Announcements 1. We invite every church member to the time of
Prayer, every Wednesday 7 pm. A Prayer Group is also meeting at North London Church every Wednesday morning 10am-12noon. You have an option of “shifts” to come and interceded for our church family, for our city, for leaders. We have seen miraculous answers to prayer, and experienced the goodness of God, connecting to His Mystery and presence in prayer.
2. Baptismal service today at 2:30 pm at our facility. Right after the fellowship lunch we invite you to return for the celebration of Commitment to follow Jesus. Leanne Pelissero will be baptized by Pastor Rudy Alvir.
3. Table Tennis league is starting in our recreation hall. If interested in participating, building friendships, getting exercise, (showing your competitive character traits ) speak to Ajit Gaikwad or Don Topper. A schedule of games will be announced.
4. Next Men’s ministry breakfast and discussion of “Wild at Heart” book will be May 15th at our fellowship hall at 8:30 am. We are in Chapter 5. Next meetings will take place on June 12th.
5. To all leaders of Praise. Next Sabbath right after worship a short session is called by the pastor to address your ministry. The time of praise is like a runway for the worship takeoff. We need to make sure that all people get the “lift” and the Word is blessed, and your role is the vital one here. On May 14 we will meet for a brief 25-30 minutes session. The Worship Committee emphasizes the aspect of preparation, both spiritual and logistic, as the key for leading.
6. The A/V department is seeking the donation of a good (working) laptop and camcorders... If you have either of these items gathering dust in your home, please consider donating them to assist in your church's media mission! Thank-you!
7. Next “Restful Sabbath” for fellowship and relationship building, with no meetings of any kind (not even the Sabbath School Council) will be on May 21. Many had enjoyed the opportunity to invite friends over for lunch, to go for a walk in the park last Sabbath. Once every month we set a day for purposes of generous hospitality. June 18, July 23, August 20, October 22, November 26 are reserved for these purposes. On these Sabbaths please plan to invite someone to your home, or plan to go and visit someone in their place.
8. 2011 is the Year of Mission. TOPNIGHT! at 6 pm pastor Alex will present the Secular European challenge, reaching out to post-Christian, postmodern in European and North-American context. We have covered already the history, theology of mission, worldview differences, and Adventist Global perspective. Through the summer we will address practical ways of inviting people from different backgrounds to discover God’s Plan of Salvation in Christ. Remember, Mission is not optional for a healthy Adventist church.
9. Mother’s Day and CHIP Graduation Potluck today, May 7th. Everyone please stay and celebrate with us as we honor mothers and rejoice in the success of our CHIP graduates. Please bring an item from the section of the first letter of your last name. Note that we will change the categories each month. Feel free to bring additional items from any category.

10. Family Day at Springbank Park Sunday, May 29th. Please bring your picnic lunch and outdoor games. More details to follow next week.
11. Constituency Meeting regarding school will be on May 14th from 7pm to 8pm at the church. Please come and support your local church school!
12. Our church will be camping at Dalewood Conservation Area on Friday June 3rd to Sunday afternoon, June 5th. There is still room to sign up, so please talk to Don Topper or any member of the Social Life Committee for more information if you are interested. We should be getting some nice sunny warm weather by then!
13. Marriage Banns THIRD publishing! Gordon Louis and Shelley Lynn Pelissero, parents of Leanne Alexandra Pelissero and William Walter James and Carolyn Lavina Dowdell, parents of Nathan William George Dowdell are joyfully announcing the marriage of their children on July 31st 2011. If any of you know cause or just impediment, any reason in law why these two persons should not be joined together in Holy Matrimony, ye are to declare it.
14. VBS, it’s almost that time again and we are looking for volunteers to work as leaders and assistant leaders. VBS this year is on July 18 – 22 for children ages 4-12 from 5:30-8 pm. If you can help; please contact: Doris Van Leeuwen @ (519) 452-7073. Thank You.

Pastor’s Blog. On Mother’s Day
My kids are asking me: how come the Mother’s Day is not a statutory holiday and a long weekend?! I wondered “Why?” and their reply was simple: we want mom to stay home with us an extra day! WOW!
Last year Dwight Nelson asked “how much is your mother worth?” in his blog. Other blogs on Mother’s day remind us that behind this celebrative occasion is a sad and tragic story.
The modern version of Mother’s Day began in the early 20th century. It started as a memorial service on the second Sunday in May of 1907, held by Anna Jarvis for her mother Ann Marie Reeves, who passed in 1905, at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, VA. The mourners present received a white carnation, which had been Ann Marie’s favourite flower. Anna organized another one a year later, and this service is generally accepted as the first official Mother’s Day event (1908).
Ann Marie Reeves was a social activist, born in 1832 through the years of the Civil War, doing community service and fundraising for mothers with tuberculosis. Eight of her 12 offspring died before reaching adulthood. Despite her personal tragedies, she never stopped her community service.
Just a few years later, by 1912, Anna Jarvis was upset to see the Mother’s Day being exploited by the flower, stationary and candy industries. For it was not meant to be just a day of appreciation, but the day of helping mothers to change the community. Yet, the “creator” of this even herself missed the point. She became a “party crusher.” She wanted to claim the day as her intellectual and legal property, preventing others to do Mother’s Day events in 1920s in New York and Pennsylvania. She eventually was committed to an asylum where she died, penniless, without a family, never becoming a mother herself.
Some historians point back to 1600s where in England on the fourth Sunday of Lent was an annual “Mothering Sunday,” an opportunity for Christians to visit their hometown church. It slowly evolved, as children working far away as domestic servants came back home to spend time with their mothers and family.
So, don’t miss the meaning of the day – it is not about feministic assertion of women’s right and rule, it is not about flowers and trinkets. It is another opportunity to honour motherhood, co-creators of humanity with God, co-redeemers of mankind through the care of the Seed for the Saviour. It all goes back to Eve (Hava in Hebrew) – the mother of all living.
