Mohammed started his career with GCAA in 2006 as an Air Traffic Control Officer Trainee and completed his training in 2009 where he worked as an Air Traffic controller. Mohammed has completed On the Job Training Instructor course and operational supervisor course in 2014, performed supervisory duties for 2 years and then joined the Research and Dataset team in late 2016 as a Senior Research and Dataset Officer. Today Mohammed is involved in multiple projects including the Next Generation Air Traffic Management System and leading the AI development team.

Mohammed Abdul Bari hold B.Sc in Aviation and pursuing his MSc. in Aviation Safety Management from City University of London, is currently working for Air Accident Sector in General Civil Aviation Authority as Air Accident Investigator and Project Manager for Investigator Smart Manager Software Application Development Project and Damaged Flight Recorders Capability Enhancement Project. Formerly contributed in the formation of Aviation Investigation Bureau –Saudi Arabia, established Flight Recorders Laboratory and developed Aviation Occurrence Tracking System (AOTS) software application which is currently in use. He is a qualified ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP) Auditor (AIG) which complemented in implementing compliance of ICAO AIG standards. During his previous experience with Saudi Arabian Airlines as Manager Safety and Security Data Research, he has implemented Safety Reporting System (AQD), Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) System, Safety Management System and IATA Operations Safety Audit (IOSA) Certification. He gained qualification for Safety Management Systems (SMS) train the trainer and actively participated in IOSA audits.

During an aviation occurrence, Investigators are involved to identify the root cause when a failure occurs in an aircraft that had an impact on safety of passengers or operations of an aircraft. Investigators’ have to understand the complexity of multiple systems that sometimes are interdependent and may function simultaneously to identify the root cause. Modern techniques and tools are being develop to support training for such complex systems.

The aviation industry is utilizing augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence for systems failure analysis and training proficiency skills in various sectors such as Air Traffic Services and Management, Aircraft Simulator training, Flight Crew Safety training and training in Aircraft Maintenance and the sophisticated training methods are not limited to these areas.

Eng. Shaima Alkamali works as a Specialist - Policy and Regulation at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) since 2015. In addition to her responsibility in rule making and the establishment of rules, regulations and standards, Shaima plays a vital role in handling drone related matters. She took part in developing the drone regulation and simplification of registration process. She conducted several internal and external workshops for drone users and industry highlighting key issues on drone usage, operations and associated risks. She as well performed the first GCAA oversight activity on drones’ operator holding Unmanned Aircraft Operator Authorisation (UOA).

The objective of the session is to spread awareness about the risk of using unauthorised drone in the UAE and highlight the importance of adhering to the rules and conditions established by the GCAA to ensure safe and legal operation of drone activities. The audience will be introduced to the technical specification of using the drones in the UAE for both category (recreational/ professional) and the required process that need to be followed by individual and organization. It will also cover sanctions of violating the GCAA law and regulation in operating the drones. During the session the flying zone map will be explained and demonstrated for the audience and will urge drones’ users to download the smart phone application “My Drone Hub” that helps them fly the drone legally in the UAE.

Mr. Mohammad Athar Shams started his career in the aviation industry as an Air Traffic Controller. During his career he worked at various air traffic control units in Pakistan as an air traffic controller and as an on job training instructor. He also has sufficient experience in airport management. He joined UAE General Civil Aviation Authority in 2011 as Senior Safety Risk Specialist. He has been conducting safety trend analysis and risk assessments on significant aviation safety incidents. He is also responsible for the development of safety promotional materials addressing significant aviation safety issues. He also developed and implemented the VORSY online management system. The system facilitates the secure, efficient and centralized processing of the reports received in the Voluntary Reporting System. He is also a member of the UAE National Runway Safety Team.
