O Christ God, with the saints grant rest to the soul

of your servant, in a place where there is no pain,

no grief, no sighing, but everlasting life.

For you are the Resurrection and the Life, and the

repose of your departed servant, O Christ our God,

and we give glory to You, together with your

eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-

giving spirit, now and always and forever and ever.

At The Funeral Home Known Trisaghion’s prayer

The people stand. In the presence of the body, the priest puts on his stole;

and putting incense in the censer, he incenses the dead saying:

Priest: Blessed is our God at all times, now and always and

forever and ever.

Choir: Amen.

Reader: Holy God. Holy Mighty One. Holy Immortal One.

Have mercy on us. (Three times)

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the

Holy Spirit.

Now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, forgive us

our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy

One, look upon us and heal our infirmities for your name’s sake.

"In the beginning, you made man in your image and likeness.

You placed him in paradise and gave him power over the

whole creation. But he was deceived by the devil and

transgressed your command by tasting of the forbidden fruit.

You sentenced him to return to that dust from which he had

been taken: wherefore we pray to you, O our God, to grant

peace and rest to the soul of your departed servant

(handmaid)."

"I weep and lament when I consider death, and when I think

of those who are laid in the grave. Where is now that moving

beauty created in the likeness of God? Where is the glorious

form? Oh, wonder: what happened that we are now delivered

up to corruption? And how did death come into our life? God

alone by his will and command has power to grant peace and

rest to our souls."

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our

trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil.

Priest: For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory,

of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and

always and forever and ever.

Choir: Amen.

Then the choir sings the following Troparia or Hymns (4th Tone)

1- With the just who have reposed in your peace grant rest,

O Saviour, to the soul of your servant and bestow upon it

the blessed life which is from you, O Lover of mankind.

2- Within your peace where all your saints repose, grant rest,

O Lord to the soul of your servant for you alone are the

lover of mankind.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

3- O Saviour, You are our God! You descended into Hades to

deliver those who were bound there in suffering; grant

rest also to the soul of this your departed servant.


4- O Mother of God, the only Virgin immaculate and pure, in

virginity you have given birth to Christ our God; intercede

with Him for the salvation of the soul of this your

departed servant.

Then the Priest incenses the bier saying the following Litany while the

choir responds on the two first petitions “Lord, have mercy” three times.

:اللحن الر ابعة؟ َأْيَن " َأْيَن ُهَو االهِتماُم ِبالعاَلم؟ َأْيَن التََّصوُُّر ِبالَوقِتيَّات؟ َأْيَن الذََّهُب والِفضَّ

ِمن َطبيَعة َمْنظوَرة وِغيِر َمْنظوَرة ، َأمَّا ِجسمي فَجَبْلَتُه ِمَن اأَلرض، وَأمَّا َنْفسي في (َأمَتَكَ )فِلذِلَك َأيُّها الَمسيُح، َأِرْح َعْبَدَك .فَوَهْبَتها لي ِبَنْفَخِتَك اإِللِهيَِّة الُمْحِييَّةدِّيقين ".َبْلَدِة اأَلْحياِء في َمساِكِن الصِّ

Tone 4

"Where are the affections of the world? Where are the vain

dreams of delight? Where is gold or silver? Where is the

multitude of servants and attendants? All is dust and ashes,

or a shadow that passes away. Brethren, let us then pray to

Christ our Immortal King and say, 'O Lord, grant your

blessings to your departed servant (handmaid), and give rest to

his (her) soul in your everlasting happiness in heaven'."

Tone 5

"Let us call to mind the words of the Prophet who said, 'I am

dust ashes." Let us also look at the graves, and at the bones

they contain. Is there a difference between king and beggar?

Where is the rich and where is the poor? Where is the just and

where is the sinner? O Lord our God, give rest to the soul of

your servant (handmaid) and number him (her) among the

just."

Tone 6

"O Lord my God, you have endowed me with two elements -

one visible and the other invisible. You have formed my body

from clay, and breathed into me from your divine breath. O

Christ our God, give rest to the soul of your servant

(handmaid) in the Kingdom of those who live forever and in

the company of the just."

Priest: Have mercy on us, O God, in your great mercy: we

pray you, hear us and have mercy.

Choir: Lord, have mercy (Three times).

Priest: Again, let us pray for the repose of the soul of the

departed servant of God (Name), and that to him (her) may

be remitted every transgression, both deliberate and

indeliberate. That the Lord God may grant his (her) soul to

rest where the just repose.


Priest: Let us ask the mercies of God, the kingdom of heaven,

and the forgiveness of his (her) sins through Christ, our

immortal King and God. Let us pray to the Lord.


Priest: For You are the Resurrection and life, the repose of

your departed servant (Name), O Christ our God, and

we give glory to you, together with your Eternal

Father and your all–holy, good and life-giving Spirit,

Celebrant: You are the only Immortal One, O Creator and

Maker of man. We are mortals; out of the earth we were

fashioned and to the same earth we shall return, as You

have said and ordered. O my Maker: "Dust you are”

said You, "and to dust you shall return".

Tone 1

"What pleasure is there in our life that is not mixed with

sorrow? What glory on earth that lasts? All are more fleeting

that shadow, and more deceitful than a dream! In one

moment death takes it all away. But you O Christ, in the light

of your face, in the beauty of your holiness, give peace to him

(her) you have chosen, for you are the lover of mankind."

Tone 2

"What struggle my soul will have to sustain when its time will

come to be separated from my body! What suffering I shall

have to endure alone! No one will be at hand to have mercy

on me. If I turn my eyes to angels, I will be pleading in vain. If

I stretch out my hands to my fellow men, I will find no one to

help. Beloved Brethren, let us then consider how short is our

life and look up to Christ who alone grants mercy and peace

We all go down to the dust and we sing to You:


Priest: O God of all spirits and all flesh, who have destroyed

death, overcome the devil, and given life to the

world: grant, O Lord, to the soul of your servant

(Name), who has departed from this life, to rest in a

place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of

peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing.

And since you are a gracious God and a Lover of

mankind, forgive every sin he (she) has committed by

thought, or word, or deed, for there is no one who

lives and does not sin. You alone are without sin,

your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is

Deliver me from bloodguilt, O God, O God of my salvation,

and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth your

praise.

For you take no delight in sacrifice; were I to give a burnt

offering, you would not be pleased.

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken

and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of

Jerusalem,

then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and

Psalm 50 (Prayer for pardon and forgiveness)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your merciful love;

according to your abundant mercy blot out my

transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from

my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done that which is

evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence

and blameless when you pass judgment.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my

mother conceive me.

Behold, you desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach

me wisdom in my secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I

Part Two

In The Church

When the body is brought to the church, the priest, preceded by the cross

bearer and two candle bearers, comes to the church door. He puts incense

into the censer and leading the procession into the church, he incenses

while chanting:

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One! Have

mercy on us.

After the bier is placed in its proper place and the candles are lit around

it, the priest intones:

Priest: Blessed is our God at all times, now and always and

forever and ever.

Choir: Amen. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! (3 times) it will be repeated after each Stikhon:

Stikhon 1: Blessed are those you have chosen and drawn near,

to the good things of your courts, O Lord, and be filled

with the good things of your house.

Stikhon 2: Their souls shall abide in abundance, and their

generation shall inherit the earth.

Stikhon 3: Their memory will remain forever and ever.

Part Three

At The Cemetery Before the body is laid in the grave, the priest says the same prayer for the

order of the burial of the dead at the Funeral home. And in its end, he puts

oil crosswise on the bier saying:

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof, the world

and all those who dwell therein. Then the priest takes some earth and throwing it crosswise on the casket

saying:

"Dust you are and to dust you shall return".

And then everyone departs, giving thanks to God for His divine plan.

Evloghitaria of the dead (Fifth Tone)

1- Blessed are you, O Lord: teach me your statues!

The choirs of saints have discovered the Fountain of

life and the Gate of Paradise; may I also, through

repentance find the way to you, O Lord. I am the lost

sheep: O Saviour, call me back to your fold and save

me.

2- Blessed are you, O Lord: teach me your statutes!

O Holy martyrs; who preached the Lamb of God and

like lambs were led to the slaughter and thus passed

on to eternal and everlasting life pray unceasingly that

our sins may be forgiven us.


All you who in this life have walked the narrow road

in sorrow and pain, and taken up your cross as a yoke,

and followed me faithfully, come now, enter the

rewards of heaven and receive the crowns I have

prepared for you.


I am the image of your ineffable glory, even though I

bear the wounds of sin. Look with compassion on your

mercy. In your loving kindness cleanse me restoring to

me the right of those who dwell in paradise for which I

long.


O Lord, who with your own hand fashioned me from

nothingness, and adorned me with your divine image,

and who, when I transgressed your commandment,

did cast down into the dust whereof I had been made:

I go before the Judge where there is no respect of

persons, where slave and master stand together, king

and soldier, rich and poor, in equal worthiness, for

each is glorified or shamed according to his deeds. But

I beg you all, and entreat you unceasingly, to pray to

Christ God for me, that I be not sent to the place of

torment on account of my sins, but that He may

appoint my lot where the light of life is shining.

The radiant angel standing within the tomb cried out to

the Myrrh bearers: “Why, O women Disciples, do you

mingle myrrh with your tears of pity? Look upon the

tomb and rejoice, for the Saviour has risen from the

dead”.


Very early in the morning, the Myrrh bearers ran

lamenting to Your tomb. But the angel stood by them and

said: “Do not weep, the time for lamenting has passed.

Announce the Resurrection to the Apostles”.


The Myrrh bearing women came with myrrh to Your

tomb, O Saviour, and heard the angel say to them: “Why

do you think that the Living One is among the dead? For

as God He has risen from the dead”.


We worship the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, the

Holy Trinity One in substance, and with the Seraphim

we cry out: "Holy, Holy, Holy are You, O Lord."


Since you gave birth to the Giver of Life, O Virgin, you

delivered Adam from sin, and you granted joy to Eve

instead of sadness, for He who took flesh from you, God

and Man, restored to life him who had gone astray.

Priest: Have mercy on us, O God, in your great mercy: we

departed servant of God (Name), and that to him (her) may be

.(بروسخومن)َفْلُنْصِغ :الكاهنإنَّ َمْن : الَحقَّ الَحقَّ أقوُل لكم: قال الرَّبُّ لّلذيَن أَتْوا إليِه من اليهود

يسمُع كالمي ويؤِمُن ِبَمْن أرسَلني، له الحياُة األبديَّة، وال يأتي : الَحقَّ الَحقَّ أقوُل لكم .َبْل قِد انتقَل من الموِت إلى الحياةلدينونة ،

ضرٌة، يسمُع فيها األمواُت صوَت إنَّها ستأتي ساعٌة، وهي اآلَن حاألنَّه كما أنَّ اآلَب له الحياُة في .يسمعوَن َيْحَيْون والذينَ . ابِن الل

ذاته وأعطاه ذاِته، كذلـك أعطى االبَن أْن تكوَن له الحيـاُة في بوا من هذا، ألنَّها .أْن ُيْجِرَي الُحْكَم، ألنَّه ابُن البشر ُسْلطاناً فال تتعجَّ

ستأتي ساعٌة يسمُع فيها جميُع َمْن في القبوِر صوَته، فيخرُج الذين َعِملوا الّصاِلحاِت إلى قيامِة الحياة، والذين َعِملوا السَّيِّئاِت إلى قيامِة

فكما أسمُع أحُكُم، . ال أقِدُر أنا أْن أعَمَل من نفسي شيئا .الدَّْينوَنةألّني ال أطُلُب مشيئتي بل مشيئَة اآلِب الذي . دلٌ وُحْكمي عا

Priest: Let us be attentive!

The Lord said to the multitude of the Jews who came

to him: “Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my

word and believes him who sent me has eternal life,

and does not come under judgment, but has passed

from death to life. "Very truly, I tell you, the hour is

coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the

voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.

For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has

granted the Son also to have life in himself; and he

has given him authority to execute judgment,

because he is the Son of Man. Do not be astonished at

this; for the hour is coming when all who are in their

graves will hear his voice and will come out those

who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and

those who have done evil, to the resurrection of

condemnation. "I can do nothing on my own. As I

hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek

to do not my own will but the will of him who sent

me.

Priest: O Christ our God, who shone upon the world from the

Virgin, and through her made us to be children of

light: have mercy on us.

First Ode

Choir: Holy Martyrs, intercede for us.

Priest: In their heavenly mansions the noble martyrs beseech

You without cease, O Christ, Enable the faithful one

whom You have taken away from this earth to

participate in your eternal blessings.

Choir: Within your peace give rest, O Lord, to the soul of

your servant.

Priest: O Saviour, after You had made all things in perfection,

You fashioned me a man and put me in the world a

being made of grandeur and weakness. Wherefore,

give rest to the soul of your servant.

Priest: O Saviour, You created me at the beginning to be a

citizen of paradise and a tiller of the earth. But when

I transgressed your commandment You expelled me.

The Epistle


Reader: Blessed is the way in which you shall walk today, for

a place of rest is prepared for you.

Stikhon: To You, O Lord, I call: O my God, be not deaf to me.

Priest: Wisdom!

Reader: A reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the

Thessalonians (4/13-17).


Reader: Brethren, we do not want you to be uninformed

about those who have died, so that you may not

grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we

believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so,

through Jesus, God will bring with him those who

have died. For this we declare to you by the word of

the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the

coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those

who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry of

command, with the archangel's call and with the

sound of God's trumpet, will descend from heaven,

and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who

are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds

together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so

we will be with the Lord forever.

Celebrant: Indeed all is Vanity! Life is like a shadow and a

dream, and every earth-born creature disturbs itself

in vain, as the Scripture says, for even if we were to

gain the whole world, we still would lie down in the

grave where kings and beggars dwell together.

Therefore, O Christ God, give rest to your departed

servant, for You are the Lover of Mankind.


Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Priest: All-holy Mother of god, for the term of my life do not forsake me, and do not let me put my confidence in

human strength; but rather uphold me and have

mercy on me.

Choir: O Christ God, with the saints grant rest to the soul of

your servant, in a place where there is no pain, no

grief, no sighing, but everlasting life. Alleluia!

الويُل للذيَن يطُلبوَن أْن َيَرْوا يوَم الِل الرهيِب ألنَّه : ِلَنْسَمْع قوَل القدير :الكاهن .ظالٌم، وبالناِر سيخَتِبُر األشياَء كلَّها

.المجُد لآلِب واالبِن والروِح القدس :الخورس

ُد االبَن المولو :الكاهن َد، وُأسبُِّح أسجُد لآلِب الوالِد الذي ال مصدَر له، وُأمجِّ .الّروَح القدَس الُمَتِلِلىَء مع اآلِب واالبن

ُتْروي، الخليقة؟ هكذا شاَء الذي أنبَع الماَء من الصَّخرِة، جداوَل .كما ُكِتَب، الشَّعَب العطشان

Choir: Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice'

sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Priest: May Christ grant rest to you in the city of the living;

may He open to you the gates of paradise and make

you a citizen of his kingdom; and may He remit your

sins, O lover of Christ!

Choir: Blessed are you when men reproach you and persecute

you, and, speaking falsely, say all manner of evil

against you for my sake.

Priest: Let us go forth and look upon the graves; man is but

bare bores: here we learn what riches truly are, and

beauty, strength, and comeliness!

Choir: Rejoice and exalt, because your reward is great in

heaven.

Priest: Let us listen to the voice of the Almighty; "Woe to

those who wish to behold the fearful day of the Lord,

for it is a day of gloom, and all things shall be tried

by fire".

Priest: I adore the Father because He is eternal; I glorify the

son because He is begotten; and I praise the Holy

Spirit who is resplendent with the Father and the

Son.

Priest: O Virgin, how did you give forth from your breast,

this abundance of milk? How did you sustain the

Sustainer of creation, of whom it is written that He

made water gush from the rock, a stream to quench

the thirst of the people?

The Beatitudes

- Remember us, O Lord, when You come into Your kingdom!

- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of

heaven.

- Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

- Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.

- Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they

shall be satisfied.

- Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

Celebrant: O Christ who made the Thief to be a citizen of

paradise when upon the cross he cried out to You:

"Remember me”. Enable me, unworthy though I am,

to make a like repentance.

Choir: Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God.

Priest: O Lord of life and death, grant repose in the courts of

the saints to your servant whom You have taken

away from this uncertain life while he (she) was

crying: remember me when you come into your

kingdom.
