Dear Fellow Rotarians,

November is the month of Rotary Foundation. In our District we have got approval up to 50 Global Grant and District Grant projects in each year valued at more than 130 million baht. Do you know how did we manage to do that although we did not donate more than 15 million baht? This is due to the wonders of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International. TRF got donations worldwide, manage for 3 years and then return 50% of the donations in the form of share system to each district and the contributing club. This is what we call DDF or District Designated Fund. Clubs then use the returned DDF in matching funds projects which the International Partner must contribute at least 30% of the contributing fund, then TRF will match the same amount (The funding amount from TRF must be at least 15,000 US$). That is why we must contribute to the Rotary Foundation if we want our District to apply for more projects.

Up to the end of October I have visited 83 clubs on the official District Governor’s visit. I have very good response from the clubs with a commitment of 391,404.68 dollars in PHF. As November is the month of Rotary Foun-dation I would like to invite those who have not yet donated or never donated to start with at least 100 US dollars (3,500 baht).

On Polio Plus, it is a great pleasure to announce that only 2 countries in the world still have polio i.e. Pakistan and Afghanistan. Even though Thailand has been polio free for more than a decade, we still have to give vaccine to children of alien workers, who have become target group in special campaigns at factory and construction sites. Because of this we have “Walk and Run to End Polio Mini Marathon” fundraiser to be held 27th December 2015 at Rama VIII bridge. Please buy a T-shirt costing 300 baht and join us to walk and run to End Polio and

DEAR FELLOW ROTARIANS,

One sunny morning at the end of June 1991, a van drove through the busy, rush-hour streets of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Winding through traffic to a northern suburb, the van arrived at the Forward Command Headquarters of the Defense Ministry. Security guards stopped it for inspection. When they did, the two suicide bombers driving the van detonated their cargo: thousands of kilograms of plastic explosives.

The roof of the building was blown off completely. Debris was strewn for blocks. In total, 21 people were killed and 175 people injured, among them many pupils of the girls’ school next door. More than a kilometer away, the blast shattered every window in my home. My wife raced toward the sound of the explosion – toward our daughter’s school.

Our daughter was then nine years old. That morning, she had forgotten her pencil case at home. At the moment of the blast, she was coming out of a stationer’s shop, admiring her new pencils. Suddenly her ears were ringing, the air was filled with sand, and everywhere around her people were screaming, bleeding, and running. Someone pulled her into the garden of the badly damaged school, where she waited until my wife arrived to bring her back to our home – its floors still covered with broken glass.

Sri Lanka today is peaceful and thriving, visited by some two million tourists every year. Our war now is only a memory, and we as a nation look forward to a promising future. Yet so many other nations cannot say the same. Today, more of the world’s countries are involved in conflict than not; a record 59.5 million people worldwide live displaced by wars and violence.

In Rotary we believe, in spite of all that, in the possibility of peace – not out of idealism, but out of experience. We have seen that even the most intractable conflicts can be resolved when people have more to lose by fighting than by working together. We have seen what can happen when we approach peacebuilding in ways that are truly radical, such as the work of our Rotary Peace Fellows. Through our Rotary Foundation, peace fellows become experts in preventing and resolving conflict. Our goal is that they will find new ways not only to end wars but to stop them before they begin.

Among the hundreds of peace fellows who have graduated from the program, two from Sri Lanka, one from each side of the conflict, studied together. In the first weeks of the course, both argued passionatelyfor the rightness of their side. Yet week by week, they grew to understand each other’s perspective; today, they are good friends. When I met them and heard their story, they gave me hope. If 25 years of pain and bitterness could be overcome by Rotary, then what, indeed, is beyond us?

We cannot fight violence with violence. But when we fight it with education, with understanding, and with peace, we can truly Be a Gift to the World.

Ray KlinginsmithRI. FOUNDATION TRUSTEE CHAIR

IT IS WELL-ESTABLISHED that The Rotary Foundation is the focus of attention in the month of November, and we try our best to

publicize our Foundation programs and to raise money to fund the programs during the entire month! But why November?

The idea started in May 1956 when the RI Board designated the week of 15 November as Rotary Foundation Week. The

designation was firmly in place by 1961 when I was a Rotary scholar in South Africa, and most of the southern African clubs

featured programs about the Foundation that week. I also observed the same focus when I returned home and joined the Rotary

club in my hometown of Unionville, Mo.

Many of our clubs at that time scheduled low-cost meals at their meetings during Rotary Foundation Week and donated

the savings to the Foundation. It was a good way to produce Foundation funds at a time when most contributions were still

made by clubs, not by individual Rotarians. But why did the RI Board select the week of 15 November in 1956 and then expand it

in 1982 to the whole month of November, starting in 1983-84?

My speculation is that the initial decision in 1956 was based on the realization that many clubs in the Northern Hemi-

sphere, particularly the large clubs, were not fully active during their summer months of June, July, and August. Therefore, it was

best to wait and give time for the clubs to educate their members each year about the Foundation. And since the Foundation

contributions were coming from the clubs, it gave the clubs time to raise the money, but still send it to the Foundation in the first

half of the Rotary year for investment purposes. It was a win-win situation for both the clubs and the Foundation!

Regardless of whether my speculation has merit, Rotary Foundation Month has been, and will continue to be, a critical

factor in the success of our Foundation. It is the month that our clubs and districts continue the tradition of educating our Rotar-

ians about the amazing quality of our Foundation programs and seeking the needed contributions to make the world a better

place.

Our Foundation is a premier organization, and it owes its success to the support of Rotarians, many of whom have gained

their appreciation of Foundation programs during the traditional emphasis on such programs in November. The importance of

Rotary Foundation Month should not be discounted, and I hope that all of our clubs will feature the Foundation during the month

of November. It is a significant and productive tradition, and I encourage all Rotarians to take the time to attend their club and

district Foundation events this month. Embrace the tradition! Celebrate the Foundation!

มลนธโรตาร Dear Fellow Rotarians,

On the occasion of the Rotary Foundation Month, I would like to extend my warmest good will to all fellow Rotarians, and also my sincerest thanks to all the Clubs for the generous contributions to the Foundation this year. The total donation of District 3350 ending October 15th, 2015 is as follows:

US $ 347,473.24 has been donated into the Annual Fund, US $ 32,593 into Other Funds, US $ 46,000 into the Endowment Fund, totaling US $ 426,066.24. Also, US $ 128.79 Annual Fund Per Capita has been made in the names of the District Governor and DRFC I would like to take this opportunity to thank all fellow Rotarians for your kind support.

This year has been the first time that the DRF assumes the role at the hub of the humanitarian Rotary wheel. Through the initiative of DG. Chaivai Poonlapmongkol and with the support of various Clubs who have agreed to act as hosts of core projects which offer many times the return to other participating Clubs, the “Collaborate and Spread our Strengths” program has taken shape. This initiative has been well received as can be seen from the fact that 63 Clubs have now participated in the projects, and many other Clubs have contacted us to express their interest even after the DRF’s deadline.

As is the case with everything new, some problems have been encountered. However, they have been taken into account and improvements will be made in the future. I do hope that during my 3 years as DRFC, the “Collaborate and Spread our Strengths” system that gives multifold returns will be able to help move the Rotary wheel to wards those who are less privileged in all clubs’ communities so as to help lay a strong foundation for small and newly-established clubs as is the intent of the initiative.

In order for the Clubs to be strong, it is very important that the members know about Rotary and how the humanitarian activity support system works. However, the District’s conferences cannot cater to all Rotarians. To ensure that all Club members know about the Rotary Foundation, I will be happy to visit all the Clubs in our District to give you the information. Do feel free to contact me at any time should you wish to have me come and give the talk at your Club.

To be the gift to the world and all Clubs in our District

PP. Prasart Kiatpaibulkit DRFC , D. 3350

Important projects of the community service of District 3350 in six areas of focus, either peace and conflict resolution scholarship, highly valued medical devices, various disease anti-vaccines, mother and child care, water filtration and resources, education or community development since it was Matching Grants in the past until changed to Global Grant or District Grant today, are all achieved with donations from your clubs, international partners and matched by TRF.

Just all fellow Rotarians contribute together gradually every year and look out selecting good project that meets the needs of the people in your community and in one of six areas of focus, your community service will be successful as targeted. The most millions or multi-million projects used a donation of your club only thousands. This reinforces the idea that District 3350 and our country gain and gain solely from the Rotary Foundation.

So, in the month of Rotary Foundation, just everyone participates in a donation to the Rotary Foundation consistently, all communities in your club custody will get maximum benefit from the management of funds by the Rotary Foundation. Please rest assured that we are a nation benefitting hugely from every shilling we donated to TRF. If you want the great achievement of community service, please donate to TRF today.

Interact is one of Rotary International’s nine structured programs designed to help clubs and districts achieve their service goals in their own communities and in communities abroad, fostering fellowship and goodwill in the process.

What is Interact? Interact is a service club for young people ages 12-18. Sponsored by local Rotary clubs, Interact clubs give young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends.

Interact Goals • Develop leadership skills and personal integrity. • Demonstrate helpfulness and respect for others. • Understand the value of individual responsibility and hard work. • Advance international understanding and goodwill.

A Part of the Rotary Family Interactors and Rotarians are partners in service. Rotarians mentor promising youth in their communities. Interactors bring new energy to a Rotary club, inspire fresh ideas for service, increase support of projects, and help develop future Rotarians.

Interact History • Interact stands for international action. • The first club was chartered in 1962 at Melbourne High School, FL, USA. • Today there are more than 18,413 clubs in over 133 countries with an estimated membership of 423,499 youth worldwide.

About Interact • Sponsoring Rotary clubs provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting. • Club membership varies and can be single-gender or mixed-gender, large or small. • Members are drawn from one school’s student body or from several schools in the community.

Program Guidelines Interact clubs are encouraged to • Be school-based or community-based. • Have a Rotarian adviser and a faculty adviser for school-based clubs. • Meet at least twice a month. Interactors must attend 60% of regularly scheduled meetings. • Require no financial support from the sponsoring Rotary club.

Service Projects Interactors carry out activities to • Benefit schools and communities • Expand international understanding

How to Organize a Club 1. Form an Interact subcommittee. 2. Identify the membership base. 3. Hold informational and organizational meetings. 4. Complete the Interact Club Organization List. 5. Submit the list to Rotary International.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

If we want our Rotary club to be stronger, there are at least 2 major things to do at the same time:

Club Service

Club service will be the first activity that can strengthen our Rotary club. It is just like a strong foundation for a safe

home. Like having an attractive living room for a nice livable home guest hospitality.

Fellow Rotarians, our beautiful Rotary club living-rooms are

1. A Rotary meeting room that always has club meeting.

2. A Rotary meeting room that is filled with club members who come regularly to the meeting.

3. A Rotary meeting room that has interesting meeting program.

4. A Rotary meeting room that has friendships’ activities to unite love and harmony among club members.

5. A Rotary meeting room that has club’s weekly newsletter that can communicate with people in communities.

Community service

Community Service should be in the community that our club is located. The activities should fit us---not over and not

under our own abilities. Therefore, it will support the growth of our club. To achieve the greatness of the club and to ensure

its sustainability, there are 3 things to consider or survey:

1. Survey the community: To design new projects that are matched to the needs of community.

2. Consider of club status: To create projects that suit to the ability status of the club.

3. Consider the Club Members: The new projects initiated must create happiness, love and unity among members

in the club.

If you successfully complete in Club service and community services, they will be an integrated part of the club’s public

relations in the community, and they will support the increasing of the club's membership easily. Together, Let us start building

our club stronger and bigger.

Dear Fellow Rotarians, In managing the Rotary club, there are many important matters in managing members and the club. Giving clear and accurate Rotary information that happens in the past, present, and future is the most important in order to catch up with Rotary and the ever changing world. And this is the task of the Director of Rotary Information who has to always search and inform the members. Therefore, Including Rotary Information in every weekly meeting program is a MUST for every Rotary club. Member vocational information should also be included too in the meeting program. Members will have the opportunity to understand what vocation other members are doing. As a Rotary Information Chair in D.3350, I would like to invite and suggest that every Rotary club should include Rotary information, member’s vocational information, D.3350 news, and RI news in their weekly meeting. I believe this should be very beneficial to all of us.

It’s such a pity to see children with craniofacial anomalies such as Frontoethmoidal Encephalomeningocele, Facial cleft, Midface distraction, and Craniosynostosis. It would be great if we can help them have normal faces so that they can live normal lives in the society. They will not be burden to their families and eventually become adults who do good things to community and country. More importantly, to commemorate the 60th Birthday anniversary of HRH. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Princess Sirindhorn Craniofacial Center provides the charity surgery and needed treatment free of charge to these patients. Therefore, the Center opens for kind donation from the benevolence.

On behalf of District 3350 Fellowship Events “Spouse and Family” Committee Chair, I’ve discussed with the committee about the donation to support this project. I have gathered kind donation from the Committee, Past District Governors, Rotarians and Spouses from many clubs, altogether we can donate 330,000 Baht to the Deputy Director of Chulalongkorn Hospital-The Thai Red Cross Society, Director and the Assistant Director of the Center on October 9, 2015. May the merit that we have done together on this occasion bring happiness and good health to you all forever.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Apart from being Rotary Foundation Month, during the beginning of November is also marked as the World Interact Week. Therefore, we provide more articles on these two events.

Rotary One Day is another activity that will happen more often in coming months. In this issue, you will find pictures of the 1st Rotary One Day of this year, organized by RC. of Wat Singh. The 2nd Rotary One Day by 4 sisters club in Lopburi province (RC. of Lopburi, Pranarai Lopburi, Banmi, Praramesuan Lopburi) will be held on November 3 at Chongsarika School, Pattananikom, Lopburi and the 3rd one is holding by RC. of Bangkok Rattanakosin on November 18 at Wat Dok Mai School on Rama III Rd., Yannawa, Bangkok respectively. All Rotarians are welcomed to join the activities. This is not only to support the host club but also to observe the event just in case that your club may host the event in the future.

Have you bought the End Polio shirt to support District 3350 Rotary Walk & Run to End Polio project, which will take place on December 27, 2015 at Suan Luang Rama VIII, yet? It costs only 300 Baht each. The involvement of Rotarians is needed for this event in order to publicize to other people about our continuous effort to end Polio from this world. For those who need more information, please contact PP.Prasarn Chirachaisakul, Walk & Run to End Polio Committee Chair,Tel. 081 308 3341
