Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was established in 1945 as Mahindra &Mohammed. Later on, after the partition of India, one of the partners -Ghulam Mohammad - returned to Pakistan, where he became FinanceMinister. As a result, the company was renamed to Mahindra & Mahindra in1948.
M&M started its operation as a manufacturer of general-purpose utilityvehicles. It assembled CKD jeeps in 1949.
Apart from agricultural tractors and LCVs, Mahindra & Mahindra alsoshowed its dexterity in manufacturing army vehicles.

FINANCIAL STATUS OF MAHINDRA
M&Ms net profit in Third- quarter in FY 2008-09 by over 99%, to Rs. 11.96million, from Rs. 4.05 billion in Q3, FY 2007-08.
M&Ms total income for Q3 decreased to Rs. 25.62 billion, from Rs. 29.8 billion in theyear ago period.

December 2008, M&Ms net profit touched Rs. 5.8 Billion as against Rs. 6.52billion in the year ago period.
The sales of mechanized utility vehicles (MUVs) for the quarter stood at 39,919 units( 2007) against 31,171 units (2006) of the same period last year, an increase of over21.6 percent.
The export of vehicles increased by 31 percent to 3,187 units during the April-Junequarter.(2009)

Mr. Anand G. Mahindra, Vice Chairman and Managing Director ofMahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
He is one of Indias largest and most respected business persongraduated from Harvard College, Cambridge.
In 1981 he secured an MBA degree from the Harvard BusinessSchool, Boston.
He returned to India that year and joined Mahindra Steel CompanyLtd and in 1989 he was appointed President and Deputy ManagingDirector of the company.
