한국국제교류재단은 새해를 여는 첫 번째 전시로 ≪이탈리

아 스타일전 - 가구, 조명, 은기≫를 야심차게 준비하였습

니다. 이번 전시에서는 우리의 지루한 일상에 활력을 불어

넣는 “Made in Italy” 디자인 작품 180여 점이 소개됩니다.

가구와 조명기기, 은기 등 실내 장식용 작품들로 구성된 본

전시는 베스트셀러로 자리매김한 작품들을 포함하여 재치있

고 다채로우며 창의적인 작품들을 선보입니다.

The Korea Foundation is proudly presenting the special exhibition, “Italian Style - Dressing Home ,” as its first

exhibition of the New Year. The exhibition features more than 180 Italian-made design products enriching our daily

lives. The humorous, colorful and creative exhibits of furniture, lamps and silverware—some of which are still bestsellers

in today’s market—were carefully selected for your viewing pleasure. (See p. 4 for more details)

Italian Style – Dressing Home

The year 2010 marks the fi fth year of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center

(KFCC). As such, we would like to express a special and sincere thanks to all

members of the KFCC who have participated in our programs and supported

us, as well as those who, although not members, have always shown interest

in and encouraged us.

As always, we at the Center have put our heads together to work out

substantial and constructive programs for this year. Kicking off with Italian Style - Dressing Home will be host to a total of 15 exhibitions on various

themes—including Indonesia’s cultural heritage of batiks, the contemporary

art of Zimbabwe, and Arab culture. Countries to be featured in 2010 for the

fi rst time at the KFCC include Israel, Portugal, Indonesia and Zimbabwe.

The KFCC will offer for foreigners lectures on Korean culture, as well as its

regular cultural lecture series on world cultural heritage and cinema music.

Hosts of these series include archaeologists, art historians and regional

experts. With the addition of a new class on Wednesdays, a total of 12 Korean

language classes for foreigners will be offered by the Korea Foundation

Volunteer Network.

A special concert in March will feature chamber music by young Irish and

Korean musicians, while June will feature for foreign residents in Korea

traditional Korean music in fusion style. A gallery concert to commemorate

the opening of the KFCC in September is another new and unusual concert.

In addition to regular fi lm screenings, the KFCC will begin showcasing special

musical films in connection with its regular cultural lecture series at the

Cinema Room. Moreover, we are working on a program to show the best fi lms

as selected from among the fi lms presented in previous years’ screenings by

members of the KFCC. We look forward to your participation and cooperation.

On the occasion of its fi fth year of operation, the KFCC plans to reexamine its

facilities and programs to better fulfi ll its role to present world cultures more

faithfully and offer you better programs and service. We will be seeking your

opinions and advice in this regard in due course. We would appreciate it if you

would regard this as part of the KFCC’s development process and actively

participate in such endeavors.

Finally, we wish you and your family good health, happiness and success in

the Year of the Tiger.

2010년 한국국제교류재단 문화센터는 개관 5주년을 맞습니

다. 그 동안 문화센터 프로그램에 참여해주시고 힘을 주신

회원님과 늘 관심으로 지켜봐 주시고 격려해주시는 여러분

께 진심으로 감사 드립니다.

저희 문화센터에서는 올해도 알차고 유익한 프로그램을 마

련해 드리고자 열심히 고민하고 준비했습니다. 1월 중순 개

막하는 특별기획전 <이탈리아 스타일 - 가구, 조명, 은기>를

시작으로 인도네시아의 전통문화유산인 바틱전, 짐바브웨의

현대미술, 아랍문화축전 등 총 15건의 전시가 열립니다. 특히

2010년에는 인도네시아와 짐바브웨, 이스라엘, 포르투갈 외

여러 국가들의 전시를 처음으로 선보여 드리게 될 것입니다.

고고학자, 미술사가, 지역전문가가 들려주는 ‘세계문화유산’

과 ‘영화음악 100배 즐기기’ 등의 정기문화강좌와 함께 외국

인을 위한 한국문화강좌도 준비하였습니다. 자원봉사망이

운영하는 외국인을 위한 한국어교실은 수요일 오후 한 개 반

이 증설되어 모두 12개 반이 운영됩니다.

3월의 특별음악회에서는 아일랜드와 우리나라 젊은이들의

실내악협연이, 6월에는 주한 외국인들을 위한 퓨전국악음악

회가 개최됩니다. 9월 문화센터의 개관기념 갤러리콘서트

는 참신하고 색다른 음악회로 다시 여러분을 초대할 것입니

다. 영상실에서는 작년에 이어 올해도 정기영화상영 외에 정

기강좌와 연계한 영화상영(영화음악으로 유명해진 영화시리

즈) 등 색다른 영화들이 상영됩니다. 특히 과거 상영했던 영

화 중에 회원 여러분이 직접 선정한 최고의 영화를 상영하는

‘최고의 영화 시리즈’도 기획하고 있습니다. 많은 참여와 협

조를 부탁 드립니다.

특히 개관 5주년을 맞는 시점에서 문화센터가 세계문화사랑방

으로서의 역할을 보다 충실히 하고 회원 여러분께 보다 나은 프

로그램과 서비스를 제공하기 위한 시설 및 사업 진단을 계획하

고 있습니다. 여러분의 소중한 의견과 충고를 기다리겠습니다.

발전의 과정으로 생각해주시고 적극 동참해주시기 바랍니다. 경

인년인 올해 문화센터 회원 여러분과 각 가정에 건강과 행복, 성

세계 각국의 비보이들의 꿈과 열정을 담은 다큐멘터리 ‘플래닛

비보이’를 특별상영합니다. 서로 다른 국적, 인종, 언어에도 불

구하고 힙합이라는 하나의 통로를 통해 교감하는 젊은이들의

열정을 느껴보세요. <플래닛 비보이>는 1월 9일부터 30일까지

매주 토요일 오후 3시에 문화센터 영상실에서 상영합니다.

“Planet B-Boy,” a documentary fi lm featuring the dreams and passion of B-boys from around the world, will be presented at a special screening event at the KFCC. Feel the passion of the youth who share their feelings with each other through hip hop despite their differences in nationality, race and language. “Planet B-Boy” will be shown at the Cinema Room of the KFCC at 3 p.m. every Saturday from January 9 to 30, 2010.

Italian Style - Dressing Home

Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Prada, Gucci, Armani, Ferrari, Kartell, Alessi...What do they have in common? They are all Italian! Even during the Roman Empire from before the time of Christ, Italy has been the center of arts and culture. Even now, “Made in Italy” is a synonym for high quality and style. This is still evident in the furniture, tableware and household accessories like wine openers and place mats all included in

our daily living space today.Italian Style - Dressing Home will be showcasing various indoor-furnishing design work, including furniture, lighting equipment and silverware designed by more than 70 world-famous designers of the 20th century, notably Alessanro Mendini, Achile Castiglioni and Phillip Stark. Co-hosted by the Sartirana Art Foundation in Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul, the Italian Embassy and the Korea Foundation, the exhibition will display the legacy of 20th century design.

모나리자, 최후의 만찬, 프라다, 구찌, 아르마니,

페라리, 카르텔, 알레시… 이들의 공통점은? 이들

은 모두 이탈리아에서 탄생한 것입니다. 이탈리아

는 기원전 로마제국 시대부터 문화와 예술의 중심

지였고, 지금까지도 “Made in Italy"는 곧 최고의 품

질과 스타일을 뜻합니다. 가구와 그릇은 물론 와인

따개, 냄비받침 등 작은 소품에까지 이르는 생활용

품도 예외는 아닙니다.

이번 <이탈리아 스타일전 - 가구, 조명, 은기>에서는

이와 같이 실내 공간에 널리 쓰이는 작품들을 중심으

로 알레산드로 멘디니, 아킬레 카스틸리오니, 필립 스탁 등 20세기를 대표하

는 디자이너 70여 명이 디자인한 가구와 조명기구, 주방용품 등 다양한 작품

180여 점을 선보일 예정입니다.

The day shy university freshman Ha-jeong moves in, she meets Su-wook on the street and unexpectedly develops feelings for him. After learning that Su-wook works at the used book shop across from her school, Ha-jeong begins to follow Su-wook around, dreaming up schemes to confess her feelings. She buys and sells used books in order to see him. When she finds out that he travels around on a bicycle, she begins learning for the first time how to ride one herself. In the process, Ha-jeong’s everyday life gradually becomes bolder and livelier because of Su-wook, while Su-wook, too, begins to open his heart to the wacky and pure-hearted Ha-jeong. But soon they learn that each harbors hidden suffering that cannot be expressed to the other.

[한국] 달려라 자전거

수줍음 많은 대학 신입생 하정은 이사 오던 날, 우연히 길

에서 만난 수욱에게 묘한 호감을 느낀다. 수욱이 학교 앞

헌책방에서 일한다는 사실을 알게 된 하정은 그 곁을 맴

돌며 수욱에게 자기의 감정을 고백하기 위해 묘안을 짜

내기 시작한다. 수욱을 보기 위해 헌책을 팔기도 하고 사

기도 하고, 수욱이 자전거를 타고 다닌다는 것을 알고는

탈 줄 모르던 자전거를 배우기 시작하는 등 하정의 일상

은 수욱으로 인해 점점 용감하고 싱그러워진다. 수욱도

점차 엉뚱하고 순수한 하정에게 마음을 열기 시작하지만

두 사람 모두 서로에게 말 못할 아픔을 간직하고 있다는

사실을 알게 되는데…

“Young@Heart” is a special chorus band from Northampton, Massachusetts, that is made up of members aged 73 to 93. The group reinterprets songs of world-famous bands like Radiohead, Coldplay and the Rolling Stones in their own “Young@Heart” style to enthusiastic reception. Now, they launch themselves into seven weeks of rehearsing new songs for a special performance, but missed beats and forgotten lyrics cause greater anxiety as the performance date draws ever closer. “Young@Heart” tells us that age doesn’t matter if you’re able to enjoy things and offers new direction for not only the elderly of this age, but also the soon-to-grow-old.

[영국] 로큰롤 인생

‘마음은 청춘’이라는 뜻의 영앳하트(Young@Heart)는 미

국 노스햄튼 출신의 73세부터 93세까지 평균 81세인 실

버족으로 구성된 특별한 코러스밴드다. 라디오헤드, 콜드

플레이, 롤링스톤즈 등 세계적 밴드들의 곡을 영앳하트

스타일로 재탄생시켜 뜨거운 반응을 얻고 있는 이들이

특별 공연을 위해 7주간의 신곡 연습에 돌입한다. 박자를

놓치고 가사를 잊어버리는 등 멤버들의 실수가 이어지는

가운데, 공연 날짜는 점점 다가오는데… 즐길 수만 있다

면, 나이는 상관 없다고 말하는 영앳하트. 그들의 멋진 활

약상은 이 시대를 살아가는 노인들에게 그리고 곧 나이

를 먹게 될 젊은이들에게 새로운 방향을 제시한다.

한국어교실 레벨테스트 현장을 다녀오다 Korean Language Class Level Test in November 2009

A month ly leve l - tes t o f the Korean Language Class was held on Monday, November 30, 2009. But as early as 30 minutes before the test began, many nervous-looking applicants could be seen in the classroom. The number of applicants is usually around 35, although it sometimes reaches as many as 80. Under the guidance of Korean Language Class Team members, the applicants receive beginners or intermediate test papers and take the test for about 30 minutes. As the

size of each class from the Hangeul Class to the Advanced Class is 20, fi ve to ten new students, in addition to existing students who advance from the previous month’s class, are admitted for each class every month based on their test results. Ms. Lee Tse Hsin, who took a test this round, said, “I majored in Korean in Taiwan. A friend of mine introduced me to the Korean Language Class. I came to take a test today because, above all, the class is for free.” You could feel the burning passion of the foreign applicants, who were of both sexes and all ages, to learn Korean. After the test, a regular Korean Language Class Team meeting was held to discuss classroom teaching and preparation for a year-end gathering and introduce new team members and teachers.

문제를 풀게 됩니다. 그리고 한글반부

터 고급반까지 각 반마다 20명의 규모

로 진행되기 때문에 지난 달의 승급자

를 제외하고 시험성적에 따라 5~10명 정도를 새로 증원하

는 것입니다. 이 날 시험을 마친 이택흔 씨는 “대만에서 한

국어를 전공하고 있어요. 국제교류봉사망의 한국어교실은

친구의 소개로 알게 되었습니다. 무엇보다 한국어를 무료로

배울 수 있다고 해서 오늘 레벨테스트를 보러 온 거예요.”라

며 소감을 전해주었습니다. 남녀노소를 막론하고 한국어를

배우고자 하는 외국인 신청자들의 뜨거운 열정을 느낄 수

있는 현장이었습니다. 레벨테스트 이후 한국어교실 정례회

의에서는 송년의 밤 행사 준비 및 수업 관련 논의와 새로운

팀원과 교사들의 소개 및 인사가 있었습니다.

한국문화교실 세계문화유산 속으로, 수원화성과 융건릉Korean Culture Class Into World Heritage—Hwaseong Fortress and Yunggeonneung

A visit to Hwaseong Fortress and Yunggeonneung in Gyeonggi-do, both on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, was arranged for the Korean Culture Class on November 21, 2009. Participants first visited Yunggeonneung, the royal tomb of Joseon Dynasty’s King Jeongjo, his queen and his parents. All participants were eager to learn about the exterior and historical facts of the royal tombs. They then moved locations to Haenggung Palace in Hwaseong Fortress

and watched tightrope walking. Although the weather was cold, the participants enjoyed the event, exclaiming at the thrilling spectacle of tightrope walking and the vivid experience of being placed in a rice chest. This experience is derived from the execution of Crown Prince Sado, the father of King Jeongjo, who was locked up in a rice chest and starved to death at the order of his father King Yeongjo.

Participants also had the chance to try traditional Korean archery and contest with each other to fi nd out whose arrows would fl y farthest. Winding up the Korean Culture Class, participants walked from Yeonmudae to Hwahongmun along the fortress. In response to the tour, Mr. Victor Ortega from Panama said, “I was touched by the beautiful royal tombs and scenery, and really enjoyed trying traditional Korean archery.”

“I feel my heart warmed as if reading a biography.”

I am Shin Yun-hee, responsible for writing articles for a section in the KFVN Newsletter since the latter half of 2008. A year-and-a-half has

already passed since I became a reporter for the Newsletter as a member of the Planning and Public Relations Team. Due to the unfortunate circumstance of having to work on weekends, I have ended up conducting more interviews than articles on Korean Culture Classes. Although I am sorry to miss the chance to participate in Korean Culture Classes, interviewing is

also a precious opportunity and experience for me. I usually interview KFVN members and foreigners. After an interview, I often feel my heart warmed, as if I have just read a copy of biography. This is because I hear their frank stories about how they have lived, what they think now and what they want to be in the future. I also feel and learn their love for the KFVN and Korea, their passion for the work they are doing now, and their strong ambitions for the future.

There is a common thought that occurs to me after interviewing [KFVN volunteers]: “There are so many great people in the KFVN. I feel like I want to live like them, without losing the passion.” The year 2010 has begun. I hope you will keep the passion and leisureliness, although busy in everyday life. Happy New Year!

보다는 인터뷰 기사를 많이 썼습니다.

한국문화교실 행사를 함께 하지 못해

아쉽지만, 인터뷰 또한 저에게는 소중

한 기회이자 경험이라고 생각합니다.

인터뷰는 주로 봉사망 팀원들과 외국

인들을 대상으로 진행됩니다. 인터뷰

가 끝나면 저는 한권의 자서전을 읽은

것처럼 마음이 훈훈해질 때가 많습니

다. 그 사람이 어떻게 살아왔는지, 현

재 무슨 생각을 하고 나중에는 무엇이 되고 싶은지 등

을 있는 그대로 전달받기 때문입니다. 또한 인터뷰 하

나 하나에 봉사망과 한국에 대한 사랑 그리고 현재 하

고 있는 일에 대한 열정과 앞으로의 강한 포부를 느끼

고 배웁니다.

인터뷰를 마치면 공통적으로 드는 생각이 있습니다.

“봉사망에는 참 멋진 사람들이 많구나, 나도 저들처럼

열정을 잃지 않고 살아야겠다.” 2010년이 시작됐습니

다. 바쁜 일상 가운데에도 열정과 여유로움을 갖으시

기 바라며, 새해 복 많이 받으시기 바랍니다.
