A Corporate Landmark for Sustainable Value Creation

Inaugurated in 1998, the Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award was conducted by Teleos in association with the
KNOW network every year. It consists of the annual Global MAKE Award and similar studies at regional/national levels including
Asia, Europe, India, Indonesia, Japan and North America. The winners of the Global MAKE Award are selected by an expert panel
comprising of business executives from Fortune 500 companies, leading knowledge management practitioners as well as
intellectual capital experts.
The Hong Kong MAKE Award was firstly introduced in 2008 and hosted by the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research
Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The purpose of this award is not just to acknowledge the commitment in
Knowledge Management (KM), but also to bring public recognition to those organisations that have achieved outstanding
performance in KM practices.
1. Recognition and Publicity
• ThisawardprovidespublicrecognitionforthewinnerswithastrongcommitmentintheimplementationofKnowledge
Management.
2. Performance Evaluation
• Theprocessofpreparingforthesubmissionhelpstheorganisationtoidentifyitsstrengthsandareasforimprovementin
Knowledge Management. Furthermore, the internal analysis and external feedback from the MAKE evaluation panel, which
consists of the most experienced KM experts, can benefit strategic planning on process improvement of the organisation’s
KM activities.
3. Management Commitment
• Thisawardcanraisethelevelofmanagement’scommitmentandengagementingoodKnowledgeManagementpractices,
as well as boost the confidence of the staff through formal recognition for their efforts and achievements.
4. Participation in the Asian MAKE Award 2016
• TheTop3WinnersoftheHongKongMAKEAward2016willautomaticallybequalifiedtobethefinalistsoftheAsianMAKE
Award 2016, which is a higher level of Teleos’ MAKE Award for the Asian Organisations.
Any organisation with an operation in Hong Kong is eligible to apply. The applicant’s name (i.e. the name of the organisation) stated
in the application form will be the name to be displayed in the supplement/website/other printed materials as an announcement
of the award/participant list.
Applicants should complete the application online and enclose a KM report covering its KM activities and outcomes taking place
in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award 2016
Over the past 8 years, the Hong Kong MAKE Award has attracted organizations from different sectors to participate in the
Award, including government departments, accounting firm, public utilities, construction, manufacturing, catering services,
telecommunication and pharmacy, etc. Joining this global KM Award has raised the KM standard of local organizations to an
international level. Architectural Services Department of HKSAR Government, Arup, Hong Kong Police Force and EY (Hong
Kong) were awarded as winners of the Global MAKE Independent Operating Unit (IOU) Award.
Since 2015, the Knowledge Management and Innovation Research Centre have hosted the Asian Knowledge Forum alongside
with the Asian MAKE Award Presentation Ceremony to bring top knowledge organizations to Hong Kong.
The Asian MAKE Award Presentation Ceremony was for the second time being held in Hong Kong.
Over the past years, winners of Hong Kong MAKE Award, including Architectural Services Department of HKSAR Government, Arup, CCC Heep Woh College, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, EY (Hong Kong), Hong Kong Police Force, Hong Kong Productivity Council, Hong
Kong Red Cross, Langham Place Mongkok, MTR Corporation as well as The Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Ltd. (Towngas) have been awarded as Asian MAKE Award winners. Three
Hong Kong organizations were awarded as winners of the Global Independent Operating Unit (IOU) MAKE Award in 2015.

Hong Kong Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award 2016A panel of well-known senior business executives and leading knowledge management experts will be formed to select the
winners of the Hong Kong MAKE Award 2016.
The organisation once applied will go through two rounds of evaluation. In the first round, the panel will assess the KM
competence level of the organisation with reference to the eight knowledge performance dimensions listed below. The short-
listed orgnisations will enter the second round of evaluation and be invited to conduct a case presentation to the panel who will

1. Creating an enterprise knowledge-driven culture
2. Developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership
3. Delivering knowledge-based products/services/solutions
4. Maximizing the intellectual capital of the organisation
5. Creating and sustaining an environment of knowledge sharing
6. Creating and sustaining an enterprise culture of continuous learning
7. Delivering value based on customer knowledge
8. Managing knowledge to generate shareholder (or societal) value
