Pull studs (retention knobs)

Seco offers a range of pull studs (retention knobs) to fit popular toolholders and Graflex taper holders that provide high quality with greater safety, traceability and availability. • Each pull stud shipped has re-order information contained on the shipping container. • Seco’s EDP# and the last 2 digits of the month and year manufactured and a serial number are laser marked on each pull stud for traceability. Surface finish of a minimum of 63 micro inches is required on the hardened surfaces of the pull stud to retard cracking.

Selecting the right pull studThere are a few key pieces of information that make it easy for Seco to identify the pull stud needed for a specific machine spindle. With what spindle taper will the pull stud be used? Look at the drawings on the following pages to find one that most closely matches the pull stud needed. Note the drawing style. Drive sockets

Pull Stud Drive Sockets are a perfect supplement to our pull studs. They are heavy-duty 1/2” drive sockets that are designed to fit the various retention knobs in use. Made of the finest chrome molly steel, our Pull Stud Drive Sockets are black oxide coated to inhibit rust and are laser marked with our EDP number, type, size of knob and the torque range required. They are packaged with labels. Sockets aid in the installation and removal of pull studs. By using a socket and a torque wrench the ideal tightness is achieved without rounding off the pull stud’s corners.

Pull stud safety

The only thing holding our cutting tools in the machine spindle is the pull stud. Pull studs are not intended to last forever. A program is available to help our customers use them safely. It teaches the importance of pull stud inspections and that they must be visually inspected for damage and checked for tightness every time the tool in the holder is put into service.• The last two digits of the month / year and the serial number (03/99 S/N 000356) are marked on the side of the pull stud. By adding these numbers to the pull stud, traceability is insured. For example: Record the year and serial number to an inspection log and specify the frequency, and the type of inspection to be preformed (visual, magnetic particle, or dimensional).• Extra labels are provided upon request.
