The graduation requirements of Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High School will mirror those found in the State legislation and the Florida’s A++ plan, which provides two applicable options, the tradi-tional 24 credit hour diploma and the 18 hour college preparatory option and will be as follows:

The student must successfully complete 24 credits in order to graduate. The 24 credits must be earned as follows: 1) 16 core curriculum credits:

• 4 credits in English; • 4 credits in mathematics, one of which must be Algebra I, its equivalent, or a course higher

than Algebra I; • 3 credits in science, two of which must have a laboratory component; • 3 credits in social studies (1 credit in American history;1 credit in world history; 1/2 credit in

economics; 1/2 credit in American government • 1 credit in fine arts; and • 1 credit in physical education & health.

2) 4 credits in a major area of study; selected by the student as a part of their personalized education plan: • BDCHS offers 12 major areas of interest for students to choose from. They are as follows:

i. Advanced Academics ii. Business Technology iii. Journalism iv. Language (Chinese, Spanish, or Latin) v. Law Studies vi. Performing Arts vii. Physical Education viii. Science Technology ix. Visual Arts (Drawing & Painting or Graphic Design)

3) 4 credits in elective courses that can be used in three different ways; selected by the student as a part of their personalized education plan: • the student can use the 4 credits to earn a second major area of study; • the student can use 3 of the credits to earn a minor in an area of interest; or • the student can use the credits to take a variety of courses that interest them, take credit re-

covery courses, and/or take intensive reading courses. • Depending on the students Major area of study they may or may not need to use 2 of their

electives to satisfy 2 credits of Foreign Language. In addition to course and credit requirements, students must maintain an un-weighted grade point average of 2.0 and earn passing scores on the Grade 10 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and FCAT Writes.
