    Sunday (Cheesefare)

    The Holy Fathers have appointed

    the commemoration of Adam's ex-

ile from the Paradise of delight

here, on the eve of the holy Forty-

day Fast, demonstrating to us not

by simple words, but by actual

    deeds, how beneficial fasting is

for man, and how harmful and de-

structive are insatiety and the transgressing of the divine com-

mandments. For the first commandment that God gave to man

was that of fasting, which the first fashioned received but did

    not keep;

and not only did they not become gods, as they had imagined, but

they lost even that blessed life which they had, and they fell into

corruption and death, and transmitted these and innumerable

other evils to all of mankind. The God-bearing Fathers set these

things before us today, that by bringing to mind what we have

fallen from, and what we have suffered because of the insatiety

and disobedience of the first-fashioned, we might be diligent to

return again to that ancient bliss and glory by means of fasting

and obedience to all the divine commands.

Taking occasion from today's Gospel (Matt. 6:14-21) to begin the

Fast unencumbered by enmity, we also ask forgiveness this day,

first from God, then from one another and all creation.

Forgiveness Sunday St. Paul's Letter to the Romans

    13:11-14; 14:1-4

Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 4. Psalm 75.11,1

Make your vows to the Lord our

God and perform them. Verse: God is known in Judah; his

    name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 13:11-14; 14:1-4

Brethren, salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct our-selves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licen-tiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. As for the man who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not for disputes over opinions. One be-lieves he may eat anything, while the weak man eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who abstains, and let not him who abstains pass judgment on him who eats; for God has wel-comed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for God is able to make him stand.

Forgiveness Sunday The Gospel According to Mat-

thew 6:14-21 The Lord said, "If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Fa-ther also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Fa-ther forgive your trespasses. "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where nei-ther moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

    Plagal Fourth Tone

From on high you descended most Compassionate; you ac-cepted a three-day burial; so that you would, from the pas-sion free us all, our life and res-urrection that you are, glory to you O Lord.

    Apolytikion of the Church

To-day is the crown of our Sal-vation and the manifestation of the Eternal Mystery. The Son of God becometh the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel announceth the good tidings of grace. Wherefore let us also with him cry to the Mother of God: Hail ! Thou that art full of grace; the Lord is with thee.

Dear parents, Last August when we met for the calendar meet-ing and I proposed to have a Karnavalia night I was very anxious and stressed that maybe I could-n't find enough people to share my dream. Since 2015, every year I celebrated with my students the Tsiknopempti. Last year, we accomplished and celebrate the whole school together. But this was-n't enough. I wanted to have our Greek communi-ty together and celebrate our greek tradition. Lan-guage is only a piece of being Greek. But we should not forget our culture, our traditions, our "ithi kai ethima". So, Father Dean said that we can put the date in the calendar. About two months ago, I started to plan the Kar-navali. But I couldn't do that by myself. The first person that believed in my dream was Koula Ma-kris. And if we owe her a big BRAVO and THANK YOU for everything she did to make this happen. She not only believed in my dream but also supported this dream. We also need to thank the PTA moms and every single family of the Greek School that donated and supported us. The PTA took care of everything and for the first time, I felt that we are a family. It's amazing to see how many people care about our Greek School. It is amazing to see how many mothers, grandmothers, and fathers helped with the food and the prepara-tions. A million thanks are not enough in order to show how thankful I am. God bless you all. You donated time, food, money... You approached businesses and other people outside of greek school and told them about how hard we try. And they also helped us. That day, Sunday 3rd of March was a huge success because you all tried. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, each one of you. And I want to thank our teachers too because they always support my dreams, our dreams. I hope this will become a tradition. PTA and Greek School is a team, is a family and days like that is the biggest proof. Yours sincerely, Evangelia Koukouras

    THE PRE-SANCTIFIED

Jesus Christ in the middle of the week. We will also hear a reflection to educate and inspire us in our Lenten journey.

enhance our spiritual journeys during Lent.

    Let my

    And the lifting up

    of my hands, as

Confession “If God forgives us for our

sins, why do we need the

    Sacrament of Confession?”

Confession is a Holy Mystery (Sacrament)

that helps us in our path of repentance

and reconciliation with God. It is a

Sacrament by which we receive God’s

grace for our healing and reunion with

    Him.

Of course, God is ready to forgive us eve-

ry time we turn to Him in sincere repent-

ance and ask for His mercy. In fact, every

day we should turn to God, asking for his

forgiveness for our countless daily sins.

Many times, however, we don’t even know

or understand our own sins. We also too

easily dismiss our sins without sincerely

repenting. This is where the Sacrament of

    Confession helps.

In Holy Confession, we confess to Christ

Himself, represented by an icon of Christ,

and with a priest present, who is a wit-

ness to our confession. It is often quite

difficult to acknowledge the totality of

our sins, so the priest is there as a spiritu-

al doctor, helping us see our own true

self. In fact, many people are totally blind

to their sins and can’t fathom the ugly

roots of evil deep within ourselves. Thus,

by the grace of God, the priest, helps us

see and understand our sins, and then

guides us to healing and change, all un-

der the sacramental grace of the Church.

The Sacrament of Confession is a

spiritual tool which, when used properly,

can lead us into a deeper understanding

of ourselves, into a state of sincere

repentance, and into a fuller union with

    God.

Why don’t you try to go to Confession

during this season of Great Lent!

Make an appointment by contacting the

    Church Office.

It is the practice of our Church to give the name of a Saint to the new born child. By assuming the name of a Saint, we not only honor and express our gratitude to a Holy Person for his exceptional contribution to the Orthodox Faith, but provide the new Christian with an example worthy of emulation. The Saint then becomes the Patron of the child protecting it from all danger. Through his prayers, God will grant the child the necessary illumination to become a zealous member of the Church and an ardent follower of Christ. If by chance we accidentally miss someone's nameday, we ask that you please contact the Church Office so that we may correct our records. We extend our prayers to all those celebrating March Namedays and beseech our heavenly Father to grant them many years.
