What is meant by the term 'challenging behaviour';
Analysing and managing challenging behaviour;
The importance of Emotional Literacy in Promoting Positive Behaviour and addressing
challenging behaviour;
Connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and the role of schools in
developing pupil awareness, and understanding of, their own, and others' emotions.
An introduction to Restorative Practices;
Possible impact of Restorative Practices on behaviour in schools;
Evaluation of action research undertaken as part of the assessment.

Assessment will be through presentation of a portfolio and two assignments, each of
4,000 words, at the end of each module.

The course aims to present a broad consideration of the nature of social, emotional and
behavioural difficulties and positive approaches to behaviour management.
Participants will consider how to identify and meet the needs of pupils with Social,
Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). They will explore a range of
strategies to support the inclusion of such children and understand the role of the adult
in creating a positive learning environment for all pupils and staff.

On successful completion of three assignments the candidate will gain 3 units towards
the Diploma of Professional Development in Education (DPDE). In addition,
following a practical supervised teaching element, completed with the candidate's own
student, BDA Approved Teacher status will be awarded.

Teachers will be able to address the needs of pupils with dyslexic difficulties by:-
early recognition;
detailed assessment;
multi-sensory, cumulative support.
Course outline / Amlinelliad y cwrs :
To provide candidates with expertise to work with pupils with dyslexic difficulties and
to receive accreditation on successful completion of 3 assignments.
To develop an understanding of the theoretical background and assessment techniques
in current use. It focuses on enabling teachers to differentiate classroom resources and
select appropriate strategies to support pupils with dyslexic difficulties.
This is a 10 day course.

Class/subject teachers, support teachers, SENCOs, Headteacher and deputy heads.
This is an accredited course of 3 modules.
Participants must be teachers with at least 2 years experience and be prepared to

difficulties (dyslexia) and enable participants to support the learning of pupils with
dyslexia.

The nature of SpLD (dyslexia) and its implications on pupils' learning;
How to support pupils with SpLD (dyslexia) in the classroom;
How to develop activities through the use of multi-sensory approaches.

The course is accredited by OCN. There is an expectation that participants complete
the assignments.

By participating in discussions, paired and group work, teachers will be able to:
identify a range of speech and language difficulties;
make an assessment of a pupil's speech and language difficulties;
review the teaching/learning process in construction of IEPs;
use different materials and strategies to support a pupil with speech and language
difficulties;
use a range of specific assessment tools;
construct a speech and language profile;
develop and use materials for a named pupil.
On successful completion of 3 assignments candidates will gain a Graduate Certificate
of Professional Development in Education.
