한국국제교류재단 문화센터는 9월 1일, 2일 이틀에 걸쳐 “갤러리콘서트”를 개

최합니다. 올해로 3회째를 맞는 문화센터 개관 4주년 기념 “갤러리콘서트”는

9월 1일(화)에는 한국인 지휘자 임재식이 이끄는 스페인 밀레니엄합창단의

공연이 9월 2일(수)에는 재즈 퀸텟 프렐류드의 재즈, 그리고 프랑스 화가 제

라르 에코노모스의 페인팅 퍼포먼스가 함께 마련되어 전시실에서 음악과 미

술을 동시에 감상할 수 있는 특별한 기회가 될 것입니다.

The Korea Foundation Cultural Center will host a gallery concert on September 1 and 2. This third Gallery Concert, which marks the fourth anniversary of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center, will feature “Grupo Vocal Millennium,” a Spanish choir led by a Korean conductor, Lim Jae-sik, on Tuesday, September 1; jazz quintet Prelude and a painting performance by French painter Gérard Economos on Wednesday, September 2. The concert will be a special occasion to enjoy music and art together in the setting of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center galleries.

Korea - Latin America Artists Exhibition will be held at

the Korea Foundation Cultural Center from September

9 through September 17, 2009. The annual event is a

special exhibition by the Hanwool Artists Group, which is

composed of female alumni of the College of Fine Arts

at Seoul National University, with artwork by Latin artists

added to the exhibition this year. About 70 artists—60 from

Korea and 17 from six Latin American countries such as

Chile, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru

and Venezuela—will showcase 100 art pieces, which

are to include Oriental and Western paintings,

sculptures, ceramics and textiles.

보디아, 태국 등 아시아 8개국에서 국내외 사진작가 20여 명이

촬영한 사진 300여 점을 선보입니다. 이번 전시에는 사진전과

아울러 다큐멘터리 영상 상영, 아시아 교실 체험전, 아시아 국

가의 날, 작가와의 대화 등 다채로운 부대행사도 마련됩니다.

개막식은 9월 23일 5시이며 참석을 원하시는 분은 sypark@

Discovering Asia’s Grace in Life through the Classroom

will be held at the Korea Foundation Cultural Center

galleries from September 23 through October 16.

The exhibition is a part of the “Development of Materials

for Democracy, Human Rights and Peace in Asia”

project, co-organized by the UNESCO Asia·Pacific

Centre of Education for International Understanding

(APCEIU) and the Office for the Hub City of Asian

Culture under the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports

and Tourism. Featuring about 300 photos taken by about 20 photographers

from South Korea and other eight Asian countries including Brunei, Cambo–

dia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, the exhibition showcases the

elegance of Asia discovered on the scene. The exhibition will be accompanied

by various events, including documentary screenings, a hands–on exhibition of

Asian classrooms, national days in Asia, and meetings with the artists.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition is scheduled to be held at 5 p.m. on

September 23. Those who wish to attend the ceremony are asked to make a

reservation by September 21 via email (sypark@unescoapceiu.org).

아프리카 이야기 “Africa”

9월 17일부터 11월 26일까지 매주 목요일 저녁 7시(10

월 1일 휴강)에는 2009년도 문화센터 정기문화강좌시

리즈의 세 번째인 ‘아프리카 이야기’ 강좌가 진행됩니

다. 동남아시아 이야기, 동유럽 이야기에 이어 올해의

마지막 문화강좌인 ‘아프리카 이야기’를 통해 뜨겁고

광활한 대륙, 아프리카에 대해 많은 이야기를 듣고, 나

눌 수 있는 기회가 될 것입니다. 이번 강좌를 통해 최

근 신흥시장으로 세계의 주목을 받고 있는 아프리카

의 중요성에 대한 이해를 도모하고, 아프리카의 위대

한 문명, 문학, 영화, 미술, 신앙, 축제 등 그 동안 알지

못했던 아프리카에 대한 흥미로운 사실들을 알아나갈

수 있을 것입니다.

The Korea Foundation Cultural Center will present its third "Regular Cultural Lecture Series 2009” with the theme of “Africa” at 7 p.m. every Thursday from September 17 to November 26 (excluding October 1). Following the “Southeast Asia” and “Eastern Europe” series, the last of this year’s Regular Cultural Lecture Series will serve as an occasion to hear about and share stories about the hot and vast continent that is Africa. The lectures on Africa will promote understanding about the importance of Africa, which has recently attracted international attention as a new market. They will provide interesting facts about Africa, ranging from its great civilization base to its literature, cinema, art, religions and festivals that have remained mostly unknown up to this point. Reservation requests for the Africa series will be received starting from September 3 on the Freeboard of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center homepage. The movie is based on the true story of João Guilherme Estrella (a.k.a. “Johnny”), a young middle–class bon vivant who in the early 1990s becomes a drug dealer in Rio de Janeiro. However, he spends all the money he earns on his own drug addiction, parties with clients and friends, and expensive vacations.

This is the unpredictable story of Yeong–jae, a rookie director who claims himself an expert in love and filmmaking, and what happens when he develops aphasia from stress related to his love life and work. His girlfriend Eun–ha leaves him, as wordlessly as she dealt with his constant talking while with him, and he turns to work only to be faced with splendid casting and an enormous investment plan for an unfinished script. His friend Hyeok–gwon, whose work as a ventriloquist puts him at the height of verbal action, tries to offer Yeong-jae material and moral support.

워크숍 2009 국제교류자원봉사망 워크숍 Workshop KFVN Workshop 2009

The Korea Foundation Volunteer Network (KFVN) held the “KFVN Workshop 2009” at a pension in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do, on August 8 and 9. In its third annual workshop, the KFVN fi rst reported on its activities during the fi rst half of 2009, and then presented awards to the best volunteers and made a presentation on special surveys. After a barbeque party on the terrace of the pension, the volunteers enjoyed various recreational activities and aquatic team games, through which they solidified their team spirit. They also had a chance to exchange candid opinions with one another when the official program ended. As this year’s workshop was so pleasant, the participants felt quite sad to part ways when it ended. Winding down the workshop, they wrote on paper what they had not said earlier and had a group photo taken together. Mr. Roy Lee of the Planning and Public Relations Team in charge of

hosting the recreation program said, “It was a really meaningful time because we could meet members

of other teams we do not usually see.” He expressed his hope for

another gathering like this year’s workshop in the near future. The KFVN Workshop 2009 served as a prime occasion to reaffirm working harmony and great love for the KFVN among team members.

국제교류자원봉사망은 지난 8월 8일과 9일 이틀 동안 경기

도 양평에서 ‘2009 국제교류자원봉사망 워크숍’을 개최했습

니다. 올해로 세 번째 워크숍을 맞이한 국제교류자원봉사망

은 상반기 활동 보고를 시작으로 우수 자원봉사자 시상, 기

획 설문 발표를 진행했습니다. 팬션에 도착해서 야외 테라스

에서 바베큐로 식사를 한 후 봉사자들 간의 화합을 위해 조

별로 다양한 레크리에이션과 물놀이를 진행하며 즐겁고 유

쾌한 시간을 가졌습니다. 공식 일정이 끝난 밤에는 다 같

이 모여, 보다 진솔한 대화의 장도 열었습니다. 너무 즐거웠

기 때문에 그만큼 아쉬움도 컸던 2009 워크숍은 단체 촬영

과 함께 워크숍 기간 동안 미처 전달하지 못했던 마지막 한

마디를 롤링페이퍼에 담아 건네는 것으로 마무리 했습니다.

The KFVN has re–designed its homepage (http://volunteer.kf.or.kr). Based on a cool and neat design in blue and white–the colors of the KFVN logo—the homepage was reconstructed so that visitors who access the website can easily notice KFVN activities at a glance. Placed in the middle of the website

main page are activity photos in Flash format, while KFVN notices and activity calendars and volunteers blogging about their activities are on the left. Notices by the Planning and Public Relations Team, the Korean Language Class Team, and the Korean Culture Class Team are on the right, and the board featuring images of the KFVN Newsletter, as well as video and photo galleries, are at the bottom of the page. In addition, those who wish to become volunteers can use

the homepage to apply for activities. Mr. Shin Jaesup, Leader of the Planning and Public Relations Team in charge of revising the website, said, “The new homepage is re-designed in a way that it is more easily accessible to visitors than the previous one. I hope that not only the volunteers but also other people from various fi elds will share the news of KFVN through the homepage.”

에 비해 방문자들이 보다 쉽게 접근할 수 있도록 구성했다.”

Re–Designed KFVN Homepage in Service

The Korean Culture Class, “Pottery Making,” was held on the rainy afternoon of Saturday, July 18. Despite the bad weather and the distant location, a

greater number of people than expected participated and showed great interest in the event. The participants gathered at Indeogwon Station on Subway Line 4 and headed for the “Clay House” in Korean Culture Class team members’ cars. The Clay House is one of the shooting locations for the recently broadcasted television drama “Boys over Flowers,” and there were many photos showing the filming of the drama. Participants were seated in an outdoor

workshop under a white tent. After learning the basis of pottery making, they received clay to work with, working in groups of fi ve or six at worktables and began making their own unique pottery. Participants also had the opportunity to use an electric potter’s wheel. Those who made commendable pottery with the help of an expert could not hide their feelings of excitement. Mr. Shantal Starck, a first-time participant in the

Korean Culture Class, said, “I am really grateful to the Korean Culture Class for providing me with such a wonderful hands–on program today. I am a barista, and this is very meaningful to me because the pottery I made today will be used as a coffee cup.” Putting in the fi nal touches, the participants colored and decorated the pottery they had made with their own hands. These works were left at the Clay House to be fi red at a kiln and can be retrieved from the Korea Foundation Cultural Center in a month.

비가 살짝 내렸던 지난 7월 18일 토요일 오후, 한국문화교

실에서는 ‘손끝으로 만나는 도자기 체험’을 진행했습니다.

궂은 날씨와 긴 이동 거리에도 불구하고 생각보다 많은 참

가자가 모여 도자기 행사를 향

한 뜨거운 관심을 확인할 수 있

었습니다. 오후 1시에 4호선 인

덕원 역에 모인 뒤 팀원들의 차

량을 이용하여 삼삼오오 ‘클레이

하우스’로 출발하였습니다. ‘클레

이하우스’는 얼마 전 방영되었던

드라마 ‘꽃보다 남자’의 촬영지로

촬영 당시의 사진이 건물 곳곳에

붙어 있었습니다. 참가자들은 하

얀 천막으로 되어 있는 야외 작

업장에 자리를 잡고 도자기를 만

드는 방법을 배운 뒤 하나씩 점토

를 받아들었습니다. 대여섯 명씩 작업대에 옹기종기 모

여서 서로 머리를 맞대고 열중하는 중에 서서히 개성 넘

이 전기 물레 체험도 할 수 있었는데 전문가 선생님의

도움을 받아 그럴싸한 도자기를 만들어 본 참가자들의

얼굴에는 흥미롭다는 표정이 만연했습니다. 문화교실

행사에 처음 참여하신 샨탈 씨는 “오늘 이런 멋진 체험 프

로그램을 제공해줘서 정말 고맙다. 바리스타 일을 하는데,

오늘 만든 작품은 커피 컵으로 사용할 것이어서 더욱 의

미가 있다.”며 소감을 전해주었습니다. 참가자들이 각자의

손으로 오물조물 빚어낸 도자기는 채색을 하거나 장식을

해서 마무리를 한 뒤 가마에 굽기 위해 클레이하우스에 남

겨졌는데, 한 달 후 국제교류재단 문화센터에서 찾아갈 수

있다고 합니다.

- 한국어교실 참여를 원하시는 분은 사전에 레벨테스트를 받아

야만 수강할 수 있습니다.

- 한국어교실의 수업료는 무료이며, 다만 매달 수강시 교재를

반드시 준비해야 합니다.

- 각 반별로 수강생을 20명으로 제한합니다. (고급반은 제외)
