The South African youth in particular are subjected to drug abuse. Mr Kalaya Modimo from the Central Drug Authority clarified a few aspects to Hammanskraal news abou this burining issue. He mentioned that victim’s heart seems to skip a beat due to being over excited from drug consumption or use. From the said state, the drug takes effect and the abuser becomes abused.

On the other hand, interactions have been put underway between SASSA,Social Development, SAPS, Special Social Services,Health Department,

NGOs and NPOs. A source said that the government pays around R35, 800 per month per single patient for treatment. The source further emphasized that the referred patients at times do not finish their course of treatment and go back to drugs. He stated that common drugs, other than nyaope, are alcohol and dagga (patje/lebake). He related that long term use of dagga lead to memory loss, reservedness, lack of apetite, lack of libido and finally, impotence. On the other hand, excessive alcohol abuse leads to impatience, verbal abuse and assaults. According to the source, the nearest social workers consult with families and the affected abusers who has a to be ready be assisted. He said that in the

case where the abuser agrees, the social worker’s office makes the necessary referrals. He outlined the stages of treatment of the affected persons as follows:The prevention stage is more informatory where the department of Social Development staff visit school, communities, radio stations, churches etc, to dissipate information. The treatment stage takes 20-21 days ata rehasbilitation centre, hospital or clinic. The patientis given bed rest to allow the drug abuser’ body to withdraw under strict doctor/nurse supervision. She mentioned, among others, dizziness, nausea and stomach cramps as some of the symptoms of drug withdrawal.

From treatment (20-21 days later), the patient is referred to a rehabilitation centre where he/she is given chores and responsibilities. At the same time, the patient is taught and trained in monitoring and fighting conflict as well as its management. Family members are also urged to encourage and motivate the former abuser to stay clean. The source relayed that child headed families are subject to drug and substance abuse. It was also stated that children are subjects of affected persons after abuse of any drug. The source mentioned that drug usage is similar to selling the land and the country. She concluded that drug abuse adds up to unnecessary deaths that also cause the government lots of money.

Most women tend to look down at breast feeding and its emphasized good for the new-born babies. Nutritionist, Refilwe Fatane, who hails from Gauteng Province telephonically responded to Hammanskraal News on the good that a baby gets when it is breast- fed. She stated that it is imperative that mothers should bond with their babies through breast feeding. She added that the interaction of the suckling baby and the mother when she soothes and talks to it promotes affinity between them. She emphatically said that breast feeding is best.Refilwe voiced that this kind of feeding helps the mother’s womb to quickly get to its normal state.Refilwe said that the first breast milk that the baby gets from its mother is called colostrum. She explained that the colostrum is rich in nutrients that are suitable for the underdeveloped stomach of the baby. On the other hand the milk enhances growth and development of the baby. She warned though, that babies have to ONLY be breast fed without use of any other nutritional method i.e no water as the milk supplies the necessary water or solid food of any kind. She added that breast milk is served at the desired temperature for the baby. She added that breast feeding also helps the baby to breathe properly as it depended entirely on its mother during pregnancy. On the other hand, she added the colostrum contains antibodies that would help fight diseases from the mother or those from the surrounding. Refilwe stated that the colostrum changes its form to the commonly known breast milk within the first five (5) days after the birth of the baby. Colostrum also assists in the defecation of the first stools of the baby that is dark in colour and that it is important that the baby’ body gets rid of such stools.Refilwe voiced that breast feeding can last as long as possible depending on the parent and baby social stands. She said that it could be done between one and two years. She advised women

who develop sores during breast-feeding to consult with doctors and or nurses for help. She explained a developmental milestone as a case where a baby as early as 2 months looks at mother, laughs or crawls. She said it is a phenomenon that shows up to some babies is still rare. She concluded by urging HIV positive mothers who take treatment to continue breast-feeding for a minimum of six months.

BY BENNY MALULEKA & MOTLA NTSHANAGovernment always urge partnership between private sectors in order to make our nation a better place. Some who are responding to this call is P&L Hardware that took place this month when members of ANC were invited to these stores namely in Kopanong and Temba City branches. The retail outlets were turned yellow and green of the ANC when they were hanging the portrait of the SA first democratic president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.Daniel Mkhavitu store Retail Operational Manager highlighted the importance of continuing celebrating the legacy of Madiba as he sacrificed his life for the freedom of South Africans. We find it appropriate to insure that we have Madiba’s portraits in our stores as we are also part of the community. Lillian Masaga store manager told the members of ANC that as private sectors they also celebrate the life of Tata Madiba.Shimmy Makhubela, Ward 75 ANC Election Co-ordinator told attendees of the events that some people have died haven’t yet

participated in voting for the democratic elections so we must appreciate that we have taken part several times since the first elections. He emphasised that as the ANC they want to insure that the country moves forward through the partnership with community to accelerate development to insure all people enjoy the benefit of democracy. Ward 75 councillor Jane Makgato said that she wish other stores would follow example of P&L and thanked their effort. She further said that as the ruling party they intend continuing the struggle Madiba left.In Kopanong Ms Joyce of ANCWL and a member of Parliament told Hammanskraal News that the struggle is not yet over as women still face many challenges compared to men. She further said that even after20 years in democracy women are still marginalised in employment. The women place is no longer in the kitchen women need to take on leadership positions the same as men explained her. She further said women must take part in making decisions because they make decisions any way in their lives. Ms Joyce mentioned that

in the past people were not as free as they are, and should appreciate men like Dr Mandela and many more who fought for these good freedom that we are experiencing today.

I know Mamphela as a principled, fiercely determined person who loves her country deeply and devotes her life to the cause of making democracy work, said DA leader Helen Zille during a media briefing on Tuesday 28 January. The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced that they had approached Dr Mamphela with an invitation to stand as the party’s presidential candidate during the 2014 elections. The AGANG leader accepted the invitation stating that both organisations were to put together their strengths and their reach to take full advantage of this historic moment. The move by the DA and AGANG comes at a critical point in South Africa while all parties prepare their election efforts. A couple of weeks back EFF leader Julius Malema and IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi smoked the proverbial peace-pipe in a move which resulted in the two leaders agreeing to allow campaigning in strong holds without any interferences. In her statement Mamphela said, “this partnership will bring us closer to the country of our dreams. Together we will continue to work to transcend social division and the marginalisation of poor people. We will work to protect women and youth in our communities. Together we will ensure working hospitals and schools, hold the corrupt accountable, create a professional public service, and ensure leaders serve the people”.Judging by the comments on social media platforms this move accepted, many arguing that Mamphela represented hope and proof of a transforming DA.

Citizens will be heading to the polling station this year to vote for the parties of their choice during the elections.Jane Aphane, of IEC Temba says that they are busy with voter education at various places to encourage citizens to go and register for this year upcoming national elections. She added that the improved areas have been the first time voters they have seen an increase of 5% and other include individuals who have relocated as they now have reregister at places where they are now staying.According to Aphane the number that have improved is individuals who have inspection those who have already registered and wanting to check if their names still appears on the voters’ roll. She further said that they also continue to conduct Door to Door campaign which communities are taught about voter education which institution are free to arrange with IEC if they need our services.Aphane urged the community to take this matter serious and go in numbers between February 8 and 9 for the final registration around the country so that they can able to vote. “Your vote speaks for you, you don’t want people to speak for you what you don’t wish. So it is better to go and register ans check if you are registered.” Said Aphane. Petal box installed on a car while the client waitsMost South Africans find it hard to make ends meet as there is lack of employment opportunities however they are encouraged to create jobs.

Some use their education to survive while some use

talents in order to put bread on their table. Isaac Masango is unemployed father of two sons who reside in Chris Hani in Hammanskraal. Masango says that has been trained as a welder but he concentrate on ensuring that motorists don’t lose their cars. Masango designed what he calls petal box and petal lock. These equipments protects vehicles from being stolen. He says his innovation gives the motorists peace of mind because thieves

will not be able to start the cars, because it is obvious that if you can’t access the petals then you cannot drive the car.He told Hammanskraal News that he has already fitted these products to local car owners and they are extremely happy and satisfied. He added that even those who have tracker, feels much safer with these products installed in their cars. Masango has been working with welding works since 1990.

He toldHammanskraal News that he cannot work as a welder because he is disabled. He has an artificial leg and that does not put him down. He focuses on designing these products because he feels very sorry for car owners who spend a lot of money to buy cars and have them stolen at the end of the day. His love for cars has inspired him to develop these products. He believes when you buy a car you buy it for keeps not to be stolen.

A intelligent disabled man, brings hope to Hammanskraal car owners
