DUAL COMPOUNDNEK 606:2004 Offshore Cables
The objective of CCIwas to develop a cable which would perform in some
of the most inhospitable conditions imaginable.
Saline atmosphere, UV radiation, extremes of temperature, hydrocarbons,
oils, drilling fluids and muds while still maintaining the highest levels of
safety for personnel on board.
DUAL COMPOUNDCCIs sheathing materials are flame retardant, halogenfree and resistant to
drilling fluids and muds, in accordance to NEK 606:2004.
EASE OF INSTALLATIONCCIs Flexible Class 2 conductor concept (Patent N MI2003U 00349)
offers significant cost reduction on final installed cable, due to the
unique 4D bending radius, giving unequalled benefits to both Contractors
and final Clients alike, against the traditional rigid stranding.
FLAMEBAR
A complete flame barrier system utilizyng the natural high temperature
characteristics of glass combined with new technology to provide class-leading
Flame Retardantperformances, which is the standard all other naval/offshore
cables should be measured.
FIRE RESISTANCECCIs entire range of BFOU fire resistant Power, Control and Instrumentation
cables have been approved in accordance to IEC 60331-21 but submittedto the following test conditions:
1000 Deg C and 1000 V
These severe test conditions are the most stringent offered in the market and
supersede anything available for the naval Offshore Industry today.
This Type Approval is the most stringent and severe test requirement and
supersedes anything available for the Offshore Industry today.

HEPR INSULATIONin order to increase the insulating properties, and, as a result the currentcarrying capacity of 0,6/1 kV cables and above, CCI have developedHigh Modulus Ethylene Propylene Rubber (HEPR compound).This offers superior insulation constant (Ki) and significantly improvedageing performance at higher operating temperatures than 90 Deg Crequested by NEK 606:2004. These results can be seen below on the
ARRHENIUS GRAPH obtained by performing the Thermal EnduranceEvaluation according to IEC 60216, where Temperature Indexachievedhas been Ti = 114 Deg C(witnessed by ABS, DNV and LRS)
ON REQUEST:
COLD BEND AND IMPACT (CSA C22.2) 40 Deg C with thesearch of hydrocarbons in ever more inhospitable climates and increaseduse of FPSO vessels which can find themselves operating in extremes oftemperature from one field to another, all cables manufactured by CCI canbe installed and operate at temperatures down to 40 Deg Centigrade.

General informationsSome parameters affecting operational characteristics of the cables
mentioned in this catalog
CONDUCTOR RESISTANCEIt Is the most important parameter of the conductor sizing.
It is related to:
conductor resistivity [ / mm 2/m]
l conductor length [km]
A cross area [mm 2]
t temperature [C]
f frequency [Hz]
For low frequencies, conductor resistance is equal to DC condition.
R = l / A []
Temperature influence is calculated as:
Rt= R20 (234,5 + t) / 254,5 []
where:
Rt conductor resistance []
R20 conductor resistance at 20C []
t conductor temperature [C]
Conductor resistance increases with frequency.
INSULATION RESISTANCEIts a peculiar characteristic of the insulation material.
An higher value of insulation resistance means larger insulating capacity
of the insulation.
The "insulation resistance constant Ki" is calculated from the measured
insulation resistance by the following formula:
Ki = l R 10-11 / (log10D / d) [M km]
where:R measured insulation resistance []
l length if the cable [m]
D outer diameter of the insulation [mm]
d inner diameter of the insulation [mm]

SHORT CIRCUIT RATINGThe theoretical temperature that arises in XLPE conductors during a short
circuit using a basis of 250C.
The short circuit current for copper conductors is usually given for 1 sec.
For other durations the current may be calculated by the following formula:
lt=l [A]
t
It= short circuit for t sec. (Amp.)
I = short circuit for 1 sec. (Amp.)
T = short circuit duration (sec.)
INTERFERENCESAre defined as all the noises influencing the signal transmission.
They are produced internally the cable (i.e. cross talk) and externally (i.e.
power equipments or HF generators).
Both can be reduced by using suitable screenings.
CURRENT DETERMINATION according to power and voltageIn case of three-phase systems, determination of the current Intensity related
to power and voltage can be easily calculated by using:
I = 722 kW / V I = 578 kVA / V I = 531 HP / V
where
I = current intensity [A]
V= rated voltage [V]kW= power(cos = 0.8) [kW]
kVA= power [kVA]
HP = horse power [HP]
VOLTAGE DROP (up to 1 kV)
V = K I L / 1000 [V]
I rated current [A]
L electric line length [m]
K see following table

REACTANCEIn a cable operating in a.c. it is related mainly to axial distance between
conductors.
For 2 - 3 - 4 conductors the reactance per phase could be calculated as:
X = 2 f L I []
f frequency [Hz]
L Induction [H/m]l core length [m]
L Induction Is calculates as follows:
L = 0,2 [(ln 2a / d) + 0.25] 10-6 [H/m]
a distance between cores [mm]
d core diameter [mm]
IMPEDANCE
Z = (R2 + X2) []
Z impedance in ohm per phase
R resistant @ operating temperature per phase []
X reactance per phase []
MUTUAL CAPACITANCELow mutual capacitance causes small distorsion of the signal.
Digital signal transmissions are sensible to this features. Is affected by:
- type of conductor construction (increasing of conductor size means larger
capacitance)- insulation thickness (inversely proportional)
ATTENUATIONIt is defined as the decreasing, in signal amplitude, over the total length of
the cable. Its value increases with the frequency increasing.
Minimizing the attenuation means long distance transmission without
amplification and no distortions.

PULLING TENSION DURING INSTALLATION
The cable pulling tension during installation can be estimated of thefollowing formula:
p = 50 N x total cross section of conductors in the armoured cables
p = 25 N x total cross section of conductors in the unarmoured cables
Additional tension will be supplied from the braid and insulation and
sheathing compound
