Problems addressed by the Project

The domestic demand of energy in Indonesia had been drastically increased since 1986 and reached double in 1997.

In order to stabilize the energy balance, Indonesian government set principal objectives in energy sector to minimize the domestic consumption of tradable fuels by substituting non-tradable alternatives such as surplus coal, geothermal energy, and natural gas.

In the above circumstance, Indonesian government decided to utilize the natural gas from comparatively small size and scattered in South Sumatera to Java Island. The Indonesian government has requested Japanese government to provide financial aid for Gas Transmission Pipeline Project to install gas pipeline from South Sumatera to West Java by applying JICA ODA loans.

Total length of gas pipe line is approximately 500 km from Sumatra to Jakarta across Selat Sunda having high ocean current speed.

OC Global as a member of the consultant has been engaged with Pt. Perusahaan Gas Negara to provide project management consulting (PMC) services. Since the Project contains various fields of services, the knowledge of PMC is one of the key for smooth implementation. Also, the knowledge and experience of various steps as ruled by the guidelines for procurement under JICA ODA Loan was important.
