S&CC Rebates

To provide additional support to Singaporean

households with their cost of living, the government will provide S&CC rebates in 2015 which will benefit about 800,000 HDB households.

1 and 2 room flats will enjoy 3 full month of rebates in April, July and October 2015 3 and 4 room flats will have 1 full month rebate in April and half month rebates in July and October 2015

5 room flats will have half month rebates in April, July and October 2015 Executive flats will have half month rebates in April and July 2015

To be eligible for the S&CC rebate, the household has to meet the following requirements:

a) There must be at least one Singapore citizen lessee or occupier in the flat.

b) The lessee(s) and es-sential occupier(s) of the flat do not own or have any interest in a private property.

c) The lessee(s) have not sublet the whole flat.

If you are paying for your S&CC through GIRO, no action is required on your part to enjoy the rebates.

Making a differenceA shelter constructed with resi-

dents in mind can make a whole lot of difference when one comes face to face with inclement weather. Ms Foo, a resident at Block 434B Fernvale Road has this to say to our Town Council,

“Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to thank you for building the shelter to link Fernvale Grove to Fernvale Residence. It rained heavily on 29 March and we used the shelter. We were dry when we got to the LRT station. Thank you, I really appreciate your effort.”

Enthusiastic gardeners in the town often come together through the

RC to set up a community garden with more space and facilities with which to grow things.

horticultural team first meets with the gardeners and RC to pick a suitable site. Then, the team finds out what sort of garden is wanted, and helps the gardeners plan the layout of the garden. They also give advice on

which plants would be good to grow.After a lot of planning, the garden is

built, and handed to the RC. It’s up to the gardeners how well their garden grows – but there’s no replacement for hard work.

An NRP for Hougang Avenue 8Residents staying around Blocks 633

to 662 Hougang Avenue 8 will soon get to enjoy and use the newly con-structed improvements from the recent Neighbourhood Renewal Programme,

set to be completed by August.

The redevelopment of the existing hardcourt will add a gazebo and trellis.

Some of the new developments include a new gateway, a revamped timber deck area and a new tensile structure decked over the existing hardcourt that acts as a shelter against harsh weather.

These improvement works are materialised through the consensus of majority votes by residents, and the hard work and coordination of the RCs, Town Council and other agencies involved.

Taking care of bees-ness

The Ang Mo Kio Town Council received feedback

of bees flying into a flat at the top floor in Cheng San Zone B. Despite

clearing a few hives nearby, the problem persisted and the property team had to search for the source. They even went up to the roof to search for hives!

The source of the bees was finally found outside the unit, and a pest con-troller was called to eradicate the bees. After months of worry, the residents of the unit were relieved and thankful that the problem was solved.

every ten years. This is crucial to pre-vent water seeping through the ceilings of homes, and periodic inspections are done to ensure this.

Rodent activities are always a chal-lenge, but the Ang Mo Kio Town

Council takes swift action whenever rats are spotted, to keep the estates safe and hygienic.

In February, the Town Council engaged a licensed pest controller to treat rat-infested bin chutes, central refuse chutes and bin centres across the town. After two months of surveil-lance, 211 rat burrows were detected and treated, and 91 carcasses were disposed of.

Wherever possible, the Town Council tries to keep estates rodent-free through the sealing of cracks or holes in floors, walls, ceiling, partitions and doors, and the use of rodent proof-ing covers.

Proper housekeeping and storage and disposal of food goes a long way to keeping rats away. They won’t go where there’s nothing to eat. And keeping the common areas clear of clutter makes sure they have no place to hide, either.

Working together, we can make the rats get out – and stay out!

鼠患永远是个挑战，但宏茂桥市镇理事会一发现鼠踪，即立刻采取行

动，使住宅区安全卫生。　今年2月，市镇理事会聘请了一家领有

执照的虫害控制公司来处理市镇内有鼠患的垃圾槽、中央垃圾槽及垃圾收集中心。经过两个月的监察与行动，该公司总共发现并处理了211个鼠洞和91只死老鼠。

市镇理事会尽可能透过修补地板、墙壁、天花板、隔板和门等处的缝隙以及采用防鼠盖来使区内住宅区免于鼠患。不过，他们需要每一个人的合作才能产生效果。正当的地方清理和食物的储存与丢弃方法，对防止鼠患极为有效。老鼠们不会跑到没有食物的地方。此外，保持公共地方没有杂物堆积，定能确保老鼠们无藏身之处。

同心协力，我们定能赶走老鼠，使他们销声匿迹！

held on 3 May and organized by the Public Hygiene Council, Singapore Kindness Movement and Keep Singapore Beautiful Movement. Through the operation, volunteers gathered to pick up litter in nearly 70 precincts across the island.

In Ang Mo K io, adv ise r fo r Sengkang West, Dr Lam Pin Min,

and adviser for Kebun Baru, Mr Inderjit Singh, joined the volunteers in picking up litter at the Palmview estate, where they collected a total of 130kg of litter!

After the exercise, food was served to the volunteers by the advisers and RC members, while the cleaners, who had the day off, were given vouchers and lucky draw prizes in appreciation.

“We participated in the “Operation We Clean Up 2015” by asking our cleaners not to sweep the whole of Palm View RC, 13 blocks in all. I was saddened to see some much of rubbish strewn all over the estate.

We saw cigarettes butts, tissue papers and sweet wrappers every-where. It is not an easy task to clean when the litter is so widespread. We appreciate the effort put in by our cleaners every day to clear the rubbish thrown by residents.

I wish residents will take more personal responsibility by disposing all rubbish in proper bins and don’t take it for granted that someone else is going to clean up after them. “

Festivals organised by the People's Association’s Community Sports Clubs also encouraged residents to dress in red T-shirts and be a part of the 28th SEA Games through meaningful shared experiences.


Together with grassroots leaders of the caring cluster and staff from the Town

Council, Mr Seng Han Thong, Adviser to Yio Chu Kang, visited the National Kidney Foundation’s Dialysis Centre at Block 633 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 to assess the feasibility of setting up a wheelchair holding area outside the centre.

More wheelchair-bound patients had been seeking treatment at the

centre lately. As a result, the entrance of the centre had become a holding area for wheelchairs.

The management of the centre pro-posed to set up a proper holding area for wheelchairs outside the centre to ease congestion at the entrance. Grassroots leaders were in support of the design concept after deliberations with staff from the Town Council and NKF.

Ang Mo Kio Town Centre has been voted, through

the URA’s “Pick a Bench, Pick a Place” programme, as one of the public places in Singapore to have more (and special!)seating.

These two new benches will provide welcome relief for pedestrians and help to enliven and activate our public spaces. Uniquely designed, they’re made from the wooden planks from the former National Stadium – a meaningful way to commemorate this historic landmark.


In March, the Town Council coor-dinated with PUB and Anderson

Secondary School in a joint mural painting project to promote Water Day Awareness. The project was held in conjunction with SG50 celebrations for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Sengkang West SMC. These colourful paintings were completed on 19 March 2015 in estates across the town, bringing home the importance of conserving water – and with information on how to do it!

Meet the People Sessions


You might have seen one of these billboards supporting our SEA Games athletes around the town. Before the SEA Games began, four of these sporting stars told us about the sport they love.

I started running when I was around primary five when the school's coach told me to sign up for track and field as a CCA after he watched

me run during sports day and I've loved running since. I train Monday's to Saturday's and for the past couple of months I have been training at the Kallang practice track with my teammates Dipna, Naqib, Calvin Kang, Poh Seng Song, Gary Yeo and Elfi.

My parents used to bowl recreationally

at Orchid Country Club as they were members. They bowl there every Friday night and I would tag along with them. That was when and how I picked up bowling.

I picked up the sport play-ing at Ci Yuan green

park, which is just behind my house. The community and residents play at the park daily. I wanted to hone my skills, hence I went to the Petanque National Sporting Association at Toa Payoh, which is where I practise now to pre-pare for the coming SEA Games.

I was interested in Tennis when I was back in ITE Balestier, but the school then

did not have Tennis as a CCA. I was then scouted by the fencing coach to try out the sport. That was when it all started. I train mainly with the national team, and sometimes the fencing club members. However, I would love to fence with begin-ners to inspire them and help them hone their skills. As a senior, I want to pass it forward and help them as much as I can.
