EYP Letter ‘I’ Activity—Playgroup

As the Playgroup learners are learning about the

letter ‘I Friends’ they did a Craft activity of making

an Ice-cream Cone with little vibrant pom-poms

and colourful wool. This was a fun-filled learning

experience for our tiny tots and was thoroughly

enjoyed by all of them.

Introduction to Number ‘5’ - Nursery

Nursery learners were introduced

to the Number ‘5’ through a story

in which they learnt about five best

friends who visited a Circus called

“Fun-Five”. The number ‘5’ was

emphasised in this story so that it

gets engraved in our ‘little

wonder’s’ minds and this way they

got familiarised with this number.

The story made their learning

experience very interesting.

EYP Balloon splatter art by K1 – Paint like Pollock— PLAY WITH PAINTS

Jackson Pollock is one of the best modern art artist of all times. He was known for innovative drip, splash

and pour styles of painting. Pollock began experimenting with liquid paints and he worked with

household paints rather than artist quality paints. He was famous for action paintings on huge canvases.

As the K1 learners are inquiring in to the unit ‘We play to express our feelings and ideas in order to come

to new understandings’ under the theme ‘How we express ourselves’ they played with paints by dipping

water balloons in different paint colours and splashed them on a huge canvas to create the effect like

Jackson Pollock. Learners truly had a gala time indulging themselves in this creative form of play through

art. They expressed thorough enthusiasm while creating the splatter balloon art.

EYP Life Cycle of a Butterfly—K2 A

As the students of K2 A are inquiring into the ongoing UOI they took part in an exciting and informative

activity conducted in the Craft Class. Through this activity our kids learnt more about the Central Idea of

this Unit, ‘All Things Go Though A Process Of Change.’ They used small Cotton Balls to portray a

Caterpillar and their most favourite food items like a few flakes of Puffed Rice, a Shell and a Bowtie

shaped Pastas to represent Eggs, a Pupa and a Butterfly, respectively on leaves made of green paper

stuck on a paper plate that depicted the changes and growth in the life of a Butterfly. This activity proved

to be quite intriguing and fascinating for our kids that helped them to inquire and recap their knowledge

of their ongoing Unit.

Using Pasta shaped as a sea shells and a bowtie, We learnt the Life Cycle of a beautiful Butterfly

Media Literacy is the ability to Access, Analyze, Evaluate, Communicate and Create using all forms of

communication. This week helps to highlight the power of education through media and its essential

PYP PYP Celebrates Media Literacy Day

“Media Balance and Well-Being” In today’s time, we are all surrounded by various forms of media like newspapers, magazines, internet, different applications, billboards, TV, radio, video games, computer games, and etc. Hence it is important to look carefully at news and media. We need to balance our media use. In order to throw light on this, a session was carried out by Ms Shreya Mudaliar, an IT expert in RBKIA. She talked about media literacy, different types of media, tools used in media and how media shapes our culture. She also mentioned about how one needs to be careful about the authenticity of the information received through any media. It was a new learning for the Grade 3 students. They were intrigued throughout the session. Students were actively participating in giving their viewpoint on the topic. Later students were given a hand out, in which they were supposed to record their media choice in their daily routine (for ex-TV, Apps, Games) and its usage for a particular week. The idea behind this activity was to think critically about the information they receive through media and act responsibly for the same. The session summed up by discussing the IB attitudes connected to this topic. The session sensitised that, for anybody to use any form of media, one must be a thinker in order to analyze and interpret the information correctly and also responsible for the information they pass on to others. The session was extremely informative and students had a wonderful time acquiring knowledge about media literacy.

PYP PYP Celebrates Media Literacy Day

Media Literacy Week highlights the

importance of teaching children and

teens digital and media literacy skills

to ensure their interactions with

media are positive and enriching. At

RBKIA we celebrated Media Literacy

Day on 6th December. Ms. Shriya

Datar, our ICT teacher came to Grade

4 to talk about blog and how it can be

used to publish their work. It was

really interesting and engaging for the

students.

Later as a class activity, students

played games where they researched

on logos of different brands and how

they came into being and what they

really meant. Students even created

logos and had an interactive session

with Mr. Lumumba as they explained

to him how they created logos that

connected to their spheres. This was

a real sight to see as pride shone on

their faces as they talked about their

creation.

PYP PYP Celebrates Media Literacy Day

Keeping in line with the fact that Media Literacy Day highlights the importance of teaching children digital and media literacy skills to ensure their interactions with media are positive and enriching, Grade 5 invited a guest speaker, Mr. Abhisekh Devkar, who is working as a film director at Artha Cinema. He had an interesting interactive session with the students of how a film is planned to the finishing of the film. The whole process, the apparatus used, the cast crew involved was discussed with the students. The most interesting part of the session was when the students were shown the drone that is used while shooting shots for a film. The media literary day was well integrated into the unit HWWO. It was a great learning experience for the students.

PYP Guest speaker session – Grade 3

The students of Grade 3 are currently inquiring on

Migration under the theme ‘Where we are in Place and

Time’. To inquire further, they had a guest speaker, Mr

Ronak Shah, who discussed with them about the effects

of migration with time. They further inquired about how

migration has positive effects on not only places but also

on the geography of different places and how the

communities have been inspired due to the presence of

different cultures. They connected how different

individuals, who have migrated from their home

country, have made an influence to the society. He also

talked over how migration has had positive and negative

effects on different places across the globe. The

PowerPoint presentation added like a special condiment

which gave a unique flavour to the session. It was a very interactive session with Mr Shah and the

students acquired additional information about the effects of migration.

PYP MANGLISH GAMES: Grade 4 A & B

Students worked in groups as they created games that integrated English and Math thus named it

Manglish. Some of the questions that students came up with were challenging and interesting. The

creativity was at its peak as they used their imagination and creativity crafted their games. Coming up

with rules to play the game was a challenge to some groups but they worked cooperatively and

overshadowed the challenge. Making logos, naming their groups, making badges and thinking of giving

giveaways to the winners was all chalked out well by each group. Way to go!!!

MYP/DP Design Unit Initiated Service Activity – Grade 7

On 8th August, 2018 Grade 7 began a new unit on “Importance of Life Skills”. This unit enabled us students to convince the target audience and learn various new skills. For this unit, we were divided in groups and made videos on life skills. The main reason we chose to present it to our juniors was because we realised that younger generation needed to learn life skills at young age in order to avoid problems when they grow up, such as bullying, racism, inequality, etc. We did extensive research on how we could make young children learn life skills. We soon came to a conclusion that sports were the best way to make a kid develop the skills. We prepared skits to present as videos. Towards the end, due some difficulties, we weren’t able to create a video but chose to present a PPT instead. The outcome of the entire project was better than expected. We presented the PPT to Grade 3 students who enjoyed and seemed to love various sports already! Our presentation made them aware how playing sports is important not only for physical development but also for their overall development. Hopefully, our other juniors are inspired and interested to continue their liking of sports for their entire life! By Tania Salaskar and Vaniishaa Saxena Grade 7 Making the PPT and presenting it to our juniors was fun, and also a learning experience. We became more aware of daily issues, and also prepared the students to face the future they await. Through this we improvised on many ATL skills such as social skills, research skills, critical thinking skills and also creative thinking skills .Through this we also developed International Mindedness, through global-engagement, multilingualism, and intercultural understanding. While doing this activity we improvised on the learner profiles; thinker, inquirer, open minded, knowledgeable and caring. Overall, it was a fun and great learning experience.
