their company. Now we think together, weevaluate together what's best and how to do it. Theyhave acquired multi-expertise, they can work in dif-ferent positions along the line, or even move to a

ulate their availability to change. We bring a dif-ferent point of view, ideas for change that are ac-cepted without much trouble... We all work for thesame purpose, not only the owners, but everyoneat Griggio, whatever the role”.

Let’s talk about markets: apart from Russia, whichwe have already mentioned...“We have solid business in the Gulf countries andNorth America”, says Filippo Salmaso, area man-ager of South East Asia. “We are focusing energyon a few emerging areas: we have already beenpresent in Northern Africa for some time, but we are

now looking with increasingattention at countries likeGhana, Nigeria, Kenya,Ethiopia, with constantlygrowing Gdp. These marketsare difficult because theyhave no sales organizationand you have to build fromscratch. We are working wellin Armenia also, where wehave invested and created astrong sales network to be aleading player”.

What are the passwords forthe future?“Innovation, aggressiveness, improvement, growth, newsoftware and more ad-vanced technology”, Eleono-ra Griggio replies. “And serv-ice, of course! Last week wedelivered a spare part for amachine from the Fifties thatis still working. We have in-vested a lot on our spareparts service, completely

renovating it according to the “lean management”principles, with a totally different method that hasenabled us to cut order delivery from eight to threedays. And customers notice this... We will imple-ment the same approach in all departments, in-volving every single employee at Griggio”.

After all, we areamong the leadingmachinery manu-facturers in Italy, andthe products we cur-rently offer for squar-ing, for instance, compare with Ger-man competitors: wehave quality andconstruction stan-dards superior to other Italian com-panies. Today Griggio is different, but weare still in the middle of the river:there are many things to do, but wehave already done just as many. Wehave recently inaugurated a 4-thousand-square-meter section inour facilities, with a new big pow-der painting line”.

“Many initiatives, many aspects, many new projects aimed at pro-viding our customers with bettermachines at more competitiveprices, so that we can be more competitive, a keyfactor in a period of stagnating business”, Eleono-ra Griggio says.“We have entered markets where we were absentor only made occasional business. We have revisedthe design of our machines... so, a real revolution!”.

Was this change driven by young Griggio’s or byyour fathers?“We can say we thought about it together. We loveto call it a “constructive clash”: we provoke, we stim-

sources like big corporations, but we keep in touchwith our customers, so we can exactly understandwhich way to go. Starting from the “end” of theprocess, from our customers, we can adapt our vi-sion, identify priorities and make clear decisions,we must be able to say no and understand wherewe have more margins for action, the areaswhere we can seize more opportunities”.

Margins are so narrow that if you have to makeeverything to size, or too much...“On repeatable products we are committed to en-gineer every single screw, so that we can short-en assembly and minimize the screw stock! Thisis clearly an extreme example, but it gives an ideaof the challenge we are facing today”.

Is your business sector mature?“Thank heavens, it isn’t. There are still hugegrowth margins in windows and upholstered fur-niture, just to mention a couple of examples. As Isaid, we must focus on providing the best machineto each group of users, completing them, makinga step forward to increase the entry level for po-tential competitors, add value through software byintegrating the machine into the enterprise and itsmanagement.Let’s go briefly back to the concept of user “seg-mentation”: the cutting and optimizing needs ofa window manufacturer are not the same as a pro-ducer of upholstery or packaging. And within eachcategory, there are different working methods. Oursuccess depends on the capacity to identifythese different situations and to deliver solutionsthat are designed exactly for their specific needs, for that specific method of producing a sofa or apallet. So, machines as universal as possible but

aged ad-hoc solutions. We cannot work for indi-vidual customers, we don't want to and we don'thave to, but we can put our experience, our skills, our knowledge of customer processes to fruition,to provide them with the right machines for theirjob. This does not mean that we have two identi-cal machines, but we do the best we can to workwith industrial methods that are often consideredinapplicable to a company of our size. I love to say that we have a big head on a smallbody, a strong design expertise with an agile man-ufacturing organization. We don’t have huge re-

XYLEXPO 2014, A DATE WITH INNOVATION

Salvador is coming to Xylexpo with a few new solutions, newversions of their optimizing saws that – besides offering a “uni-versal” product with all the aggregates and accessories avail-able in standard versions – can be equipped to provide an“ideal” solution for specific applications.“Superpush 200” is a clear example, a pusher optimizing sawthat offers maximum flexibility in the standard version, whilethe “Window” version is a “dedicated” solution for the windowindustry, introducing new specific accessories such as labelprinters or sophisticated inkjet printers that can “write” on thehead of the profile. The “Supercut 500” family is celebrating the birth of the new “Su-per fast” version, ideal for the production of stripped and glu-lam panels, and more generally for all applications where youhave to remove defects, cut and optimize profiles at high speed. At FieraMilano-Rho Salvador is exhibiting the new “Classic 50”,an “entry level” manual cross-cutting saw with no trade-off be-tween ease of use, safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.Last but not least, “Superangle 600” is a working center forangle cutting, equipped with a high-efficiency optimizing sys-tem that can increase productivity and offer utmost precision, while preserving a simple and flexible process logic.

to grow without increasing fixed costs, in an in-dustry where the number of players is reducing.Manufacturers come and go, they leave spacewhere we can take a chance. If you look at the en-tire supply chain, there is a rally of investments insmall and medium enterprises, while huge in-vestments are shrinking, with too many companiesclosing down in recent years”.

You belong to the second generation, a commonsituation for most Italian companies in this indus-try, having to face a very difficult economic sea-son. Doubts? Hopes? Projects?“In the United Kingdom, I read the word “sacrifice”on many memorial stones and on the basementsof statues from the post-war period. Each time Iread that word, I thought that we must believe wecan win, we must never give up, we must be readyfor "blood and tears" if we believe in what we do,

if we have a passion for our work.We must work three times as muchto get one half... it takes a big heartto do that. But then, when youachieve results, satisfaction iseven bigger. In recent years wehave seen our brand grow from allpoints of view, awareness, visibil-ity, perception of technologicalvalue. Things are going pretty wellalso for a natural pessimist as I am,but every year we start over andwork even harder”. (l.r.) ■Hall 2, stand C12/C20

within each specific segment, so that a window fac-tory can have an ad-hoc machine as if it had beendesigned specifically for them!”.

A challenge...“If you don’t set new goals, you won’t go far. Withthese ideas, we have been able to manufacture ma-chines that are very similar to each other. Now we are looking into the future: we are collectingresults in terms of new territories and products. Inaddition, we are also going to see economic re-covery, however modest, but still enough to con-vince many people that it’s time to invest again. Insome European countries we are seeing an in-crease in European loans... this trend is driving usto change, to adapt our production capacity to in-creased demand, while keeping fixed costs at aminimum, because the problem of narrow marginswill endure for a long time. Therefore, we will have

    SISTEMINEWS AT XYLEXPO 2014

The Pesaro based companySistemi will present at Xylexposome news. The new line of col-let chucks “KleinOverline” willsatisfy the need to perform op-erations with cnc machines intight and hard to reach spacestogether with the utmost preci-sion at higher speed (36.000 rpm). The main advantages are the distance be-tween tool holder and tool that can reach 200 mm, the tool holders are bal-anced at G2.5 and can work with up to 36.000 rpm; they are supplied with spe-cial nuts without lengthwise cuts, which grant a remarkable reduction of noise;these nuts have to be tighten with proper torque wrenches, which also avoidany damage to the nut.New gauges for measuring panels. The search for a higher level of qualityin the industrial processing of the panel has made it essential to use appro-priate and precise measuring instruments and brought M.Conti in collabora-tion with Sistemi to develop a new line of linear gauges ideal to fulfil this pur-

pose. Completely ren-ovated and innovativethe new gauges aremade of extruded barsespecially designedand tested through the-oretical simulations of

rigidity and stability confirmed by dynamic tests in severe conditions of use. Each component has been completely redesigned in order to achieve per-formance more advanced, accurate and long-lasting. A high resistance to shocksand scratches is granted by components in anodized aluminium and a hard-ness 50Hrc; special veins on the back of the profile increase the resistanceto bending and torsion; the gauges designed primarily for panels measuringcan also be used in the window production and in the processing of alumini-um, plastic, glass and metal; a wide variety designed to meet every demand:linear measurements, distance between holes, internal/external measurementsof frames, 45° cuts, etc.All gauges wi
