LEADING LEARNING

COMMUNITIES: Standards for What

Principals Should

Know and Be Able to Do

12

PRINCIPAL STANDARDS

Standard One: Lead schools in a way that places student and adult learning at the center.

Standard Two: Set high expectations and standards for the academic, social, emotional and physical development of all students.

Standard Three: Demand content and instruction that ensure student achievement of agreed-upon standards.

Standard Four: Create a culture of continuous learning for adults tied to student learning and other school goals.

Standard Five: Manage data and knowledge to inform decisions and measure progress of student, adult and school performance.

Standard Six: Actively engage the community to create shared responsibility for student performance and development.

14

Considerations for Change • Importance of human

relations • Support and care required

for students to excel • Focus on human potential • Ethical standards • Future-oriented perspective

on a changing world

Principal Standards Alignment

• Principal Evaluations

• NAESP Standards

• PSEL 2015

• State Standards

• Others

15

• Standard Five: Manage data and knowledge to inform decisions and measure progress of student, adult and school performance.

Issue: My fourth grade team of 3 teachers have not reached levels of competency for their students for 2 years with the state tests. They have data on standardized tests but do not seem to be able to put it into actionable steps to make improvement. I need help from my mentor on what to do with next.

Triad: Each triad has a mentor, protégé, and observer. Use the techniques of pause, paraphrase, and probe to help you understand the situation and help your protégé begin to problem-solve.
