Latin American Cultural Festival: Special Exhibition and Film Screening

한국국제교류재단 문화센터에서는 ‘중남미 문화축전’의 일환으로 ≪경계없는 세대: 라틴아메리카의 현대미술≫ 특별전이

열립니다. 외교통상부와 한국국제교류재단이 공동주최하고 16개 주한중남미 대사관이 후원하는 본 전시는 7월 17일부터

8월 8일까지 한국국제교류재단 문화센터에서 개최됩니다. 같은 기간 중 영상실에서는 중남미의 사회, 문화, 역사를 조망

하는 영화가 매일 상영됩니다. (자세한 사항은 3, 4면 참조)

The Korea Foundation Cultural Center is holding the special exhibition, Borderless Generation: Contemporary Art of Latin America, from July 17 to August 8 as part of the “Latin American Cultural Festival.” The exhibition is co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Korea Foundation in collaboration with Latin American and Caribbean embassies in Korea. During the exhibition period, Latin American fi lms with social, cultural, and historical themes will be screened daily. (See page 3–4 for further details.)

한국국제교류재단 문화센터에서는 7월 17일부터 8월 8일까지

≪경계없는 세대: 라틴아메리카의 현대미술≫ 특별전을 개최합

니다. ‘중남미 문화축전’의 일환으로 열리는 이번 전시는 16개국

의 27명 작가가 참여하는 대형 기획전으로서, 다양한 매체와 폭

넓은 세대의 작가들의 작품을 통해 오늘날 중남미 미술의 현주

소를 가늠할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것입니다.

전시 기간 중에는 매주 수요일 오후 3시와 토요일 오후 3시에 전

시 설명회가 있을 예정이며, 7월 17일 금요일 오후 4시에는 이번

전시를 기획한 윤재갑 객원 큐레이터의 특강이 열립니다. 특강 참

석을 원하시는 분은 shpark@kf.or.kr로 신청해 주시기 바랍니다.

전시 관람시간은 월요일~금요일 오전 10시에서 오후 9시까

지이며(토요일은 저녁 6시까지), 일요일과 공휴일은 휴관입

The Korea Foundation Cultural Center is holding Borderless Generation: Contemporary Art of Latin America from July 17 through August 8. Held as part of the "Latin American Cultural Festival," the exhibition will feature 27 artists from 16 countries and their artworks. It will be the occasion to explore the diversity of the Latin American contemporary arts. Gallery guide is scheduled to be held every Wednesday and Saturday at 15:00 during the exhibition period, and a special lecture will be given by the invited curator, Yoon Chea-gab, on July 17, Friday at 16:00. 온 정기문화강좌 <동유럽 이야기>가 음악강좌 3회를

남겨 두고 있습니다.

8강부터는 쇼팽으로 대표되는 폴란드의 음악가 (7. 2),

헝가리의 음악가들 – 리스트와 코다이 (7. 9), 보헤미

안의 예술 – 체코 음악가들 (7. 16)의 주제로 이어 집

니다. 특히, 7월 9일에는 강의와 함께 현악 사중주 콰

르텟 엑스가 연주하는 동유럽 음악가의 음악을 직접

감상할 수 있는 렉처 콘서트가 열릴 예정입니다.

Since the first lecture on May 7, the KFCC’s Regular Cultural Lecture Series II “Eastern Europe” has received an enthusiastic response from the audiences. There remain three more lectures, and they will cover the music of Eastern Europe.With music as the main theme of the remaining three lectures, Polish musicians represented by Chopin will be featured in the eighth lecture on July 2; followed by the Hungarian musicians, Liszt and Kodaly, on July 9; and Bohemian art, represented by Czech musicians, on July 16. Of special note, the lecture on July 9 will be presented as a lecture concert, featuring live music by the Quartet X. The lecture concert will provide the audience with an opportunity to appreciate firsthand the music of Eastern European musicians.

A special fi lm festival will be presented as part of the 2009 Central and South

American Cultural Festival. The festival will feature fi lms of various periods and

genres from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries at the Cinema Room

of the KF Cultural Center. The festival is co-organized by the Korean Ministry of

Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Korea Foundation with support from Central

and South American embassies in Seoul. It will feature fi lms from each country

every day from July 17 to August 1 (except on July 28 and Sundays). One

representative fi lm from each country will be subtitled in Korean. The festival is

open to the public and admission is free.

2009 중남미 문화축전 일환으로 중남미 특별영화제가 개

최됩니다. 중남미 13개국에서 찾아온 여러 시대, 여러 장

르의 영화들을 문화센터 영상실에서 만나실 수 있습니다.

이번 영화제는 외교통상부와 한국국제교류재단이 공동주

최하며, 주한 중남미 각국 대사관들의 후원으로 마련되었

습니다. 7월 17일부터 8월 1일까지 28일을 제외한 매일 (일

요일은 휴관) 각 나라별로 영화가 상영됩니다. 각국의 대

표 영화 1편씩에 대해 한국어 자막이 제공되며, 누구나 오

셔서 무료로 관람하실 수 있습니다.

The U.S. Embassy in Seoul will present two

classic Hollywood movies. The screening of

each film will be followed by a lecture and

discussion on the film. Light refreshments

will be provided. The fi lms to be screened are

“Casablanca” on July 28, and “Some Like it

Hot” on August 4. Those who wish to attend

are advised to make a reservation via e-mail

(kfcenter@kf.or.kr) by July 15.

한국문화교실 “한강으로의 자전거 여행” Korean Culture Class “Riding a bike along the Han River”

A bike tour along the Han River was arranged on May 23 as part of the Korean Culture Class. It rained heavily until the day before the excursion, but fortunately, the weather gradually cleared on the morning of the bike tour. Not only the organizing team members, but also foreign participants in the culture class were anxious about the weather, but their prayers for good weather were answered. When all the

par ticipants gathered, they were divided into six groups, had large bib numbers placed on their backs, and they then started to ride beginning with Group one. As the participants kept pace with others in the front, soon the wide waters of the Han River came into sight. The bike tour route was set to pass the Olympic Bridge, cross the Jamsil Bridge, and then go along the riverside on the other side for the return trip. When the participants rode along

the other side of the Han River and passed the Olympic Bridge, they stopped for a while to take a rest and posed for photos. Each group took some photos to express a certain theme, and presented the best one. The participants played simple games and had a good time before wrapping up the culture class. A new participant in the Korean Culture Class, Mr. Dashibalov Erdem, said, “I rode a bicycle for the fi rst time since my childhood, so it was not easy. But, I felt really great having a chance to ride a bike alongside the Han River.”

지난 5월 23일에 한국문화교실에서 진행한 ‘한강으로의 자

전거 여행’ 행사가 있었습니다. 바로 전날까지 비가 많이 내

려서 걱정스러웠던 하늘은 다행히도 당일 오전부터 점차 화

창한 날씨를 되찾기 시작했습니다. 행사를 준비하는 팀원들

은 물론 행사에 참여하는 외국인들도 이 날의 날씨를 많이

걱정했는데 아마 하늘이 우리의 바람을 들어주었던 모양

입니다. 참가자가 모두 도착하자 6개

조로 나누어 커다란 등 번호를 붙이

고 1조부터 출발하기 시작했습니다.

가한 에르뎀 씨는 “어린 시절 이후 오랜만에 자전거를 탔더

니 이거 쉽지 않네요. 그래도 한강을 따라 자전거를 타니 기

분도 상쾌하고 정말 좋습니다.”라며 소감을 전해주었습니다.

활동후기 한국어교실 고급반 보조교사 윤가영 「나의 활력소, 한국어교실」 KFVN Activities Korean Language Class, a Source of My Energy ― Yun Kayoung, Assistant Teacher, Advanced Class, Korean Language Class

Since I joined the Korean Language Class Team, I have been working as an assistant teacher for the Advanced Class. Advanced Class students speak Korean very well. Those who have majored in Korean, or have lived in Korea

for a long time, often command a higher level of Korean than I do! Topics covered in the Advanced Class include various social and cultural issues. It is very interesting to listen to different thoughts of people who have lived and used different languages in different cultures. After listening to the ideas of the students, I can think about an issue from various perspectives. The Advanced Class widens the narrow perspective of a student of engineering who has thought the sole and only answer to the question of 1+1 is 2. The Korean Language class is a source of inspiration in my life. The KFVN activities once a week

refresh my brain, often fi lled with complicated formulas and engineering terms. I have been active as a volunteer for more than a year, and still look forward to every Wednesday night. I sometimes wonder what kinds of friends and foreign worlds I will encounter in the future.

저는 한국어교실의 식구가 된 이후 계속 고급반에서 보조교

사로 활동하고 있습니다. 고급반 학생들은 한국말을 아주 잘

합니다. 한국어를 전공하는 학생들이나 오랜 시간 한국에서

산 학생들은 저보다 수준 높은 우리말을 구사하

기도 합니다. 고급반에서는 다양한 사회•문화

이슈를 수업 주제로 다룹니다. 서로 다른 문화권

에서 서로 다른 언어를 사용하며 살아 온 사람들

의 각기 다른 생각을 듣는 것은 매우 흥미로운

일입니다. 학생들의 의견을 듣고 있으면 하나의

문제에 대해 여러 측면으로 생각해보게 됩니다.

고급반 수업은 1+1의 답이 2 이외에 어떤 것도 될

수 없다고 믿었던 공대생의 좁은 시야를 세계 수

준의 크기로 넓혀주고 있습니다. 저에게 있어 한

국어교실은 인생의 활력소입니다. 일주일에 한

번 하는 봉사망 활동은 복잡한 수식과 어려운 공

학 용어들로 꽉 막힌 저의 뇌를 시원하게 뚫어주는 환기구

역할을 합니다. 1년 넘게 활동했지만 여전히 매주 수요일 저

녁이 기다려집니다. 앞으로 어떤 친구들과 어떤 세계를 만나

게 될 지 기대됩니다.

(Team Member Yang Sungbo) - Fun and Consideration Are the Driving Force to Organize Cultural Events

We planned a bike riding event for the Culture Class to have a chance to feel the warm sunshine of May and cool breezes from the river. We thought it would be meaningful to share our ordinary daily life with foreigners. From the start,

however, it was not as easy as we thought. The most important variable, as always in outdoor events, was the weather. As expected, it suddenly rained when we made our fi rst on-the-spot survey two weeks prior to the event. In addition, all we had as a guide at fi rst was a cycling path map published by Seoul Metropolitan Government when we started to organize the event. For on-the-spot inspections, we started to ride as guided by the map. After about three preparatory bike-rides, we fi nalized the route for the bike tour and thought about other accompanying

events for the tour, before completing our plans. Sometimes we come across unexpected things when we plan and organize cultural events. We, however, can thankfully overcome such diffi culties with other team members’ encouragement and thoughtfulness. Although most of the team members have their own jobs and probably want to take a good rest at home during the weekend, the proud feelings we have when we fi nish cultural events can hardly be explained in words. We in fact are all busy and pressed for time in this big city, but the feelings of ‘Fun!’ overwhelm all other things and are the driving force to organize the cultural events. We call the Korean Culture Class Team “peopleholics,” because the team members feel happy to be with all of the volunteers and the foreign participants. So we would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the people who take the time to share happiness with us.

5월의 따뜻한 햇살과 시원한 강바람을 느끼고자 자전거

타기 행사를 기획했습니다. 우리의 평범한 일상을 외국인

들과 함께하는 것도 깊은 의미를 지닐 것이라 생각했습니

다. 하지만 시작은 생각보다 쉽지 않았습니다.

야외 행사가 늘 그렇듯이 날씨가 가장 중요한

변수로 작용하기 때문입니다. 아니나 다를까

행사를 위해 2주 전에 진행된 1차 답사 때 갑

자기 비가 내렸습니다. 또한 행사를 준비하는

초기에 우리에게 주어진 것은 서울시의 자전

거 지도 하나뿐이었습니다. 우선 우리는 지

도를 따라 자전거를 타고 답사를 시작했습니

다. 3번 정도의 답사 끝에 자전거 노선을 정

하고, 행사 중간 중간 진행될 이벤트를 고민

하면서 자전거 타기 행사 준비를 마쳤습니다. 문화 행사를

기획하고 준비하다 보면 때로는 예상치 못한 일들을 대면

하게 됩니다. 하지만 그때마다 팀원 간의 격려와 배려로 어

려움을 이겨냅니다. 또 팀원 대부분이 직장인이어서 주말에

집에서 푹 쉬고 싶기도 하지만 문화행사를 마치고 났을 때

의 뿌듯함은 말로 설명할 수가 없습니다. 바쁘고 시간에 쫓

기는 것이 사실이지만 ‘즐겁다!’라는 마음이 제일 크기 때문

에 문화행사를 힘차게 준비할 수 있는 원동력이 됩니다. 우

리는 문화교실팀을 ‘Peopleholic’이라고 부릅니다. 문화교실

팀은 봉사자, 외국인 참가자 모든 사람들과 함께할 때 행복

하기 때문입니다. 그래서 항상 우리와 행복을 같이하는 모

든 이들에게 이 지면을 통해 감사함을 표합니다.

지난 5월 22일부터 9일간 서울시내 주요 공연

장에서, 한국국제교류재단 주최로 2009 서울

국제음악제가 개최되었습니다. 같은 기간 동안,

KF문화센터 전시실에서는 서울국제음악제 특

별전 ‘스트라빈스키에서 진은숙까지 – 최정호

교수의 세계 공연예술 현장기행’이 동시에 열려

음악제의 의미를 더하였습니다.

9일간 계속된 이번 축제에서 음악을 사

랑하는 관객, 음악 평론가와 매체 또한 매

공연마다 세계적인 거장과 세계무대에서

주목 받기 시작한 국내외 젊은 연주자들이

펼치는 음악의 향연을 만끽하였습니다. 특

히, 한국-폴란드 수교 20주년 기념 공연으

로 마련된 5월 30일 피날레에서는 현시대의

가장 훌륭한 작곡가로 추대되고 있

는 마에스트로 펜데레츠키가 직접

지휘한 교향곡 8번이 국내 초연되

어 감동 속에 대단원의 막을 내렸
